The Rain Maker

Erector watch with growing concern and frustration as the vendor tried to sell Glorfindel a golden broach that he claimed could control the weather. This was not the first time this tradesman had taken advantage of Glorfindel, but it seems that Glorfindel still had not learned to not trust the man. One would think that when the man sold him the old horse that he claimed could fly on full moons that Glorfindel would have learned his lesson, or the time the man sold him the necklace that he claimed could help you see the future if you sit on the east side of a river flowing north on the third day of the new moon after the first snow fall of the year. But no Glorfindel steal believe that the objects could do the things and brought them. Erestor continued to listen as the man explained to Glorfindel that if he held the broach up to the northern sky as the sun rose over the eastern horizon and jumped on one foot while saying “we need rain” that he could make it rain. Erestor shook his head as he walked up to the table of the swindler, picking up the broach Erestor said, “I think I would have use of this. The crops had needing a good rain all season.” Erestor held the broach up to the sky and asked, “So all I need to do is jump on one foot and say we need rain?” no sooner then the words were out of Erestor’s mouth did the lighting flash across the sky as the sound of thunder clap. Soon the drops of water started hitting the table.

Before one could blink the man grabbed the broach saying that he just remember that he had promised the broach to another. Erestor grabbed Glorfindel hand as he started to walk away saying maybe next time. It was all he could do to keep from laugh as he heard the man saying as they walked away “we need rain”. He just hoped Elrond would forgive this one occurrence of his misuse of Vilya power while he had entrusted her care to him.
