Dinner Time

Chapter four: Dinner time

As dinner time came, Legolas smiled happily, knowing it would mean he’d get to see the proud marchwarden, nearly bouncing from his room, he bumped into Rumil, apologising straight away, only then noting the sad look in the youngster’s face, “Rumil, what’s wrong?”
Rumil sighed quietly, looking at him, “Haldir offered himself up for me…he shouldn’t have, I…he shouldn’t suffer your father’s wishes and actions alone”

Legolas raised an eyebrow, “I’m sure Haldir will not be harmed by my father, Ada’s a good man, he’d never hurt someone if he didn’t have to”
Rumil looked at him, then nodded, “I hope so my Prince” then moved into the dining hall, wondering where he was to sit, the king bid him to come, sit on his right.
Moving there, he then noticed Haldir kneeling on the ground besides the king, sitting down silently, he looked to his brother, “You shouldn’t do this alone”

Haldir shook his head, indicating that this was how he wanted things, and, that Rumil needn’t worry.
Legolas sat himself down on his father’s left, looking at Haldir, taking him in fully, blushing as he noted what his father had earlier, swiftly looking back up, forcing himself to focus on his meal, silently requesting his father to be allowed to have Haldir for the night.
His father nodded, “After dinner my son”
The king then filled a small bowl with wine, placing it on the ground before Haldir, whom he told not to use his hands.

Legolas watched as though enchanted as Haldir leaned down, it was only then he noted that his father had braided the Lothlorien elf’s hair, in the fashion of a slave.
It was good that he had, for otherwise Haldir’s hair would surely have been all in the bowl.
Mesmerized he watched as the marchwarden’s tongue darted out to lap at the wine, drinking it as a dog would.

When the marchwarden sat up, two drops of wine slid down his chin, but Haldir dared not wipe them away. Legolas stared at the drops, in his mind images passing by of him licking them away…He shivered as his cheek flushed, “Ada, can he not eat and drink like us?”
Thranduil looked at his son, “Ah, but Haldir wanted this my son, he’s our pet now, aren’t you marchwarden”

As on cue, Haldir nodded, softly speaking, “Yes Hîr-nîn”

Thranduil petted his hair and smiled, “Good boy” then he proceeded taking an apple, offering the warden a slice.
Haldir took it, his arrogance put aside merely to ensure his brother’s safety, as well as to get the food he wanted, and believed he needed.

Legolas swiftly excused himself, the image of Haldir’s eating rising feelings deep within him, feelings he didn’t want to feel in a public room.
Thranduil then returned his focus to the warden, “My son has requested your audience, you will do whatever pleases him, is this clear?”

Haldir looked visibly irritated, but he nodded none the less, “Yes Hîr-nîn, I understand”

Thranduil looked at Rumil, “You shall take your brother to my son’s chambers, you will deliver him as you should, as a pet. Then, you will return to me here”
Rumil nodded, taking the leash that was offered to him, leading the warden out of the room, then making him stand, hugging him, “I’m so sorry Haldir, you should never have…”

Haldir smiled, holding his younger brother, “I would do anything to protect you, I wish lord Celeborn had but agreed to give up Orophin, rather than you…You’re so young still, so innocent…” He recalled the king’s words, “If he does anything you don’t want Rumil, get away and come find me”
He moved back onto his knees, looking at the door of the prince, “Deliver me and return swiftly to the king”

Rumil nodded, then knocked on the Legolas’ door, “I love you brother”
Haldir smiled, “And I you little one”
