This is work of fiction! I do not know the celebrity(ies) I am writing about, and I do not profit from these writings.
Sunshine
Sunshine comes back to Davie’s life.
Disclaimer: Alright, we all know that Beanie is being fucked by Viggo who is fucking Orli as well who snogs Billy who’s together with Dom fucking Monaghan. In other words: It’s all made up. *shhh* *points at cast* Don’t tell them!
Notes: Thank you to everybody who has kept sending me kind reviews in the last weeks – even though I don’t deserve them after killing poor, sweet Jared... I placed some flowers on his grave from all of you!
14. Sunshine
10 years later in New York
“Mommy?” Eliza called and stood up from where she was sitting on the floor of the living room, flippping through various photographs.
“Yes, darling?” Kate was sitting on the sofa, reading a book.
“Here...” Eliza sat down next to her mother and handed her some photographs. “Who is this man who’s holding me on these?” She pointed at a strawberry-blond man with a beard who was holding the little baby girl securely in his arms.
“Nobody,” Kate answered through clenched teeth and handed the pictures back to Eliza. “Put them back where you found them, honey,” she said in an overly cheerful voice and motioned to get up. “Do you want some hot chocolate? I could make us some...”
“Mum!” Eliza exclaimed, her cheeks red with anger. She turned one of the photographs around. “This one says ‘Eliza and Dave, summer 1999’.” She looked up at her mother. “My dad is called David, right? Is this my father?”
Sighing Kate brushed some strands of long hair from her eyes. “Come here, sweetie,” she whispered and sat down again.
“Mum...” Eliza mumbled. “I can barely remember him...it’s just glimpses, fragments like his voice...his laughter...” She took breath in deeply. “Why did dad leave us?” Elizy asked softly, looking up at her mother. “Mum?” She frowned when she saw that tears were running down her mother’s face.
“I’m sorry,” Kate sobbed and buried her face in her hands. “I...he didn’t leave us, honey. We left him.”
Eliza’s eyes widened in shock. “But...mom!” She stared at her mother. “You lied to me...all these years?”
Kate nodded softly, wiping away the tears running down her cheeks. “I’m so sorry...” she repeated. “I thought it was the best for you at the moment.”
“Eliza shook her head, not believing what was just happening. “But why?”
“I was so angry... I just packed our stuff and moved straightaway to America with Stuart. I knew that I couldn’t keep you from seeing him forever, but I thought that I could at least try...” Kate sniffled.
“Mum...” Tears were rising in Eliza’s eyes as well. “What did he do? I don’t understand!”
Kate sighed deeply. “I don’t think that I’m in any position to tell you, honey...”
Eliza frowned and stared at her mother. “Then I’ll ask him. I want to see my father.”
Kate nodded weakly, knowing that the day had coem she had feared for so long.

“Hey, brother,” Dave whispered softly, letting his fingers remain for a moment on the black stone before he stood up and put the white orchids he had brought into the green plastic vase on the grave. Orchids...Jared’s favourite flowers. Dave smiled softly in memory of his best friend. Even now, yeasr after the other man’s death he came here whenever he could and placed some fresh flowers on the grave.
Beanie blamed him for being unable to let go, but Dave always answered that he didn’t see any reason to let go of a memory so precious to him.
“Bye, Jared,” Dave mumbled and blew a kiss on the grave before he left, frowning when suddenly his cell phone started to ring.
“Hello?” he answered the phone, but nobody answered. “Hello?” Dave repeated, wanting to disconnect the call when suddenly a quiet female voice started to speak.
“Hello, this is Eliza Shepheard. Am I talking to David Wenham?”
Tears of joy started to fill Dave’s eyes whenh e realised to whom he was finally speaking after such a long time. “Yes, this is Dave,” he said in a slightly hoarse voice. “Eliza, is that really you?”
“Yes...” Eliza was sounding a little shy. “I...it was such a long time and I...” Eliza trailed off, not knowing what to say to her father whom she could barely remember.
Dave wiped some tears from his eyes and sat down on a bench. “You...you sound so grown up... The last time I saw you was on your fifth birthday, sunshine...”
Hearing the familiar nickname, Eliza started to cry as well. “I’ve missed you so much, daddy,” she sobbed into the phone and the thought that he couldn’t take her into his arms and soothe her made Dave’s heart ithgten painfully in his chest. “I’m sorry, but I can barely remember you...”
“Don’t be,” Dave whispered in a low voice. “It’s alright now, we found each other...” He sighed deeply. “I tried everything I could, but your mother didn’t allow me to see you,” he tried to explain.
“I don’t understand...” Eliza said in a shaky voice. “Mum never said a word about you until when I found some old photographs yesterday and...I always thought you had left us!”
Dave shook his head. “That’s exactly what I thought she did...”
“I want to meet you,” Eliza suddenly interrupted her father. “As soon as possible, I mean if that’s okay with you...”
Dave’s heart made a happy little jump. “Yes, of course! Whenever you want, honey!”
“I’m on holidays for the next month,” Eliza suggested, thrilled to meet her father again.
“OK,” Dave smiled. “Do you want me to come or...”
“I want to see Australia again,” Eliza said. “Is it really the hot place I remember?”
Dave laughed. “Remember that it is winter here... What doyou say if I book you for a flight next weekend?”
“I’d like that,” Eliza smiled.
“Great...” Dave sighed happily. “I can’t wait to see you. You were a small girl when I last saw you and now you must be a young lady...”
“Oh, you will know me from the moment you see me,” Eliza promised. “There is a bit of family resemblance...”
Dave buried his face in his hands with a groan. “Please tell me you didn’t inherit my nose!”
“No,” Eliza chuckled softly. “I was talking of the hair and I’m quite tall as well... But my nose isn’t that huge, no.”
Dave sighed relievedly. “And I was just going to apologise for it...”
“And even if you don’t recognise me,” Eliza continued. “I watched the Rings trilogy yesterday and I know you from various photographs now...”
“Remember that I’m ten years older, too,” Dave joked. “I’ll take care of the tickets immediately and then I call you back and tell you when your plane will leave, alright?”
“Yes,” Eliza replied. “I miss you, dad!”
Dave’s smile broadened. “I miss you, too, sunshine...”
TBC...
See? We are working on making Dave happy again! Please take the time to leave me a short comment on this! Otherwisely I won’t know if you like what I’m doing here...
