Part Nine

Part Nine:

The following day, after the twins had finally wakened, and Galdor had given them the healing potion, was spent by the twins on the training grounds trading skills with the Imladris elves. With Glorfindel away, Elladan had taken over training. He was frustrated to not be out hunting orcs or being sent out to gather news of the enemy, and that frustration showed in his temperament. He was short with the new guards and would not give a compliment to anyone.

“He is not always this harsh.” One of the guards told the Mithlond twins in a whisper.

“I should hope not,” replied Gondithen, “If he were, I don’t think there would be anyone signing up for the guards.”

“Do you have something to add my friend?” Elladan had caught some of the conversation, and although the twins were guests he did not take lightly the mockery of himself or his teaching.

“No, sir.” Gondithen said quickly while vigorously shaking his head.

“Then let us continue.”

After the training session ended some of the Imladris warriors stood around the twins talking when Elladan approached. “May I have a word with you?” he asked Gondithen, the younger twin followed Elladan as he walked towards the woods which bordered the training grounds. Gondithen caught up with him quickly.

“My lord, I am sorry for disrupting your session…”

No,” Elladan cut in “It is I who is sorry. There is so much going on right now and I wish to be a part of it, but am stuck here training youngsters, but that is no excuse. I should not have jumped you like that.”

“It is alright, my lord, we are all on edge now and I did not take it to heart.”

“That is good. And stop calling me ‘my lord’; it sounds like you are talking to my father. I am just Elladan.” He said with a smile. They had walked in to the woods now.

“Let me show you something.” Elladan said as he led Gondithen farther. Gondithen followed and as Elladan pulled back a branch he gasped at the view before them. They were on the edge of a small cliff and before them a waterfall the emptied into a small pool before trickling toward the Bruinen by way of a creek.

“It is beautiful, is it not?” Elladan asked in a whisper as if he were afraid to disturb the scene in front of them. “My brother and I come here often and though it is not hidden it has somehow become our place alone. I can not imagine ever leaving this place even though I know we will one day sail.” he said almost to himself.

“Then you have made your choice? You will become one of the elder and sail to Aman with your father.” Gondithen did not know why, but this gave him such joy to hear this news.

“Yes, my brother and I will sail, but it will not be for a long time yet. If my foster brother is successful in his mission, my sister will stay and become mortal. If that happens we will not leave her until her time is over.” Elladan did not know why he was telling his innermost feelings and thoughts to someone who was practically a stranger but it felt good to talk to him. He felt as if this elf already knew so much about him. “I am sorry to burden you with this; I know we all have our own problems.”

“No, Elladan, do not be sorry. We all need someone to talk to.” Gondithen smiled. They stared into each others eyes until Elladan cleared his throat “We should be getting back.”

They walked slowly on the path chatting about mundane things until they came back to the clearing. Nórdithen had already left to get ready for the afternoon meal. They walked on to the house and Elladan did not leave him until they were at the twin’s door.

“I will see you at dinner.” he said with a small bow and quickly walked away towards the family wing.

Nórdithen was waiting for his twin when he slipped through the door. “What did he say?” he asked eagerly.

“He wanted to apologize for yelling during training.” Gondithen said as he began to take off his cloths and get washed up.

“That’s it, you were gone quite a long time for him just to apologize, what else did he say?”

“Nothing.” Gondithen had never kept anything from his twin, but for once it did not feel right to tell him what was said between himself and Elladan.

“Fine, do not tell me.” Nórdithen huffed.

The rest of the time was spent in quiet while the twins prepared for dinner with Nórdithen pouting and Gondithen thinking on the conversation he had had with Elladan and how beautiful his eyes had been when he was angry with him.

In another part of the house at the same time Galdor was also getting ready for dinner.
