My Love

Chapter 2


Both were silent for quite awhile before either said anything. Both Legolas and Haldir were lost in though. Legolas could not help but see Haldir holding Lorena in his arms, and Haldir could not stop from thinking that he would never be good enough for her. What could he give her that Legolas could not? He was a prince after all.

" Legolas Lorena is a Princes you know I have no chance with her. Besides a mate is the last thing I wont or need!"

" Lorena knows that Haldir. That's why she came to Mirkwood. Lord Celeborn was hoping that she would out grow it in time." that statement shocked Haldir the most. Had he been so blind that he did not see any of this? " And you don't think she has?" Haldir asked after a few moments.

" I hope so Haldir. I really do. Legolas waded to the edge of the water. He lay on the bank soaking in the after noon sun. He was so deep in thought that when Lady Galadriel spoke to him in his mind he jumped half out of his skin. " Do not despair Legolas Lorena loves you."

// I know she loves me but will that be enough?//

// Do not push her into his arms Las. as. Be patens with her?//

// Haldir would give her his heart?//

// He already has. I'm not sure if he is aware of it yet. But I know it to be the truth.//

// But my Lady would he betray me like that?//

// Haldir has been going through some changes as of late. It affected him greatly when Lorena left for Mirkwood. He walked around here for years like a lost puppy. Haldir didn't have a chance to tell Lorena Goodbye. She left while he was on patrol.//

// I'll keep that in mind my lady.//

Haldir knew the instant Lady Galadriel started talking to Legolas for he seen him jump half out of his skin. ' I wonder if what he said could be the truth? Could she love me? No Legolas is the best elf for her. He is a prince. What can I give her other then my love? My love? Where in Arda did that come from?' Haldir gave himself a mental shake.

"Hey Legolas you have nothing to worry about she will come around. If anybody has a shot at her heart it's you. I have no wish for a mate. I just want to live in piece. Free from nagging. Haldir do this Haldir do that! No I've no wish to change things I like them just as they are!"

" I don't know which of us is the craziest. Me for giving her my heart or you for not giving her yours." Legolas Chuckled in spite of himself.

Haldir laughed a little as he came to set beside him on the bank. " I'm too old for the likes of Lady Lorena!" Haldir laid back and looked up at the blue sky.

Legolas smiled at is old friend. For he knew that as long as he had a chance with Lorena Haldir would respect them. But for how long did he still have with Lorena? Haldir patted Legolas on the back. " I feel for you my friend! For many an elf would love to be in your shoes. I have to get back to the city. Lady Galadriel wants to see me. Will I see you tonight in my talon?"

"Of course." Legolas smiled and laid back and closed his eyes.

"Mother what is so impotent that I had to come right away?" Lorena asked coming into the royal talan.

Galadriel looked at Lorena with so much love in her eyes. She so loved her youngest child. She did not want to see her hurt. But Lorena had a choice to make and soon. Legolas would not wait for long while she made it.

"What is going on between you and Legolas?" Galadriel asked looking at Lorena from across the room.

" I---- We----"

" Do you love him"?

" Yes but----?"

" He's not Haldir. Is that what you were going to say?" Lorena looked at her mother with shocked eyes.

" Haldir has nothing to do with this. He will never love me the way I need him to. I know that. It still pains me greatly but I know that to be the truth. Legolas wants me to go back to Mirkwood with him. I do not want to go back there to live. This is my home. My family. My people! I know he will not leave his for me. And I would not ask it of him. I love him but he is not for me mother. I wish it were different. Legolas will be king some day. His duty is there. His life is there.

Galadriel looked at her daughter with pride. For she also knew that what Lorena said to be the truth. " Although it will break Legolas's heart I am glade you are wise enough to knew where you're duty lies Lorena. For you still have much to learn. You have only been of age thirteen short years now you have plenty of time to choose a mate."

" Mother... has he been well?"

" Yes and no. He was heart broken that he did not have a chance to say goodbye when you left. For it still weighs heavy in his heart."

" If I wohavehave seen him then, I wouldn't have been able to go. You know that."

" Yes I know." Lorena turned and walked to the widow and looked out. " Do you think I did the right thing in leaving?"

" For you yes. At the time Haldir was incapable of love." Lorena turned to face her mother.

"And now?"

"Haldir is changing Lorena. He's not the same elf as the one you knew when you lift." Galadriel smiled and walked to her daughter's side.

" What do you mean?"

" Give it time and see for your self." Lady Galadriel softly walked out of the room leaving Lorena to her thoughts.

She went on up to her talon to and changed into clean clothes. She had a lessen with Haldir in an hour and she wanted to go get something to eat before then. She headed down to the food talon in deep thought. She didn't see Haldir coming up the stairs. And ran into him head on. She almost lost her balance and feel over the side of the stairs. He reached out and caught her around the waist and pulled her up right.

"Are you all right Lorena?"

"Haldir I'm sorry. I didn't see you coming," she gasped tryingcatccatch her breath.

Haldir smiled at her. Could this be the same Lorena that left here so long ago? "It's all right Lady Lorena. Where are you off to in such a hurry?"

" Oh I was headed down to grab a bite before our lessen this afternoon."

" About that. What do you say we cancel your lessen for day. Find Legolas and talk to hi've 've never seen him this broken hearted." The sad look in her eyes told him that it was no use. She had made up her mind.

"It would only cause both of us more pain Haldir. I will not leave my home again. My place is here and his is in Mirkwood." Haldir was greatly relieved to hear that. Although he knew in his heart he shouldn't be.

"I will expect to see you tomorrow at noon."

" Yes my lord." Haldir smiled and walked past her.

Lorena turned around to watch him go.

" Haldir!" he turned around on the top step.

"Yes My Lady?"

" I misses you in the training yards of Mirkwood! The trainers there were no fun to pick on!" Haldir laughed and came back down the steps and hugged her tightly.

"I missed you as well my little one." She pulled away from him.

" Haldir I'm not a little one anymore. I haven't been in years now." his smile was gone in an instant replaced with a frown.

"I know that Lorena. I missed seeing you grow into the beauty I see standing before me now. I don't envy young Legolas. For I fear that you will be very heard to forget."

" My intension was not to hurt him Haldir. I do love him." Haldir smiled and laid a hand on her arm.

" In truth I don't think there is an elf that he has ever meet him who doesn't love him! But you are the only one in his heart. Think long and hard before you turn away from him Lorena! He will be king one day. And you would be his queen." Lorena closed her eyes. But no smile came to her lips. Only pain was looking back at her. For she knew well what she was giving up with Pe Lee Legolas.

" You have much to think about Lorena. I pray you make the right choice!" She gave a weak smile at Haldir and turned to go on down the stairs and out into the evening air. With a heavy heart Haldir turned and went back up to see the lady of the wood.
