Chapter 7.- Monty Python and Ice Cream

“Excuse me; I did not want to upset you. I just wanted to apologize again for everything. Also I wanted to know if you needed anything else.”

“Well, a truckload of painkillers would be nice.”

It sounded like if it had been any other occasion, that would have been a joke, but the bite in her voice made him feel like his mother was still berating him.

“I hope you are not feeling too bad.” He said quietly

“Well, I’d be better but some buttplug crashed into my car yesterday then I had to go to hospital, to make matters worse, I wake up to hear my name on the radio and my face splattered all over magazines and the TV. Emily has been fending off reporters all day.”

“So it seems, she is quite to the point. I am still sorry for all of this.”

“Yes, she is to the point, as am I. Look, if you apologize one more time I’ll personally fly to California and kick your arse up and down the street, it’s getting on my nerves, ok,? I have stuff to do; I will contact you, Mr. Wood if I need anything else. Have a nice day.”

The last remark was said in a very scathing tone and he heard the receiver slam down on him.

He looked up to see that Billy had the other line in his hand and was almost wetting himself with laughter.

“Nice pickle ya got yourself into mate. Ya eejit.”

Elijah picked up a book off the mantle and it went sailing across the room towards Billy’s head.

“What did the wipe want?” Amethyst and Emily were watching Anya intently.

“Apologizing again. Honestly, I’d much rather carried on with my little fantasies than having met him, what a twat. Lets get some ice cream and watch some really silly movies.” She walked across the room and whipped out Monty Python and the Holy Grail. Minutes later, the paparazzi, which were camped out on the lawn outside heard very loud screeching of

“You mother was a hamster and your father smelt of elderberries!” and other such nonsense.

After they had eaten their way through two pots of ice cream and watched Undercover Brother as well “SOLID.” They decided it was time to call it a night. Anya had decided to just ignore the press, she would be chip paper the next day, as the old saying went and she wanted to go back to work, and some normality. She fed her fish and watched Reggie her crayfish kill one of the feeders in his tank and begin munching happily until she fell asleep.

“Aaagh! Bugger, morning. ugh.” She groaned as she heaved herself out of bed, and heard

“Anya Reid, the young girl in the crash involving Elijah Wood, it has emerged, works in a knife shop, where she makes a living selling the Lord of the Rings swords in a bizarre twist of fate….”

Click. Anya shut the radio off. Bugger. That’s just what I needed. She trudged sleepily to the shower and found herself beginning to cry beneath the soothing warm water. It was hitting her wound and hurting, but she felt so overwhelmed at the last few days, and now her private business was splashed for every one to see. She had not wanted this; she had chosen a quiet life, with her friends and family, not some movie star lifestyle. When the pain in her head became too much, she stepped out of the shower and got ready for work.

Emily and Amethyst were in the kitchen, they got got a bacon and cheese buttie ready for her and she felt much of her sadness ebb away, her friends loved her, they and her family were the only ones who mattered. Emily had agreed to take her to work, as she still did not have a car. She found a host of reporters outside the shop and had difficulty getting her way through, that is until Emily punched one of them in the nose. Eric seemed ecstatic at the exposure, but he also figured how hard it must be for Anya to deal with this. He let her sit in the back room most of the day, but every now and again she came out and worked, just to keep herself sane. She resigned to polish the swords and wax them all up.
