A Quiet Time

A/N: A bit of a break in the “hawt sex” here. We do have a story to continue, yes? ~giggle~ But don’t worry. There’s plenty more to come! His Haughty Highness hasn’t quite yet gotten his fill.

Moxie - The Hateful One is very pleased that you are enjoying his story. These next two chapters move the plot along a bit. But fear not! There will be some one-on-one fun between Annowe and Haldir in a chapter or two! ~grin~

“Legolas,” she whispered, stroking his damp hair.

Legolas closed his eyes. He could not believe what had just happened. If anyone had told him that he would be sharing his beloved nymph with the hateful March Warden, he would have believed them to be mad. But the pleasure of his tingling body could not be denied. He had shared her - more than once and he would do it again.

“Annowe,” he murmured, kissing her gently as Haldir stroked his back.

With a contented sigh, he slowly withdrew from her and eased himself on her other side. Haldir stroked her damp skin and she turned to kiss him tenderly. The three of them lay there, side-by-side, happily content with Annowe in the middle.

They did not speak for a long time, letting their hands, fingers and lips convey their satisfaction. Tenderly, Legolas kissed Annowe, running his hand lightly over her trembling skin as Haldir bent his head to gently suckle her. With one hand, Annowe cradled Haldir’s head against her and the other she tangled in Legolas’ hair.

Gradually, their positions changed so that Legolas rested his head between Annowe’s breasts as one of his hands tentatively reached out to stroke Haldir’s smooth shoulder. The March Warden sighed and gently stroked the prince’s hair as he slowly kissed the naiad.

Haldir moaned softly as Annowe’s tongue gently probed his mouth and Legolas’ hand ran gently over his shoulder. He never would have believed that his fantasy would come true and so deliciously. Legolas kissed his way up the naiad’s body and his eager lips joined theirs. Annowe giggled delightedly as she kissed Haldir then Legolas then Haldir again then the three of them kissed each other, their tongues entwining. She wrapped her arms around them both, cradling their flaxen heads with a sigh of contentment.

She never wanted this moment to end. Both beautiful elves, naked and satisfied, lying in her arms just as she had imagined. She ran her fingers lightly over their smooth skin, enjoying the sensation of the chills she caused. She breathed in deeply of their scent, kissing first Legolas on the neck then Haldir as the two elves kissed each other.

Her eager eyes and fingers ran over their lithe bodies, taking in every sensuous curve of muscle as her lips slowly followed in their wake. Legolas moaned softly as Annowe’s soft lips moved over his chest and her delicate hands stroked his abdomen.

Their contented silence was broken by the sound of the ranger’s voice softly calling for Legolas. Immediately Legolas moved to leave and Annowe clutched him desperately.

“No,” she begged. “Please don’t leave me again!”

Legolas hesitated. As much as he wanted to stay here with her he had given his word to continue the quest.

“I must go, Annowe,” the prince murmured reluctantly, stroking her hair. He closed his eyes and silently begged her not to make this more difficult on him. Did she not understand how desperately he wanted to remain with her?

“No, please, Legolas,” she choked, clinging to him, willing the moment to last, silently begging Aragorn to be gone.

“I will tell him you will join him shortly,” Haldir murmured, squeezing the younger elf’s shoulder in re-assurance.

Legolas opened his eyes and mutely nodded his thanks. The March Warden stood and quickly slipped into his tunic and trousers before leaving the two of them alone on the flet.

Annowe buried her face into Legolas’ neck and sobbed shamelessly. She was terrified for him – more so now than when he had left Rivendell. The wizard had perished – who would be next? And what if her vision was about Legolas and not Haldir? Not that she had ever been that badly mistaken before but in her state of anxiety she was ready to believe any dire prediction.

Clenching his jaw and swallowing back his own tears, Legolas squeezed her tightly, smelling her hair and willing himself to remember the feeling of her soft skin under his hands.

“I will return to you,” he promised her softly. “I promise.”

She sniffed and cleared her throat. “I’m scared,” she admitted in a small voice.

“Me, too,” he admitted, tenderly wiping her tears away.

Taking a deep breath, she confessed, “I had a vision.”

A chill crept up Legolas’ spine and he shuddered involuntarily. He did not like the sound of that.

“It wasn’t about you although I’m not sure now, I’m so frightened,” she began.

Wordlessly, he squeezed her reassuringly.

“I saw Haldir on some battlements with you and the dwarf. You were fighting. Someone attacks him from behind,” she didn’t want to finish the sentence but knew he wouldn’t understand her fear unless she did. “He . . . he dies.”

Legolas grunted. “Are you sure?”

She nodded against his chest. “Yes.”

He closed his eyes and sighed. “Is it inevitable?”

“No,” she said with a faint touch of hope. “Although I fear that you are in danger as well but I cannot see it.”

“But you have not seen my demise?” He pressed anxiously.

“No, nor any of your companions but that means nothing now,” the naiad replied.

Legolas sighed and thought of her words. What could he do? He would be leaving her with Haldir to pursue his quest and it was possible that neither of them would return to her. And if her vision were true, certainly Haldir would not return. He shivered at the thought.

“Listen,” Legolas said, tipping her chin up to him so he could gaze into her troubled eyes. “If I am there with Haldir, I will try to keep an eye on him.”

She let out a heavy sigh of relief at his words and hugged him. “Thank you. I know he’s hateful but he does not deserve to die,” she murmured.

“But I must go,” he said gently and sat up still holding her.

“Legolas,” she said again but did not beg him to stay or cry. “Be careful, I beg of you!”

“Shhhh,” he soothed, stroking her hair. “I will. I must return to claim you! I cannot let Haldir have the last laugh.”

She smiled slightly at this and he stood up to pull on his tunic and trousers. She watched him, her eyes trying to remember every beautiful curve of his supple form. He would leave her again. She swallowed hard and tried not to think about it. If she thought about it she would go mad.

“Annowe,” he said after he had finished dressing. “I want you to know that I trust you.”

She frowned curiously at his words and stood up, sliding up to him. “I know that,” she replied, gazing into his gray eyes.

“Yes, but I wanted to say it anyway,” he smiled, his fingers tracing the curve of her jaw. “And I want you to know that if you continue this dalliance with Haldir I will not be angry with you.”

Stunned silence. “What?” Was the only word she could manage to gasp. He was giving her permission to continue with Haldir? The hated March Warden? He must be mad or sensing his own demise. A faint smile flickered over his face at her startled look.

“Are you mad?” She whispered anxiously after recovering her voice.

“No,” he smiled. “But I realize that you will not leave me for him. If you did not give in to him before, there is no reason for me to doubt you now.”

She continued to stare at him in a stunned silence.

“Besides,” he concluded. “If the poor bastard is going to perish, he shouldn’t have to go out celibate.”

At this observation, Annowe actually laughed out loud. How philosophical he had become in the face of death. It made her adore him even more.

“Oh, Legolas!” She shook her head at him. “I don’t know what I’m going to do with you.”

“You’re going to let me complete this quest so I can return to you,” he reminded her, moving toward the stairs.

“Yes,” she agreed. “But please, do be careful. And keep an eye on Haldir for me if you find yourself in that situation.”

He nodded silently and then he was gone. Annowe stood there for several moments staring at the place where he had exited, her mind and body silently weeping for him once again.
