Home Coming:
Chapter 1:

David ran his hand through his shaggy reddish-blonde hair, grateful that the last of his press junket for The Proposition was finally completed. Sighing long while he looked out the plane’s window, on his way to New York City. He barely glanced at the newest script on his lap; his agent had agreed with him that this script for a science fiction movie was a different approach in his career. Not that he was complaining for the majority of work in his native country since it paid the bills and most importantly it kept him and ex-girlfriend, Kate Agnew close to their child, Eliza Jane.

Dave glanced over his shoulder to check up on Elijah, whom was slumped over in his seat, catching a few zzz’s. He couldn’t blame his friend, after all; it is a long trip from England and Elijah had looked like he hadn’t slept in weeks since Dave received his phone call a few days ago.

The call caught him at a busy time with all the fan-faire in Australia, and with some of it in England. Hell, he wasn’t Viggo but this movie had a lot of promise, he kept his fingers crossed. The American public didn’t always go for a good western these days but who can blame them? Anyway, Dave broke off those nervous thoughts to refocus on Lij, with his piercing bright blue eyes closed at this moment in some form of sleep. He nearly missed the call, if it wasn’t for the fact he wanted to pack the latest photos of his daughter.

His assistant, Robin came around the corner with his mobile phone in her hand, “Dave, its Frodo on the phone, he sounds upset. Best you take this now and someplace without hearing Eliza’s chattering.” She said, handing him the phone and motioning him into the bedroom for the silence, away from the current loud singing of the Alphabet Song; he smiled at her and walked into his bedroom.

“Hey Elij’ what’s new with you?” Dave asked, hearing only silence on the other end of the phone. “Elijah? You there mate? Talk to me.”

“Dave, could I spend…” Elijah broke off; Dave could hear a stifled hitch in the younger man’s voice, “Could I spend some time with you? I can’t face life here right now.”

“I’m on my way to Cannes, got a film to showcase out there. Where are you?” He asked him.

“I’m also in France after wrapping up my own movie, Everything Is Illuminated. I-I won’t be a pest, I just want some private time, without the world watching.”

“I hear you mate. Sure, I have no problems with it. After Cannes, I’m off to the States…New York City, got me a new script to look over and get a feel for the character.” He explained.

“Which script?” Elijah inquired softly.

“It’s called Destiny, some sci-fi flick,” Dave shrugged, while he looked through a pile of photo’s to take with him. He smiled at the one of his daughter making silly faces that they caught on film. “Ever heard of it?”

“Actually, this works out…I’ve also got a copy. I thought it was an interesting script, so the least we can do is go over it together.”

“Sure, my agent found me some place in The Village, hopefully it will be quiet. I could use the rest, and I’m sure your thinking the same.” He found the photos he wanted, placing them in his breast pocket of his jacket and making certain they wouldn’t get crushed.

“Exactly, thanks again man, I really appreciate this.” A relieved Elijah expressed.

“No problems mate, let me ring off before I’m later than I wanted to be. We’ll catch up in England. Have a good one Elijah.”

At a later quiet moment, the Australian wondered what kind of break he would be getting with the news he learned from Elij. What most people didn’t know, and very few fortunate people did, was that Elijah and Sean Astin were a couple until recently. The story was as old as Hollywood itself—any couple wanting to be together but can’t due to the conflicts in their working schedules.

Dave had heard the whispering rumours—Sean was very busy for the next few years, while Elijah had slightly more time on his hands. Unfortunately, their crazy schedules worked against them, the young couple couldn’t get more than a few days and weeks of personal time with each other and in the heat of anger and frustration, Sean broke things off.

Devastated, Elijah couldn’t find the peace he needed without wanting someone to keep an eye out for him. He knew his fellow Trilogy stars were busy with their own lives and movies; it was plain luck that he called and caught Dave at that moment.
