Part Twenty-three
The feast the night before the council promised to surpass all the others that had come before it. The hobbit Frodo and all his friends were there, along with all the other distinguished guests that had come from far and wide. As commanded by Elrond, Erestor would have to be in attendance. He had not laid eyes on Glorfindel since their argument and he was not looking forward to seeing the blond elf. Since they were both Elrond’s top advisors as well as his closest friends, they would both be sitting at the main table and much to Erestor’s chagrin, right beside each other.
Erestor had taken his time in getting ready for the dinner. He had drug his feet and waited until the last minute hoping something would happen that would give him a good excuse for missing, but when the bell for dinner had rang and no disaster had befallen the Last Homely House he decided he had better make his way to the dining hall. He had changed after returning from his office into a very unremarkable black robe, it fit his mood and was one of the oldest robes he owned. In the past Erestor had taken great care in his attire, he looked good and he knew it. He had to when he was seducing everything with two legs. Since the incident, as he had started to call it, he had no desire to look good; the last thing he wanted to do was to play the seducer.
Glorfindel had also taken his time in dressing for dinner, but he had started long before Erestor. If he was going to court his husband again, he was going to make sure Erestor remembered how handsome he was. He had bathed in perfumed oils he remembered Erestor liking, and then he had combed his hair until it shown as golden as summer wheat. The final touches were his outfit. He had changed no less than a half a dozen times until he found the perfect one. He had never liked formal robes, feeling more comfortable in the warrior garb he wore while out on patrol, but he remembered Erestor telling him many times before they married he loved seeing him in robes. Because of this, Glorfindel finally picked a cream color robe with a high collar and wrapped sleeves. Underneath he wore light blue flowing silk pants and a light blue belt tied at his waist, both matched his eyes to perfection. He took one last look at himself in the mirror and decided to quickly tie part of his hair back loosely. This showed off his high cheek bones and brought his eyes, which Erestor had said was one of his best features, out even more.
Erestor and Glorfindel’s rooms were both in the family wing of the Last Homely House just down the hallway from each other. This usually did not pose a problem as they kept very different schedules and would rarely see the other, on this day however both were running a little late for dinner. Erestor stepped into the hall, turned, and just as he was walking past Glorfindel’s door, the warrior was exiting his own rooms. Erestor was taken back at the golden vision before him. Fin looked like one of the Valar, and when his intoxicating scent caught his nose, Erestor felt weak in the knees, but he steeled himself and with only a glance continued walking.
For his part Glorfindel was also surprised, not only by opening his door and seeing the object of his constant thoughts for the last two days straight, but by the dark circles and puffiness of Erestor eyes. Had he been crying? He also looked paler than normal. There was defiantly something wrong with his little love, could the pressure of the council be getting to him, or was it his personal life? Glorfindel felt hope at the fact that maybe the walls Erestor had built around himself to keep him out were starting to show cracks.
Glorfindel inclined his head as Erestor walked on by him but was not surprised when he got no response. Erestor quickened his pace and Glorfindel ran to catch up with him.
“And how are you on this fine evening?” he asked.
Erestor ignored him.
“I am well; I hear we are having roast quail tonight. I remember that was one of your favorite dishes.”
Still nothing from the dark haired elf at his side.
“Are you prepared for the council tomorrow? It should be quite a show. You know how Elrond has a flair for the dramatics. I bet Gandalf has some surprises in store also.”
Erestor quickened his pace ever more to try to get away from the jabbering elf beside him but Glorfindel lengthened his stride and kept up with the dark elf.
“Why do I have the feeling you are trying to get away from me, Erestor?”
“Because that is precisely want I am trying to do,” Erestor said with a hiss.
“Ah, so the cat does not have your tongue.” Glorfindel chuckled.
Erestor huffed and continued to the dining room which he was thankful they had almost reached.
“You know I am just trying to get a response from you, Erestor, and you still let me fluster you.”
Glorfindel was taken back in his mind to a time long before when their love was new, in Gondolin.
*****
He had dined with Erestor and his family, and the family had left the two betrothed elves in the sitting room to have some time alone. Erestor had turned his back to Glorfindel and walked to the window.
“Diner was very lovely. Roast quail is your favorite is it not?”
This got no response from the dark hair elf.
“I have talked to Thel and he has agreed to stand with me in place or my family of the bonding ceremony.”
Still nothing.
“Have you picked out what flowers you would like?”
The young elf remained silent.
Glorfindel rose and walked up to Erestor placing his chin on the shoulder of his little love and wrapping his arms around him to rest on is stomach.
“You are angry.” It was not a question.
“You are very observant,” Erestor said tartly as he tried to shake off Glorfindel.
The first time he had felt the cold shoulder from Erestor it had scared Glorfindel. He had feared he would break off the engagement and that he did not love him anymore. As time when on however he had learned that when Erestor was angry about something he shut down. He would not talk to anyone. Because it did not happen very often it did not bother Glorfindel and lately he had even thought it was a little funny when he got a rise out of Erestor. He would keep talking to him until Erestor became so flustered he would yell at him.
“What is wrong, my love?” Glorfindel asked as he tightened his hold on Erestor.
“How could you promise him that, Fin?” Erestor almost whined.
Erestor did not have to elaborate; Glorfindel knew exactly what he was talking about. Glorfindel had a talk with Erestor’s father just the night before; he had expressed concerns about their age difference and because Glorfindel was so much older and wiser in the ways of the world, Erestor’s father had been afraid for the virtue of his son. Fin had promised him that he would not lay claim to his son until their bonding night. The promise was good enough for Erestor’s and he had happily told Erestor’s mother they had nothing to worry about. Glorfindel was an elf of his word, without knowing Erestor was in the next room.
“My love, I am sorry if this upsets you but I must admit with or without the promise I made to your Ada, I will not claim you before our bonding night. Believe me the night will be ever more special because we have waited.”
“But I cannot wait, I want to be yours.”
Glorfindel turned Erestor around and lead him to the settee where he sat and pulled Erestor down onto his lap.
“I know,” he said as he nuzzled Erestor’s hair, “I want you too, but put yourself in your father’s place, he want to make sure that you are well cared for in every way. I could not deny him that piece of mind. Besides, our first time together is going to be perfect. We will have a big bed to love in, and no interruptions, and we will have all the time that we need to explore each other bodies to the smallest curve.” The last part he had whispered in Erestor’s ear and when he had finished he licked a path from lobe to tip. “And there are many things I can do to you while still keeping my promise to your father.” he continued.
Erestor sighed and shot Fin a wicked look as he rose and sat down again but this time straddling his lord’s thighs. They kissed passionately as Erestor rubbed his heated erection against Glorfindel’s.
******
Glorfindel swallowed hard as he came back to the present, he had gotten a little excited just remembering Erestor’s young warm body rubbing against him in that sensual way. He cleared he throat and Erestor shot him another dirty look. Thankfully they had reached the dining room.
Erestor fumed to his seat and shot Glorfindel daggers as he sat across from him. Galdor was already sitting in the seat beside Glorfindel’s when the golden lord took his seat. He had witnessed the dark looks from Erestor aimed at the blond elf.
“If you are trying to court him, Glorfindel, I think you might be doing it wrong,” he whispered.
“Don’t worry my friend; I have it all under control.”
