Chapter 18/?

She glanced nervously around as she walked through the long corridors of the hospital. She knew her way through them by heart but anxiety had just made her take a wrong turn for the fifth time. //Fool!// she chided herself //You have worked here for so long, you should find you way even if you’re nervous!// She almost shrieked out loud, as she was suddenly pulled into a room to her left.
“What do you want?” she hissed angrily as her defiant gaze met an intense, green glare.
“Orlando Bloom.” The man said. “He was not in his room. You lied to me. Where is he?”
“No...” Ludmilla gulped anxiously. “I didn’t lie to you... he sneaked out of his room...”
“Sneaked out? How?” “Let go of me!” Ludmilla tried to free herself from the painful hold the man had of her wrists. “I’m not going to tell you anything else! I don’t want this anymore!”
“You.” The man grated out hatefully. “Will. Tell. Me. Everything.” He grabbed hold of her wrists again and pressed her against the wall. “Everything I want to know, understood?”
“No... I...” “Yes, you will.” he repeated again, making her shiver as his hot breath brushed over her skin. “Remember all that money I gave you? You wouldn’t be here without it. And you knew I’d ask a favour of you one day. Well, this is it. Are you going to deny me? I helped you win your case. Remember, I can take that from you everyday. If I told the judges that you bribed witnesses...”
“With your money!” she hissed as he trailed off menacingly.
“So what?” he retorted. “They’re not interested in that. What counts is that you did something illegal to win. You’ll lose custody if I tell them and...”
“No! Please don’t!” she begged. “I will tell you! Jamie is everything to me! Please don’t take him from me!”
“Good.” The man grinned. “Is Orlando in his rooms again? Can I go there without being discovered?”
“Dr Stein sent him back yes, but you can’t go there.”
“Can’t go there? What for fuck’s sake do you mean? Are you trying to keep him from me?”
“He’s not alone. He’s...” “Who?” The man hissed, shaking her violently.
“The... the police...” she rasped out, coughing and sputtering as he stepped back and let go of her.
“The police...” he repeated almost contemplatively. “Why are they here again? Which officers?”
“The same ones...” she stuttered, her eyes wide with fear as she stared at him. “The same ones that were here the other times... I think their names are MacLachlan and Goodie.”
“MacLachlan...” the man repeated “And you said Goodie is here, too?” He smiled as he spoke, his changed mood all the more frightening because of the suddenness of the swing. “Good. Maybe not all is lost then...” He trailed off and then turned towards her once more, before he left. “Remember, I can take Jamie from you whenever I want. Call me as soon as Goodie and MacLachlan are gone.”
She just stared after him, feeling as though her world had just collapsed. Sobbing she readjusted her uniform and sneaked out of the room, determined to continue her duty before someone noticed that she had been missing.
He was pacing up and down the car park, smoking one cigarette after the other nervously. She still hadn’t called him. And he had been standing here for more than 30 minutes now. He stared up at the window of the room he knew Orlando was in. He could make out two shadowy figures through the glass, standing next to the bed. One of them was gesturing animatedly. //Probably the one talking...// he thought impatiently. //The two shadows are probably Goodie and MacLachlan...// He smiled broadly as the two finally disappeared from view. With shaking fingers he fumbled his mobile out of his pocket and glared impatiently at it, willing it to ring. //Call me, cme, me, call me!// He chanted inwardly. He wouldn’t allow Goodie and MacLachlan to keep him from getting his Orlando. Finally the phone rang. //Fuck!// he cursed silently. It wasn’t Ludmilla. For a few moments he listened quietly to the person on the other end of the line, before starting to talk in an angry whisper animatedly.
“No!” he almost screamed a few seconds later. “I will not back down! He’s mine! I staked my claim! Don’t you dare come in my way!” Angrily he broke the connection, kicking at some flowers which grew by the road.
“What the fuck do you want this time?” he snapped angrily as the phone dared to ring again. “I already told you... yes... thanks...” he said after a while, sounding calmer “No, that’s exactly what I wanted to hear... yes, thanks... ok... I will... “grinning he switched the mobile off and put it into his pocket once more. It seemed as though at least some things went the way he wanted them to.

He was fuming as the two officers finally left. The last conversation he had had with Sergeant Goodie had made him hope that all this might have at least some sort of happy end but MacLachlan had started it all again. Growling he threw a newspaper against the door the two officers had just walked through. MacLachlan had made it more than clear that he’d like to arrest Viggo to charge him with attempted murder. “Asshole!” Orlando said decisively, a soft blush starting to colour his cheeks as he saw who was just entering.
“Asshole?” Dr Stein repeated, one eyebrow almost disappearing into his hairline. “What do I owe that honourable title to?”
“I’m sorry.” Orlando whispered. “MacLachlan and Goodie just left and MacLachlan, that bloody fucking son of a ...”
“Calm down, boy!” Dr Stein said, holding his hands up as Orlando tried to start again. “It’s just MacLachlan. There’s no need to take him seriously. He’s all bark, no bite. And even MacLachlan can’t sentence the innocent.”
Orlando only nodded, embarrassed that he had lost control so easily.
“I wanted to talk to you about your... friend.” Dr Stein said, settling himself on the bed, gesturing for Orlando to do the same. He waited till the younger man had sat down and ceased his nervous shifting around.
“What is the matter with Viggo? Has his condition worsened? Is he comatose again?”
“no, no.” Dr Stein said, a small trace of a smile in his voice. “He’s awake and as well as can be expected, considered what happened. He is still weakened but he will be the same again. The thing is...” the white-haired man inhaled deeply, raking his fingers nervously through his hair “Will you be living with him again? And if, how will you deal with your feelings for him? And who will protect you if the burglar strikes again? You said you were sure that he was after you.”
“Yes.” Orlando whispered, his hands shaking slightly while he nervously tugged at a magazine “I’d like to live with him again. If he’ll have me.”
“I’m sure he’d love to.” Dr Stein said, smiling encouragingly. “But what about protection?”
“Maybe we could hire some bodyguard or other...” Orlando thought aloud, glad as he saw the doctor nodding in approval.
“That sounds good.” Dr Frank N. Stein said. “So how about visiting him? You should tell him about your plans.”
“Is he awake again?” “No.”
“I don’t want to wake him.” Orlando decided “Will you tell me if he wakes? I really have to see him but his health is more important.”
“Of course.” Dr Stein noddTillTill later then, boy. Oh, here’s today’s newspaper, by the way.”
Orlando smiled gratefully at the old doctor as he left the room and then settled to read the newspaper, still playing possible scenarios of living with Viggo over in his mind.
//Living with Viggo..// he thought smiling. It sounded wonderful. He was really looking forward to speakwithwith Viggo later in the evening to tell the Dane about his idea. For the meantime he was safe in hospital. At least he thought he was.
