Mustn't cry...

Disclaimer: Not true, all made up!
Notes: I am very sorry that this took so long (months actually), but I’ve been having quite a hard time personally and...this just blocked. I am aware of the fact that this chapter is very short, but please give me the time to pick up what I have started.

5. Mustn’t cry...

Dom felt tired when he finally arrived at home. Not his fault. McKellen. Why couldn’t the other man accept what was right for Dominic? Shaking his head Dom let himself fall down heavily on his couch and reached out his hands for the cigarettes lying on the table nearby.

His hands stopped shivering when he lit himself a cig, enjoying the burning sensation of the smoke travelling down his throat. He had been right, he told himself again and again. Billy was good for him. The strange creature was the only friend Dom had now.

//Alone... In the end every living creature dies alone...// a little voice breathed in Dom’s mind and Dom shivered involuntarily. //Not alone anymore...// he reminded himself. Billy was there. Billy was his friend.

“Dommie...” Billy hissed quietly when he appeared hours later. If Dom hadn’t known better he could’ve sworn that the creature was surprised to see Dom who was still sitting on his couch, his cigarettes long ago having turned into cold ash.

“I have been waiting for you,” Dom replied in a hoarse voice and moved to stand up. “I have been waiting for you all day,...Billy...” He hesitated to call the other man by his name, not knowing if he was allowed to do so.

The thin line of Billy’s lips seemed to stretch into a smile, but it didn’t radiate any warmth. Billy’s smile was as cold as ice. He didn’t answer, didn’t show Dom with any sign what he was thinking. His eerie eyes seemed to burn Dom with their gaze and after a while Dom had to look away cause he already could feel the cold flames eating him up from the inside.

“Why...” He cleared his throat. No, he had asked that before. Nervously he felt his bruised throat that was still hurting where Billy’s fingers had touched him the day before. “You said that you’ve been watching me all my life,” Dom finally managed to say. “Why haven’t I seen you before then? Why now?”

Light flickered in Billy’s green eyes as he moved as fast as lightning, coming to stand next to Dom. “I’m the shadow in the corner of the room,” Billy hissed into Dominic’s ear, holding the other man close by his neck, Billy’s long, sharp claws grazing the softness of Dom’s skin. “Can’t see shadows in the dark...” Dom shivered when Billy’s breath so much like winter wind brushed over his throat.

Dom swallowed the lump that was beginning to form in his throat. “But why now?” The words seemed to choke him and nearly he couldn’t get them out.

“Because in the end every living creature dies alone...” suddenly Billy’s voice was sounding so sad, so alone that it nearly broke Dom’s heart. “Can’t you see it?” Billy asked, standing so close to Dominic that their bodies nearly touched. “Only darkness ahead... So dark...”

A sob broke from Dom’s lips as he felt his knees give way and his body hit the ground heavily. “I am going to die?!” he nearly screamed, his voice getting hysterically high. “But... I don’t want to die. Not...” He reached out his hands and there was Billy again, craddling Dom’s skull in his arms. Slowly Dom relaxed a little, leaning into the creature’s touch although it was burning his skin.

“All who die once lived and all that lives must die...” Billy sang and Dom felt the other man’s claws break his skin, but he didn’t care. Billy was there taking care of him. Not alone... “Such a beautiful boy, Dominic...” the creature continued whispering. “Mustn’t cry...cause all that lives must die.”

Slowly Dom felt the reality slipping away from him as he fell asleep in Billy’s arms. “Mustn’t cry...” he repeated. //Not alone... Never alone...//
