Will he be my new Daddy?
Disclaimer: I’m afraid, it isn’t true! I know nothing about the people mentioned herein and I know even less about their personal lives and families...
Notes: Once again dedicated to my little sister who had me laughing tears when I finally allowed her to watch all three Rings movies (she’s 10) by asking funny questions. When Aragorn fell off the cliff in TTT she asked me if Legolas is going to jump after him (that much about the film being obviously slashy...) and when I assured her that Aragorn does survive she wanted to know if he comes back as “Aragorn, the white” like Gandalf did before. Then of course she thought that Elrond is Arwen’s husband and that she is cheating on him with Aragorn. Now, after several hours of questions like and me drooling about how gorgeous Eomer, Aragorn, ... are, guess what she asked me then. Yes. “But Gimli does survive, doesn’t he?”
Thanks for making me laugh, sweetie!!

1. Will he be my new Daddy?
Prologue (Dave’s POV):
Love hurts. I trips your heart into pieces, reduces you to a whimpering, shivering pile of nerves and pain. Yes, that’s how I feel now you are gone. Hours have become days, days weeks and weeks months and all this time I have been standing beside me, a shadow of the man I once was and pain is filling the void you left behind where once used to be my heart, so full of life and love.
But I can’t blame you for it. It is just that I thought our love would last forever. In my dreams I sometimes heard happy children’s laughter. We were old, you and I, sitting on the porch of our big house, watching our grandchildren play on the green grass of our garden with happy smiles enlightening our wrinkled faces. Time has proven that we are just not meant to live together throughout eternity.
Both of us have moved on and the love that had seemed to overflow our hearts in the early days of our relationship is now completely spent.
Sometimes late at night I wake up, reaching out automatically for the warm, naked body that used to lie beside me in the black darkness filling the room and I want to press your slim body against mine, breathe in deeply the scent of green apples clinging to your soft hair and know that everything’s alright.
But you aren’t here anymore.
It hurts to know that at soem point we just stopped loving each other the way we did, but the memory of our happy times together hurts even more, because I know that they’ll never come back. Somehow it is as if you’re gone and only your ghost has remained, a painful reminder of what we once shared.
I find myself walking past the house where you now live, I drive through the city to the restaurant we had our first date in. I sit at our table, ordering the same meal we had then, but I’m unable to eat it, because it seems to turn into ash in my mouth.
Don’t ask me why I do this, cause I don’t know myself why I keep the wounds from healing. Maybe it is, because I feel dead deep inside of me and only the pain reminds me that I am still alive.
Do you know that they still keep asking me about you? Hello, David! How’s your beautiful girlfriend? And the baby? Are they fine?
It is funny that you walked away from me, leaving me alone with the grey shreds of what was once our life. I don’t know if I ever asked you for something, but if you would now grant me a wish I would want to switch places with you, to make you feel at least a little bit of the pain I am experiencing every day.
Every night I am lying awake in my bed and my whole body is hurting. Did you know that I hate you? Because that what happens when you rip one’s heart in two and keep the bigger part of it for yourself.
Happiness has been replaced by pain. Love by hate. Complete and utter darknes...

4 years later....
It was one of those days, Dave decided when he got out of is car, groaning when he willed his aching legs to move and walk the short distance from the car to the house Dave was living in during his stay in New Zealand. He ahd been shooting fighting sequences all day. Dave grimaced. His muscles were aching and his body would be covered in bruises the next day. Dave sighed, thinking of spending the rest of the day lying on the sofa with a cold beer in his hand.
All the pain was forgotten when the door opened and Dave remembered the other reason why he had wanted to get home as quickly as possible.
“Daddy! Daddy! Daddy!”
Smiling Dave bent down to the little red haired creature that flew down the stairs into his arms and lifted her up, pressing her tightly against his broad chest.
“Hey, sunshine!” he laughed and kissed his daughter, his smile even broadening when the little girl grabbed fistfulls of his hair and mimicked her father’s gesture by planting a big, wet kiss on his nose.
“Love you, Daddy!”
Dave hugged his daughter even closer and then let her to the ground. Her little hand vanishing completely in his Dave walked up the way to the house, listening attentively to Eliza Jane telling him proudly about the preparations for her 5th birthday that would be the next day.
“Mommy and I, we have made chocolate cake! And I have blown up all the ballooons on my own, but you have to help me hang them up, cause I’M not tall enough!”
“O fcourse I’ll help you, sunshine.” Dave knelt down next to his daughter, bringing her to his eyelevel. “I’ve got a little surprise for you...” Dave grinned when Eliza’s eyes widened impossibly.
“Oh Daddy, Daddy! Please! What is it?”
“Uncle Karl and uncle Harry will come, too,” Dave replied, keeping the best part of the surprise a little longer to himself. “And they will bring Hunter with them.”
A happy smile spread on Eliza’s lips as she hugged her father, thrilled to hear that Karl’s son, her favourite playmate, would come to her party.
Dave’s own smile froze when the door opened again and Kate, Dave’s ex-girlfriend and Eliza’s mother stepped throught it, a dark-haired man following her. “Hello, Kate,” Dave said calmly and stood up to kiss her cheek softly. Dave shivered when he took in her unique scent, again remembering the pain of losing her. It was years nowsince they had been split up, but still Dave hesitated to entera new relationship. Sometimes when he was lying in his bed alone at night he thought he could still hear the sound of his heart breaking.
Quickly Dave stepped back and offered his hand to the dark-haired man next to Kate, forcing a smile on his lips. //You’re an actor, dammit! That shouldn’t be so difficult!!// He took in a deep shivering breath before he started to speak. “How are you, Stuart?” he adressed Kate’s new partner.
“Fine,” an overly arrogant smile formed on Stuart’s lips when he put his arms around Kate’s waist maybe overly enthusiastically and Dave remembered why he hated the man. “Kate and I are going to marry next month,” he continued and Dave closed his eyes, because he couldn’t stand the happy look that Kate and Stuart shared at the other man’s words. He only opened his eyes again to see Stuart snmile down at Eliza.
“And our dear Lizzie here is going to be flowergirl, right love?”
Dave flt like crying when Eliza let go of his hand and let herself be taken into Stuart’s arms who held her tightly against his chest. //So my girlfriend wasn’t enough? Have to take my daughter, too?//

