Summary: Merry goes to find Pippin and gets a surprise

Disclaimer: I’d give my right arm to own Merry, Pippin and Frodo (and the actors who play them) but they belong to the late Mister Tolkien and his descendants (and the actors belong to their parents, hee, hee). Honey belongs to me.
Mistress Brandybuck’s (author) Notes: I was bored, just wrote in, planning by request a prequel and sequel.
*********************************************************************
Pippin Took sat idly in his back garden reading a book. The sun shone down on his hobbit hole, which was located far away on the boarders of Hobbiton. Nobody knew he was there and nobody every wandered through those parts. It should have been quite peaceful if it weren’t for the five-year-old little girl playing in the grass.
“Oh Mariella I cannot hear myself think child” he said putting his book down
“Sorry Daddy” the child sighed, her hands behind her back and a cheeky grin on her face.
Mariella was fair of face, with long sandy curls and cloudy gray eyes.
Pippin smiled at her, he couldn’t stay angry with her.
“Go on then go and play away from the hole, but not too far mind,” he warned her.
Pippin knew she would not encounter anyone but still he worried. He pushed his worries to the back of his mind and picked up his book again as Mariella ran off into the distance.
He was happy enough, but still sometimes he felt lonely, with no one to talk to and not being able to see the one hobbit he missed the most.
**************************************************
Mariella had now run quite a way from Pippin’s sight. She stopped on the hill and looked around at the daisy-covered grass. She then sat down cross-legged and began to pick daises while humming to herself. She had just begun to string them together as a present for Pippin when she heard a voice behind her.
“Hello young miss”
Mariella jumped to her feet dropping her daisies to the ground. There in front of her stood a hobbit, tall and fair-haired like herself. The little girl stood almost frozen with fear; of course she’d never seen another hobbit before.
“Aren’t you going to say hello,” the hobbit asked.
Mariella shock her head.
“Do you live here”?
She nodded
“Then may I speak with your parents”?
Before the hobbit could ask another question Mariella took off and ran towards the direction of her hobbithole. The hobbit followed her in close pursuit
“Daddy, Daddy” Mariella screamed as she bolted into the back garden.
Pippin sprang out of his chair and hoisted the girl into his arms
“There, there child whatever is the matter”
“Hello Pippin” he heard a voice say.
Pippin look out from under Mariella’s soft curls and nearly fainted on the spot. Stood in front of him was his dear cousin Merry, the very same hobbit that had haunted his thoughts and dreams for the past five years.
********************************************************
“Merry…what…how…”
“Is that any way to greet your old Merry”?
“I’m sorry, I just…just”
Mariella took her head out from Pippin’s neck and whispered
“Daddy who is it”
“He’s Daddy’s cousin Mariella”
He put her down on the ground
“Run along to your bedroom please”
“Yes Daddy” she replied before taking off for the hobbithole.
“I think you and me need a long talk,” Merry said
Pippin nodded
“Aye, I suppose we do”
After a few more words Pippin retreated into his hole to get some ale and food for merry, he had obviously come a long way. Pippin sat down outside with Merry and handed him a mug.
“It’s good to see you again Pippin” Merry said
“You too”
“Why Pippin, why did you disappear, whose child is that, why…”?
“Wait Merry, please, only one question at a time, though I will tell you both in one answer”
Merry sat back eagerly awaiting Pippin’s explanation.
“Well my sister Pearl ran into some trouble, she fell with child and had the desire to keep it. We couldn’t give it to anyone else and I heard tale that they were planning to…you know, so I made off with the babe in the night and I haven’t been back since, it’s as simple as that”
“And you did all that for a baby”
“And I would do it again” Pippin insisted, “she’s a beautiful child, I love her dearly”
“Obviously more than you love me” Merry sulked “Did all our years together mean that little to you Pippin, you didn’t even say goodbye. Did you know I have spent these past five years looking for you and if I’d known you were so close to home then it wouldn’t have taken me as long”
“Oh Merry I…I do love you…it’s just…”
“I don’t believe you” Merry said slamming his mug down “Why didn’t you come and tell me any of this, I’m your cousin, I love you dearly I could have helped you…oh Pippin I’ve missed you so much, I missed holding you in my arms, I missed the fun we used to have, but most of all I miss those long nights and the words we’d whisper in each other’s ear”
“Oh Merry”
Pippin broke down into sobs, he loved Merry more than anyone other than Mariella, and now him being here brought all those feelings flooding back. Now Merry was here Pippin wasn’t sure if he could let him go again. It was either that or tell him the truth. However the truth could push Merry away all together and Pippin couldn’t take that risk. Then he looked on the hobbits face and saw the pain in his eyes, it had been five year, five long years for both of them and now neither had the desire to leave the others sight again. Finally Pippin folded.
“Merry, I am so sorry”
“What is it dear Pippin”
Merry reached forward and pulled Pippin into his embrace
“I lied to you Merry, I lied. Mariella isn’t my sisters child”
“What do you mean Pip”
“She’s mine, she’s ours”
Merry let go of Pippin and starred confused into his green eyes
“Merry, I know it seems impossible, and I don’t know how it happened but after we made love I fell with child”
“Oh Pippin”
Merry leaned back, trying hard not to pass out from complete shock
“Why didn’t you tell me”?
“I was scared Merry, I couldn’t. I was afraid you’d think I was unnatural, I was afraid you wouldn’t want me anymore, and I couldn’t ask you to give up your way of life for me”
merry pulled Pippin back into his arms and crushed a hard kiss to his lips
“You silly wonderful fool of a Took, how could you think that”?
Merry stared harshly into Pippin’s green orbs
“I would die for you Peregrin Took, I would have stood by you, Hell I would have come out here with you, it’s beautiful here”
“Oh but Merry we’ve wasted so much time”
“But Pippin we have all the time in the world left now my love”
“You mean…”
“If you ask me to, I will stay here with you, you must get lonely and don’t you think that child has the right to know her other parent”
“But how do you suggest we explain it to her”
“I don’t know, we’ll tell her in the morning I suppose”
Pippin’s eyes lit up
“So you’re staying”
“Wild horses could not drag me away”
Pippin threw his arms around Merry, threatening to crush the life out of him
“Oh Merry I missed you so much”
“Me too Pippin, me too”
