**Begin Story
Mithrandir looked over the side of the ship and saw an elf-babe cresting the waves of the calm ocean in a small wicker basket. He looked to the heavens and sent a quick prayer the the Valar, hoping they knew what they were doing. Moving swiftly, he fished the basket out of the water. He took the infant out of the basket, cradling her in his arms. She gave a little laugh and his heart melted. Again, she cooed up at him and reached out a tiny fist and entangled it in his beard. "Lalaith," he said. "That is your name..." he smiled to himself and turned the ship towards the coast. (A/N Lalaith means laughter in elvish)
**Many Years Later (Does anyone know exactly how fast elves age?)
Lalaith grasped her sides, rocking back and forth, giggling uncontrollably. "That *gasp* was soooo *gasp* funny! AHHHAHAH!" she choked out, before collapsing into another fit of giggles. "Really, Lalaith, it wasn't that humorous..." Gandalf replied, getting up and dusting himself off. He grabbed his hat and quickly jammed it back into place on his head. "Oh come off it Gandy...You were riding along merrily when all of a sudden BOOM! a branch whacks you in the head and you flip off your horse!" Just talking about this incident brought back her laughter. "Hmph.." was all he said before swiftly mounting again and riding off.
The elf maiden quickly caught up and asked, "Gandy...Where are we going?" Gandalf rolled his eyes and muttered under his breath, "Must you call me Gandy all the time?" a little bit louder he replied, "We are going to visit Aragorn." She smiled to herself, secretly proud that the old nickname annoyed him. "I've called you Gandy all my life...Why stop now?" she replied cheekily. In return, Mithrandir sighed and then kicked his mount into a gallop, leaving no time for more questions from Lalaith
**Aragorn's POV
Glancing at the horizon, he noticed two riders making their way towards him. Lazily, he stretched his lean muscles, before slowly climbing down from the tree. Once on the ground, he leaned against the trunk, silently waiting for the riders to arrive. One rider was Gandalf of that he was sure. The other was female...He assumed it was Lalaith but she looked much more mature than how he remembers the elleth. --But then again, it has been many years since I last saw her.--he thought to himself.
The riders stopped their horses a few yards away, dismounted and began to walk towards him. To Aragorn, Gandalf looked the same as he always had, so he took this time to study the female.
The first thing he noticed about this lady was that she was indeed an elf. Second, was that she was stunningly beautiful. Her ebony hair was so dark it seemed almost blue, and red-gold highlights shone in the setting sun. Her lips were plump and the color of rasberries. Her dark brows arched majestically giving her a regal look, yet the way she quirked them seemed to say that she found something amusing. She had a proud, straight nose and tan skin, which was rarely, if ever, seen in an elf. She was tall for a female but not for her people. (about 5"9-10) But the most amazing thing about her was her eyes. He could never mistake those eyes, for they belong to Lalaith and her alone. Framed by long, thick lashes her eyes were golden, gleaming in the light. He stared at her and as he did so, her eyes changed into a bright silver, then to a deep ocean/night sky blue before fading back into gold. --I had not known she would grow to be such a beauty.-- Shaking his head, he brought himself back to reality and addressed Gandalf.
**Back to Lalaith's POV
She had noticed Aragorn's staring and tried her hardest not to show her mirth. Gandalf and Aragorn soon began a hushed conversation. Tiring of straining to overhear them she let her thoughts wander.
*Flashback
Lalaith remembered much of her childhood. Gandalf had found her a human family to tend to her while he was away. Eventually the the last family member had died out and although she was very sad, she was old enough for Gandalf to let her travel with him. Knowing that this was dangerous he had taught her everything in his power and anything he knew someone could teach her. She learned how to fight with/without weapons, deffensive and offensive magic, survival skills, and many languages. Her weapons of choice were a three bladed dagger, the one in the middle being the longest (A/N like Electra has) and a bow. She also had a sword with a waved edge to it. Also, she met many people on her trip and was well known throughout the land with all races except humans and hobbits.
*End Flashback
Gandalf and Aragorn finished their talk and decided it was time to settle for the night. Lalaith sighed from annoyance of not being let in on their knowledge. --I will find out soon enough..patience is a virtue--she chided herself and helped to set up camp.
