Afraid of the dark?
Dommie Darko
Disclaimer: Not true, not mine! I do not know the people featured herein! Some of the ideas are inspired though by the great movie “Donnie Darko”. If you like it you might like my fic, too. If you didn’t like it or haven’t seen it yet, please read this anyway, cause it is really only inspired by it! You don’t have to know “Donnie Darko” to understand this…
Notes: I could’ve called this “Dommie Darko”, but I didn’t… I just wanted to mention it sorta as an alternative title for this…
If you enjoyed reading this, please send me a short comment on this. My life just gets crappier and crappier at the moment and writing is the only thing keeping me sane… I could use a bit of positive feedback, you know… *hint, hint!*
Oh and see! Joe again tried to make a story-banner! I think it fits the story pretty well… I’m not too talented doing these things on the computer, there’s nothing better than a bit of charcoal- or pencil-drawing, but I’m still interested what you think of it… Please let me know if you liked the picture! The way Billy looks on it manages to freak me out whenever I look at it… *shudders*
You see, I feel like babbling crap and I won’t stop until somebody tells me to- Well, ok… I’ll just shut up and let you read…

Afraid of the dark?
“Wake up.”
Slowly Dom opened his eyes and obeying the command he sat up in his bed, almost hypnotically switching on the small light on his bedside table. A bolt of lightening illuminated the dark room and now Dom could see the strange hooded and cloaked creature standing in front of the window. “Who are you?” Dom asked quietly, cold shivers running down his back.
A cruel smile settled on the creature’s pale face. No, it was not even pale anymore, but white as death, Dom thought. As if all the color had been drained from its skin. “My name is Billy,” the creature answered in its eerie, emotionless voice, its unnaturally green eyes framed by orange and black color gleaming as if they were reflecting what little light there was in Dom’s bedroom.
Dom was shaking, but it wasn’t out of fear. For some strange reason he knew that Billy…the creature…didn’t want to hurt him. “What do you want from me?” Dom croaked, nervously blond strands of hair out of his face.
Billy cocked his head, no emotion showing on his face. “I want to be your friend,” he whispered, slowly starting to fade away in front of Dominic’s eyes.
“Wait!” Dom jumped out of his bed, running to where Billy had been standing just moments before. “Where have you gone?” he exclaimed, but the words remained unanswered, echoing in the now empty room.

“I made a new friend,” Dominic announced, nervously shifting on the small, uncomfortable couch he was sitting on. “He’s called Billy…”
Ian McKellan pushed his glasses further up his nose. “Very well, Mr Monaghan,” he mumbled. “Is this new friend imaginary or real?”
“Imaginary,” Dom answered promptly. “I think…”
“Yes?” McKellan put down his notebook. “You aren’t sure if he’s imaginary or not?”
“Well…” Dom hesitated to answer the question. “I saw him. He was standing in my room…in front of the window and he spoke to me…we talked! But…” Dom closed his eyes for a short moment and took in a shivering breath. “He…he vanished in front of my eyes. That…that isn’t possible, is it?”
McKellan sighed when he looked into Dominic’s eyes wide with fear. “Dominic,” he began. “I’m allowed to call you Dominic?” He continued to speak when Dom nodded. “From what you’ve told me I judge that your new friend, Billy, is imaginary.” McKellan stood up and slowly walked to his desk, taking a book out of one of the drawers. He handed it Dom. “I want you to take this.”
Curiously Dom opened the book, frowning when he saw that all the pages were empty.
McKellan smiled. “I want you to write about Billy’s visits into this diary,” he explained.” You bring it to our next meeting and then I’ll decide what we need to do about him…”
Dom nodded and carefully put the diary into his backpack. “Thank you, Mr McKellan,” he mumbled quietly and gave the older man his hand. “See you next Tuesday then…”

In the late afternoons Dom would start biting his nails until they were bleeding, something he hadn’t done since he was a young kid. He never knew when Billy would visit him for the next time. The strange man just appeared and disappeared at some point of the night, Dom being able to sense the other man’s presence lurking in some dark corner of the room.
“Hello, Dominic,” Billy greeted him as usually, his quiet voice easily filling the room.
“Hi,” Dom replied hastily. “Why are you here?”
“Why am I here?” Billy repeated as if thinking about the question. “That’s an interesting question, Dominic,” he chuckled, for the first time showing emotions. “What do you think? Why are we here?”
“That’s not what I meant,” Dom said firmly, starting to play with the ring on his thumb.
“But it was what you wanted to ask,” Billy hissed, bringing his hands to his face, the moonlight catching on his long black nails. “What is the sense of living if everybody dies alone in the end?”
The question lingered unanswered in the room.
Dom started shivering violently, burying his hands in the covers draped over his slim body. “Do we?” he croaked, trying to swallow the lump that was starting to form in his throat. “Do we?” Dom repeated, sounding even more desperate, not able to stand the sneer on Billy’s face. “Fucking answer me!” Dom finally yelled, but again Billy had just gone.
