Disclaimer:
I do not own the Lord of the Rings (and associated) book series, nor any of the characters from it. I do not make any money from the writing of this story.
Prologue
A/N: Hello. This is my first fan fiction story. I think there are too few so-called 'mary-sue' story's. There are also too few M/F stories. So I decided to write my own story. English is not my native language so occasionally there will be some grammatical errors. If you happen to find one, please notify me so I can correct them as soon as possible. Flames will be ignored, constructive criticism will be welcomed though. This story will be AU and kind of Mary-Sue. Later on in the story will be graphic content. You have been warned. Otherwise do enjoy reading the story. I hope you like it.
To Belong
Prologue:
It was a devilish night in this forest. The rain came down so hard you couldn’t see more than two feet far. Every now and then, lightning struck the ground. The wind howling through the trees, making shadows you don’t want to see in your worst nightmares. If you looked closely though, you could see a figure trying her best to get out of the forest.
At the edge of the forest was a cabin made of the darkest wood. On three sides of the cabin was a window; on the other side was a door. The interior of the cabin was the same dark wood. The cabin was divided into three rooms, a bedroom, kitchen and sitting room. In the sitting room was a fire place. In front of the fire place was a fake fur rug. Two rocking chairs sat at the edge of the rug. In the middle of the chairs was a home made table. In one of the chairs sat a female in her 50s, knitting. She wore a long farmer style dress, she still had on the apron that she had put on when she had cooked supper. In the other chair sat a male, also in his 50s. He wore loose fitting jeans with a black, long sleeved shirt. He was carving something out of wood.
Suddenly they heard hard knocking on the door. Both were a little shocked
“Who would be out in this storm?”, the female asked?
“I would not know, Anna. But I’ll answer the door.”, her husband said.
He opened the door to see a with fear stricken young lady. She was in dressed in what seemed an undershirt and leggings. On top of that she wore dress that has been shredded. Even though she was covered in mud and soaked to the bone, she had an unearthly beauty and aura around her. She carried a bundle of blankets in het arms. Both she and the bundle were soaked.
The male was shocked to say the least.
“Don’t just stand there! Come in! Would you like something to heat you up?”, he said after a while.
The girl walked in en sat on the rug. She seemed relieved en grateful to be let in the cabin.
“Thank you, I could do with something warm. The weather has not been kind to me lately. I do have something to ask of you, if not to be rude.”, she said carefully.
“Please child, tell me your name. You can ask us anything.”, Anna said.
“My name is…..Lathaniël. I am carrying my daughter in my arms. Because of some……unfortunate circumstances my daughter will not be able to grow up in my home. Would you be so kind and take care of her until she is old enough to return home? Enclosed is a letter that will explain everything. I must ask of you though, if you would give that letter to her when you feel the time is right.”, the young girl said.
Both Anna and her husband were silent. Both thinking about the best course of action. They were not the youngest and raising a child would take a lot of time, money, patience and effort.
Anna looked at her husband. “What do you think Peter?”
“I think we should do as she asked. She seems very desperate.”, Peter said.
“Thank you! A thousand times thank you! I don’t know how to thank you. Her real name is Lathiel, though you may call her something more appropriate for this world. I will be leaving now before they are going to miss me. Again thank you so much!”, Lathaniël said.
She returned her empty cup, handed her daughter to Anna and began walking to the door.
“Wait! Where do you come from then? We don’t know anything about you!”, Anna said.
“You will know once you read the letter.”, Lathaniël answered, “May Elbereth light your path in darks days”
And she walked out the door, back into the storm, that was still raging outside. Anna and Peter still stood in shock. Both had a hard time contemplating what just had happened. It was a dream right? They didn’t had to take care of a baby right? A scream pierced through their thoughts and made it all real.
“Well, I guess we have to take care of her now. I think she will be teased at school for her name when we move to a town though. What shall we call her?”, Anna asked, turning to her husband.
“I think Elize would soot her for now. What did Latha….. or whatever her name is, meant by ‘world’?”, Peter asked.
“I don’t know. But let us pack our bags. We’re moving back to our home in town. This cabin is not a suitable place to raise a child.”
