~Between the Two~
Chapter 14 ~Between the Two~
In a way Rachel was angry at Haldir for interrupting them; but playing the situation over in her mind, she realized that Haldir saved her from crossing the line with Legolas.
‘Never again’ She said mentally. “You called Haldir?” Rachel asked standing in front of the bathroom door.
“What shall I wear? You have supplied me with everything but clothes.” Haldir stated as he opened the door.
Turning her back to the door just in case he was nude Rachel replied, “I hope you’ve got that towel wrapped around you. I don’t wish to embarrass you.”
‘Embarrass me?’ Haldir thought. ‘Humans and their modesty’. “I have nothing to be embarrassed about.” Haldir said in a cocky tone. “However I will cover up in order to spare your modesty.”
“I will find you some clothes, give me a minute.” Rachel said as she faced Haldir.
Haldir was about to say something when he noticed the flush of Rachel’s cheeks. At first he thought it was a result of their conversation. But an image of Legolas popped in his head, and he realized he interrupted whatever was happening between the two.
Rachel returned with a t-shirt and some large sweat pants. “Sorry I don’t have any boxers for you, but these should do for tonight. Tomorrow we will take you shopping.”
“Boxers?” Haldir asked.
“Never-mind.” Rachel wasn’t in the mood to explain what boxers were. “If you need me I’ll be in the living room.”
“Lady Rachel?” Haldir asked, “Do you think lady Shannon will be alright?”
The question was unexpected and for a moment Rachel was speechless.
“I am sorry for my behavior earlier, but more so of how I treated lady Shannon. I do not wish to make her angry all the time. Tonight I will mend what has gone wrong between us, but for some reason I do not think a regular apology would not be satisfying.”
“Well you are right about that, a regular apology won’t do. ” Rachel replied. “Why don’t you get dressed, and we can come up with something. Besides I don’t think you’ll have to do too much, deep down she likes you.”

ClimClimbing into her bed Shannon continued to fuss. “This is my house and he treats me this way. He’s an elf.. I’ve got to remember that he’s an elf and elves don’t exist in our world. Oh but he’s so damn stubborn.” Shannon said punching her pillow. “oh god what a beautiful elf he is…. Wait! I’m suppose to be angry at him, not thinking about how good he looks.” Covering her face with her hands Shannon wanted to cry. No one had ever made her feel this way. ‘To hate and love someone at the same time is a bitch’ she thought.
Slowly Shannon started to drift into dream land. The first image that appeared was Haldir. ‘The audacity of him, to be in my dreams as well.’ she thought. ‘But this is my dream and I can control him’ she thought with a smile.

Sitting in the living room, Rachel waited for Haldir to finish dressing. She couldn’t help but think about Legolas. Whatever was going on between them confused her. She couldn’t tell if he was really interested in her or if he just lusted after her. Whatever the attraction between them was needed to end soon.
‘I am with Carter…. Wait what did he mean by Carter doesn’t deserve me?’ Rachel mentally asked herself. Her cell phone rang bringing her back to reality.
“Hello”
“Rach, hey baby how are you?” Carter asked.
“Uh, hey honey. Why are you calling so late?”
“I was just thinking about you.” He stated.
“Really.. Is something wrong?” Rachel asked.
“I don’t know, you tell me?” He said in a testy tone. “About ten minutes ago I got this weird feeling to check up on you. I was going to call the house but Shannon might have answered the phone.”
“Well everything is fine.” Rachel said with a shaky voice. ‘He knows about legolas and I’ she thought.
“If something’s wrong I’ll come over.” he stated flatly.
“No! everything is fine.” Rachel replied hastily. “It was just a long day and Shannon and Haldir were butting heads but everything is fine now.”
“I know you Rach, you’re hiding something from me.” He stated with a hint of anger in his voice.
“I’m just tired. You know how Shannon can get when she’s angry." Trying to change the subject Rachel asked, "What did you do today?”
Noticing how strange she was acting on the phone Carter went along and changed the subject; however he would bring the subject up again during dinner tomorrow. “I was just out with Drake today. Oh before I forget, I’ve got a surprise for you.”
“A surprise? What’s the occasion?” Rachel asked calming down. Carter always knew how to make her feel better when you was stressing.
“Can’t I just do something special for my lady? Besides I know you’ll love what I have in store for you.” Carter said seductively. It was time to get Rachel to open up to him, and pacifying her seemed the perfect way to start the process.
“Really? Well I can’t wait.” Rachel replied smiling, oblivious to Carters true intentions.
