Chapter 31

Author's note: some fun.....how many ways have they done it?
...............................................
Haldir studied the narrowest part of the pass from the western side of the gorge. Two horses at the most would be able to pass through it at a time. Gazing across the gap at the far side, he noticed that it would be hard for any horseman to attempt a climb if they tried to get away. There was a slight slope on this side, but he meant to man that himself. Orophin would stay above him and Ashva behind him. Rumil and the hunters would man the other 'safer' side. He did not know if the cousins would stay but Etta and Atluf had already told him that they were going to help. Gazing down into the gap with its deep snow, he spotted the fine stream of water that said the thaw was beginning. Soon he thought, soon.

Rumil protested being on the 'safe' side, but Haldir would not be swayed. He didn't want a unit of panic stricken horses running him over. Besides, one of them had to be over there, and Haldir thought Rumil was the better archer. Ashva kept her thoughts to herself. Haldir was not in a good mood.

"He, better than me?" Orophin grumbled loudly.

"He hits his targets more often then you," Haldir snapped as he led them back to the camp.

"Only because I do not try as hard," Orophin explained. "In a real fight I never miss."

"Then let us hope you don't miss this time," Haldir retorted and stopped in his tracks. Hod and Fell were in the camp roasting another animal over the fire. The wolves were tugging on its pelt. Etta was sewing something, and Atluf was messing with his bow. "I lead an army of fools," he muttered under his breath and stormed off.

Rumil started to follow but Orophin grabbed his arm and said, "Let him be, brother."

Ashva hesitated a moment, wondering if he really needed to be alone or not. She looked up at Orophin who gave her a wink and nodded his head in the direction that Haldir had gone. She gave her bow to him and then ran after Haldir.

Haldir couldn't shake the bad feeling that gnawed at his gut and threatened his normally sweet nature. Finding an outcrop of rocks surrounded by thin evergreen sapplings, he climbed on the boulders and crouched there with his cloak pulled around him and his eyes on his thoughts. He heard someone coming and took a posture that was more like a man and less like a vulture. He was not surprised to see that it was Ashva.

She stopped running when she spotted him and put her hands behind her back in an attempt to be playful and draw a smile out of him. Haldir hadn't smiled for several days if you didn't include his smirks and snarls.
"What troubles you?" she asked and stood in front of him, he staring down at her with that perfect face.

"I am not certain," he replied and leaned forward so that they could better see each other. "Every little thing is like a burr on my skin, sticking me until I want to scream."

She laid her hands on his knees and smiled. "Perhaps you need me to check your back to make sure there are no burrs."

He cocked his head, reading more into her remark than the words off her lips. "Are you wanting revenge for last night?" he asked curiously.

"You are bundled so tightly, there is no bare skin to torture," she teased. "I would have to use my own charms to seduce you," she continued and bent over and kissed his right leg. Placing both hands on the leg, she ran her nails up his thigh and back down again.

"Child's play," he remarked casually, "if you are trying to seduce me."

"Then let me play," she answered and moved his knees farther apart. Letting her nails run up his thigh again, she bent over and bit him on the inside of the leg. Not hard, but certainly hard enough to get his attention. Just as quickly she bit him on the other thigh, but just a little higher up. Then without any indication that she was going to do so, she stood up, stretched and said, "You are right. It's child's play. I'm going back to the camp." She turned to leave, but he swiftly grabbed her arm and pulled her back.

"But I am not a child," he answered richly, his gaze boring into hers. "You do not put thoughts in my mind and then walk away."

"What thoughts have I put into your mind?" she asked innocently. "Did I caress you last night and leave you frustrated and hungry? Did I trouble your sleep?"

"You have troubled my sleep more than one night," he answered and jumped gracefully off the rocks. Holding her arm, he drew her to him. "You trouble my waking thoughts. What am I going to do with you?"

She smiled and raised her beautiful face to his. "Love me," she whispered.

He captured her mouth in a fiery kiss that demanded she yield to him, but she caught his lower lip and sucked it between her teeth. A part of her wanted to bite down hard, to draw blood, to taste his life essence, but instead she slowly released him. She would never intentionally hurt him.

"Haldir, it's cold," she weakly protested as he kissed her throat and warmed her ear with his breath.

"Yes, it is," he agreed and then silenced her with another fierce kiss. He then picked her up and set her on the boulder. She watched in awe as he removed her boots then unlaced her leggings. "Take them off."
Ashva did as he said, unsure of how they were going to do this, but he was untieing the laces on his leggings and lowering them without removing his boots.

He grabbed her and said, "Wrap your legs around me." He then leaned against the boulder and groaned as she mounted him and he sank into her hot core. Ashva felt light headed and breathless, and the ache inside of her only got stronger as he moved within her, slowly, touching that sweet spark until she could stand it no longer. It was all she could do to hold on, to not melt into a hot pool of liquid. He watched the passion burn her face and kissed her lips, his tongue finding its way inside of her mouth. He was in need of release and turned her towards the rock, driving himself repeatedly into her until he felt the first whispers of his own orgasm building to a powerful implosion of flesh. Ashva now watched the power of passion darken his face.

Funny how they were both sweating, and there being ice and snow on the ground.

Orophin smiled when Ashva and Haldir finally returned to the camp. "Better?" he asked curiously.

Haldir didn't say anything but did manage to bob his head once."What is that thing you are cooking?" he asked Hod.

"Mountain rat," Hod answered. "They grow big up here."

"It's an acquired taste," Fell added. "But look what Atluf brought down." Haldir looked and saw a dead goat.

"I think I'll wait for that one," he said.
