Author: Aithilin(nimcuran_aithilin@hotmail.com)

Rating: R

Pairing: surprise

Summary: Sequel to 'Black Moon', the Quest.

Disclaimer: Not mine, never will be. I own the characters you don't see in the books.

A/N: bleh, I wrote this in the beginning of a heat wave, so if my brain fries during any of this fic, blame it on the weather. Who knew Canada could get so hot? It's like...40 Celcius here.

Anyway, the continuation of Black Moon, mostly book cannon, with the exception of my little creations.

Legolas bowed before Elrond, placing a hand over his heart in respect. "My father sends his regrets that he could not attend the Council. I have been sent in his stead if that is satisfactory."

The Master of Imladris nodded, "Of course it is acceptable, Prince Legolas. You are welcome here, and to attend the Council. Your father's letter spoke of news you carried?"

"Yes, though I fear I do not bring fair tidings."

Elrond motioned for Legolas to continue. "Six months ago, Mithrandir entrusted the creature, Gollum, to the care of my father's guard. When the creatwas was brought to the forest a few weeks ago, a large band of orcs attacked and killed the guards. We do not know if they took Gollum, or if he ran off. He has not been found."

"Have you spoken to Gandalf?"

"No."

"This is a matter with him as well, I trust you will try to find him before the Council in the morning?"

Legolas nodded, "Of course."

"Good. This may be news for the Council as well. Until then, please, rest, you have had a long journey. There is food and song in the Hall of Fire if you'd care to join others. If not, the kitchens would still be open to prepare a plate for you."

Legolas bowed again, "Thank you Master Elrond."

Elrond nodded and smiled, dismissing Legolas. As the young Elf left the study, he saw Gandalf just coming in.

"Legolas! A surprise to see you. I expected your father to be joining us in the Council."

"He could not make it. Unfortunately, ill tidings that concern Gollum haven sen sent with me."

"Mm? Well, speak of them now."

Legolas sighed, "The creature escaped, with the aid, intentionally or not, of a band of orcs."

Gandalf's face darkened, "That is ill indeed. But no worry to yourself, Legolas, save what details you have for the morrow. Now, I must speak with Lord Elrond, if you'll excuse me."

The Elf stepped out of the wizard's path and continued on his own. He could hear the excitment from the Hall of Fire long before he reached the doors, and halted, unsure if he wished to be around so many others.

"Legolas!"

The familiar voice and scent told Legolas it was one of the twins, though there were three distinct sets of footsteps, and one scent was deffinately female.

Elrohir smiled and stopped two feet from the blonde. His twin accompanied him, as did a stunningly beautiful she-Elf. Legolas smiled in greeting, "It is good to see you, Elladan, Elrohir."

"And do not forget our dear sister, the Lady Arwen," Elladan said, grinning. "We have just rescued her from a boring old meeting with her 'beloved'."

Arwen hit her brother's arm and curtsied to Legolas, "A pleasure, Legolas. My brothers have told me quite a bot about you. It seems that you have charmed them."

Legolas smiled, "I would love to know what has been said about me. And I am grateful to have this chance to meet the Lady Undomiel."

Arwen gave him a grin, one that almost matched her brothers'. "I have heard quite interesting tales, it seems that one of my brothers is quite ta-"

Elladan had placed a hand over Arwen's mouth and winked at Elrohir. "Isn't it time for you to go find Aragorn and woo himt alt all ladylike, and such?"

Arwen glared at her brother, "Unfortunately, it is. I hope to speak with you again, Legolas. Perhaps finish what I was ~going~ to say."

Legolas watched all this with an amused look and nodded. "I look forward to it, Lady."

Elrohir slung an arm around Legolas' shoulders, "Now, tell us everything that has happened, and you must promise to tell us of the Council."

"You two will not be attending?"

Elladan shook his head, "Our father believes that we will not behave in such company. And once the Council is over, and whatever decision reached, we will be required to return to normal duties of finding clear paths and killing orcs. Quite a boring life, really."

"I'm sure."