“You aren’t serious, are you?” Karl asked Harry as he pushed his glasses up his nose, glaring sceptically at the T-shirt Harry was offering him.
Harry’s grin broadened impossibly as he knew the Don’t-fuck-with-me-look Karl gave him. “You know I am,” he replied mischievously. “You could at least take a look at it before you cast my present away,” he added, mock hurt.
Karl sighed deeply, placing the book he had been reading on the table next to him and accepted the neatly folded shirt to examine it. “But Harry! It’s pink!” Karl exclaimed, gesturing at the shirt that had rose stripes on it as well. He grimaced. “You really can’t expect me to wear it!”
Harry batted his eyelashes in what he thought was a seductive way. “But I could ask you politely to do it...” he breathed, kneeling down in the opened V of Karl’s legs and cupped Karl’s crotch with one of his big hands. “I might even be willing to reward you for it...”
Karl cocked one of his elegant eyebrows. “Doesn’t work, handsome. I won’t let you bribe me into that!” Tenderly he pushed Harry away and pulled the other man up to stand in front of him. “Why are you so keen on making me wear it anyway?”
With a grin on his face Harry picked up the still folded shirt Karl had placed on is knees and before the younger man could protest Harry was sitting on his lap, unfolding the shirt. “You’ll understand when you read the slogan on it!” he promised, holding the shirt in front of them with outstretched arms.
“He loves me, because I’m beautiful,” Karl read aloud, the smile on his lips evident in his voice. “So you think I’m beautiful?” he growled into Harry’s ear, his voice sending shivers dwon the other man’s back. Harry moved to stand up, but Karl was holding him closely in his arms, his clever fingers busy undoing the fly of Harry’s pants. “Tell me, handsome,” he breathed in a low voice, his hand closing around Harry’s quickly growing arousal. “Speak to me... I love listening to your voice...”
Harry took breath in deeply, his lips trying to form syllables that only came out as unintelligible sounds of pleasure. Karl’s lips were caressing the soft skin of Harry’s neck. “Karl...” Harry half groaned, half whispered, his lover’s name the only thought he could fully grasp when Karl continued working his rockhard length.
“Yes?” the other man asked, not really expecting an answerfrom teh moaning man lying undone in his lap and so he continued to speak. “I’m not only beautiful, but I can even undo you in mere seconds...” Karl grinned smugly. “Maybe you should add that on the T-shirt...”

“Daddy?”
Dave was roused from his sleep by a small voice.
“Daddy?”
“Yes, yes, I’m here...” Dave mumble dsleepily, carefully opening his eyes. His eylids seemed to weigh at least a ton. In the darkness of the room he could make out the shape of a small girl standing next to his bed and he moved a little to the side, leting her crawl under his warm blankets. “What’s wrong, love?” he asked, his hand combing through soft blond strands.
“Couldn’t sleep...” Eliza’s voice was muffled by Dave’s very own arms his daughter had snuggled into.
“And why’s that?” Dave stiffled a yawn. “You surely know that there aren’t any monsters under your bed you have to be afraid of... I scared them all awy with my big sword!”
Eliza laughed softly. “Don’t know...” she crawled deeper under the covers. “Can I sleep in your bed, Daddy?”
“Sure...” Dave answered, placing a soft kiss on his daughters’s golden curls. “Good night, love...”
Afetr a while when Dave was already half asleep again Eliza continued speaking. “Daddy?” she asked in a small voice. “Will Stuart be my new Daddy now?”
Dave nearly shot up from his lying position as his heart seemed to cramp with pain. “What makes you think so?” he croaked.
“Because Mommy and he are going to marry...” Eliza whispered sadly. “And daddies are living with mommies, but you are not.”
“Dave felt tears rise up in his eyes. “I will always be your daddy, love. Nothing will ever change that,” he tried to assure Eliza. “That your mum and I don’t live together anymore doesn’t change the fact that you are the most important thing in my life. Do you know that?”
“Yes,” Eliza replied in a slightly choked voice. “I miss you so much, Daddy!” She her face wet with tears in Dave’s chest.
“I miss you, too, sunshine,” Dave mumbled into his daughter’s hair, not holding back the tears anymore. “I miss you, too...”
