I Believe this is Heaven to No One Else but Me

*Disclaimer: None of this happened while filming the Lordthe the Rings. Unfortunately Viggo and Orlando don't belong to me. It would be nice if they did, but they don't. Please review this story and try not to flame. Thanks.*

"Elsewhere"
~I love the time and in between
the calm inside me
in the space where I can breathe~

Viggo ran shaking hands through his tousled hair, unmindful that he was still dressed in his costume. John-Rhys Davies didn't seem to care much at all either as he rubbed the bridge of Gimli's prosthetic nose with his forefinger and his thumb. Viggo couldn't find himself to sit still, and despite Ian's persistent pressure at his shoulder to keep him in the uncomfortable faux leather chair, he managed to stand and pace the room. Peter Jackson had accompanied them to the hospital; his face still set in a grim expression and his silent demeanor still stoic. Despite the protests from the rest of the crew; Viggo, John, and Peter were the only ones allowed to accompany Orlando to the hospital. Viggo kept glancing at the clock, mounted high on the wall, above the door of which they were ushered through. Right into this bland looking room, with the decor of a few white faux leather seats, a painting of a country road, and an oak woodened night stand with a pitcher of water and a couple of plastic cups along side it. Viggo hated being in this room. It shut out all the hustle and bustle that was going on about outside of it. Viggo needed to know how things were going with Orlando, he desperately needed to know. He shues aes and breathed deeply, trying to calm and alleviate his nerves. His memory of the accident came rushing back to him like a gigantic tidal wave.

*Flashback*

Viggo laughed at Orlando's expression as he struggled to pull his horse into a complete stop. The gray stallion threw his magnificent head up into the air, snorting in protest, but all the same obeying Orlando's command. "Having car troubles?" Viggo joked, wiggling his eyebrows at Orlando. "Har-bloody-har," Orlando grumbled. He managed to calm his horse wai waited patiently for further instruction from Peter. Viggo observed the young man with a keen eye. "Are you coming over to my place for dinner tonight, baby?" he asked through the side of his mouth. Orlando felt his face grow hot but nodded nonetheless. Viggo grinned triumphantly. It had been nine months since he had confessed his feelings towards the young Brit, and it was no suprise that Orlando had harbored the same feelings for his older, charming co-star. The couple had only become intimate about a month ago. None of the other cast and crew members new about their secret affair, and both men were in no rush to announce the news to the world.

{{But I wish I could. I wish that I could tell the whole world that I, Orlando Bloom, am deeply in love with Viggo Mortensen}} Orlando thought to himself wistfully. "Okay, Orlando I'm going to have Brett clamber up on with you for the battle with the Warg Riders," Peter instructed through a mega-phone. Why he had a mega-phone, Orlando had no idea; but he nodded in understanding anyway. Orlando watched with a tiny smile as Brett, Gimli's stunt double, approached him and his horse with an uneasy eye. The gray stallion snorted and gnawed at the bit while pawing the ground nervously. "It's alright mate, he's just raring to go," Orlando reassured Brett once he saw the apprehension spread across his features. Brett nodded and clenched his fists in determination. He started forward once again, reaching up and arm in order for Orlando’s hand to clasp around and heft the light man into the saddle behind him. Orlando’s horse snorted once again and bobbed its head enthusiastically. Brett gasped and backed away sharply. “Come on mate, we haven’t got all day,” Orlando encouraged him. Viggo felt sympathy for Brett. He himself wouldn’t dare going near a creature with monstrous size if he were Brett’s height either.

A sudden, sharp breeze picked up; nearly causing Brett to lose his balance. Viggo’s horse threw his head up, the white’s of its eyes blazing madly. It reared up and whinnied fiercely. Viggo tried to speak calm and soothing words to the bay gelding, but to no avail. The nervousness from the bay only added fuel to the gray stallion’s fretfulness. The stallion let loose and shrill squeal and bolted. It powered on despite the sharp tug he rhe reins and Orlando’s commands to stop. Orlando could scarcely hear the shouts of alarm due to the sharp whistling of the wind in his eyes. He glanced over his shoulder and watched with despair as the cast and crew gradually faded into tiny dots. “Please boy, please stop,” Orlando begged pitifully, attempting to pull at the reins again. To his horror, the stallion gave a tiny buck; trying to relieve himself from his rider. The reins were wrenched from Orlando’s hands and it was all he could do to clasp his arms around the horse’s muscular neck to keep from falling off. Orlando watched, in slight amazement, the ground fly beneath them. He clenched his eyes shut, and pursed his lips. He didn’t want to know how fast they were going. Both ways, if he fell now, skin was going to get ripped off and he was going to be in severe pain.

“Orlando, I’m coming for you!” Orlando’s eyes flew open and shot to his left. Viggo was riding ferociously, desperately trying to catch up. “Viggo,” Orlando whispered. “Sit straight Orlando, remember what we were taught? Sit straight!” Viggo commanded. Orlando nodded and with some difficulty, managed to straighten out his posture. His hands gripped the silvery mane before him and he locked his elbows, enabling himself some balance. “Good job, baby,” Viggo praised, “now I’m going to veer in as close as I can. As soon as I do, I want you to launch yourself towards me and hang on tight,” Viggo hollered over the howling wind. Orlando swallowed the lump in his throat, apprehension filling his veins. “You can do it Orlando,” Viggo encouraged him. At Orlando’s nod, Viggo started to pull his horse close to Orlando’s. Orlando’s whole body tensed, his muscles tightening with adrenaline. “Do this right, Orlando,” Viggo instructed him. Orlando took in a deep breath and stretched one arm out towards Viggo. “Come on baby,” Viggo whispered to himself.

