Part Twenty-one

A short chapter but one with a lot of feeling. Let me know what you think! You can read the begining at my live journal http://bostonpug.livejournal.com/

Part Twenty-One:

Glorfindel had reluctantly left Elrond and Erestor alone and headed to his office after the morning meeting, but he could not get the look of pain he had seen in Erestor’s eyes out of his mind enough to concentrate on the reports he needed to go over. After reading the same sentence for the fourth time, his frustration got the best on him and he threw the paper on his desk with a sigh and rubbed his eyes.

He knew a talk with Erestor was long overdue. Erestor monopolized his thoughts and had since his return but after over hearing the conversation between Galdor and Erestor in the garden, he had not been able to get his husband out of his thought. He had cried for his mate when he had heard what he had gone through after his own death and could not get over the guilt he felt for failing him. That was the main reason he had put off the conversation he needed to have with Erestor, but the time had come for Erestor to stop running and Glorfindel was going to make him listen to what he had to say even if he had to tie him up. He had put this off long enough; with that thought echoing in his head he rose and made his way back to Erestor’s office. His frustration hurt and longing had finally come to a head and he was not going to wait one more minute to have this resolved.

As he drew closer, his stride became more purposeful and everyone he met in the hallways of the Last Homely House moved out of his way. The look of determination on his face was awe inspiring and almost looked like fury. Many would later talk of the beautiful Balrog Slayer, golden hair flying out behind him, storming through the halls and speculate with their friends who the unlucky person was that was going to receive his tongue lashing and what they had done to deserve it.

When he reached Erestor’s door he did not bother to knock, throwing the door open he kicked it shut again with his foot with a slam and strolled to Erestor’s desk. The dark haired elf had been in a daze but when he door flew open he looked up with a shocked expression and wide eyes. Glorfindel put his palms flat on the desk and leaned over to look Erestor directly in the eye.

“We need to talk,” he said through clinched teeth.

The shock Erestor had felt a moment before evaporated in to anger.

“How dare you storm into my office like this and…”

“Shut up, Erestor, we are going to talk whether you like it or not. I have had enough of this nonsense.”

“And what exactly do we need to talk about Glorfindel?” Erestor said defensively.

“Us,” he said quietly, he then realized he was going about it the wrong way.

“There is no “Us.” Erestor had also calmed and sat back in his chair. He had to use all of his skill to appear nonchalant with the golden haired elf so close and bringing up old wounds. Why was he doing this now? The talk with Elrond had brought the pain once again close to the surface for Erestor, for the last couple days it was all he could do to keep the hurt from taking over. And now here was Glorfindel trying to talk to him, he felt like he was about to break down. He was losing control and for the Chief Advisor to Elrond to lose control was unacceptable.

“Erestor, you are my husband, my death did not null our vows. I love you, just as much now as I did when we were married. I can not live without you anymore.”

That’s too bad. I was just a child when I met you. I can not give you what you need now, Fin, go find someone new.”

“You want me to find what I already have.” Glorfindel was encouraged by Erestor calling him by the pet name he had not heard uttered for centuries. He knew his love’s defenses were breaking down.

“You don’t have me, not any more.” Erestor could no longer meet Glorfindel’s eyes he looked back at the parchment on his desk. “If you will kindly leave I have much preparation to do for the council tomorrow.”

Before Erestor had even finished speaking Glorfindel had rounded the desk and grabbed him but his upper arms hauling him to his feet and forcing him to look at him.

“Look me in the eyes and tell me you don’t love me; that you have no more feeling for me after the love we shared in Gondolin.”

“I don’t love you,” Erestor said flatly.

Two hearts shattered.

“I don’t believe you,” Glorfindel said calmly, belying the agony he felt before he turned and walked from the room.