Orlando’s eyes grew impossibly wide the moment he felt his horse’s weight shift and lurch forward. The gray stallion had tripped over a protruding rock and had lost his balance. “No,” Viggo gasped as Orlando was viciously torn away from him. He watched in horror as the scene played it self out in slow motion. The velocity of which the horse was going caused both horse and rider to catapult through the air and flip up side down. Viggo winced at the dull thud of Orlando’s body slamming into the earth. He slid a few feet before eventually skidding to a halt. That wasn’t the worst to come, Viggo soon came to realize. The stallion landed a few inches in front of Orlando. In its panic, it rolled over. Right onto him. It squealed and thrashed in pain; one of its front legs had been shattered.

Viggo abruptly stopped his horse and jumped down. Viggo hastily ran over to both fallen horse and rider, narrowly avoiding the stallion’s thrashing legs. Fortunately, the stallion hadn’t rolled over onto Orlando’s head, but was draped over his lower body. Still, Viggo worried that the stallion’s frantic thrashing would dislodge a bone or something. The roar of an engine snapped his attention behind him. He watched with relief as Peter, along with Ian, John, and a few other cast members arrived in the company jeep. “Call 911!” he screamed. Peter pulled out his cell-phone and handed the phone to another crew member; ordering him to do the command. Then he, Ian, and John jumped from the jeep once it came to a complete stop and ran over to aid Viggo. The four men struggled to lift the stallion off Orlando’s motionless body. Though it was a difficult task, they managed to get the stallion on its feet. Viggo watched sadly has the stallion was led away, hobbling on three legs pitifully and groaning in pain. He then snapped his attention back towards Orlando and dropped to his knees beside his lover. Orlando’s features seemed relaxed, but his complexion was deathly pale.

“Orlando, wake up please,” Viggo begged, “please don’t die,” he choked out. He reached down and stroked Orlando’s face, which was cold to the touch. “Where the fuck is the ambulance?” he demanded, his tone becoming hysterical. “They said they’d be here in about twenty minutes,” a crew member answered timidly. “Fuck!” Viggo screamed, tears blurring his vision and fists clenching in frustration. “We can’t move him Vig,” Peter piped up, as if reading his thoughts. “If we don’t move him and get to the hospital, he could die!” Viggo snapped. “Calm down lad, you’re starting to hyperventilate,” Ian tried to sound soothing. “Orlando will be okay, just keep talking to him. Let him know you’re here by his side,” he added. Viggo slowly nodded at Ian’s calming words and took in deep breaths. Freaking out now wouldn’t help matters. His reached down and held Orlando’s hand, gently squeezing it. “I’m here Orlando, hold tight, help is on its way,” Viggo whispered. Orlando’s eyes slowly fluttered open and he whimpered in pain. Viggo gasped. “Orlando,” he murmured, and tried a tiny smile. Orlando whimpered in pain once again and closed his eyes.

holding out and holding in~

Viggo’s head snapped up from the cradle of his hands at the sound of the door opening. An Asian doctor stepped into the room and offered everyone a tiny smile. “Hello gentlemen, my name is Doctor Stockstill,” she greeted them all. An answering somber murmur greeted her ears. “I know you all are here awaiting the news of Mr. Bloom, and I apologize to keep you waiting,” she said sympathetically. “Do you think you can just tell us the news, we really just want to know how things went,” Peter tried not to sound rude, but the anxiety in the room was getting to him. Doctor Stockstill brushed aside his clipped tone and nodded in understanding. “Due to this horrific accident, Mr. Bloom suffered from several breaks and will suffer dire consequences,” she explained. Viggo felt the room grow cold and he shuddered. “He shattered both of his hip bones and a few lower back vertebrae were crushed,” she continued on.

“I’m sorry to say, that Mr. Bloom will suffer from paralysis from the waist down and may not be able to walk ever again,” she finished somberly. A small sob tore itself from Viggo’s throat and he once again covered his face with his hands. He felt a hand on his back, rubbing soothing circles. “He was told that before,” John’s voice muttered beside his ear. “Yes,” the doctor looked down at her clip-board, consultOrlaOrlando’s medical history, “it was a miracle that he was able to walk, let’s pray for that miracle again,” she murmured. “Do you think we can see him?” Peter forced out through a constricted throat. “Yes you may, but he’s in a deep sleep right now. I suggest you talk to him and let him know you’re there by his side,” Doctor Stockstill advised. Viggo glanced towards Ian, who had uttered the same words earlier. The elderly man remained stonily silent, though his eyes didn’t hide the despaired emotion running through him. Doctor Stockstill opened the door and all the hustle and bustle of the hospital came rushing in. She held the door open for all four men to pass through, and reluctantly led the way to Orlando’s room.
