A/N. I do not usually do Songfic like this but this one had been in my head since I first heard this song. It started to haunt my dreams so I figured it was time to get it down on paper.

A/N2.. Please be advised this is a short fic with a song from modern times thrown in. If you do not approve of this then read no further, you have been warned.

Eleniel, as usual had chosen to sit alone during the evening meal. She had plenty of friends or her family she could sit with. When she was alone she could watch peacefully and allow her self to think of whatever it was she wished. However, her thoughts often drifted towards Glorfindel.
She, as many other ellith, always enjoyed watching him, talking with him and sneaking a peek at him whenever possible. More then once she had managed to talk her way out of an embarrassing situation when she had tried to get a peek and gotten caught. Since then, she was more careful when choosing a time to have a look.

Growing up, Eleniel had many chances to see Glorfindel. Her father had served as one of his captains and the two would sometimes sit in their family den and discuss how things were at the border and what could be done about them. There had been many nights she would fall asleep with her head in her father’s lap as she quietly listened to them talk. She had always wondered how a fierce warrior, such as Glorfindel could have such a soothing and calming voice. As she became older she had often sat outside while her father spoke with him, even then she could hear him talk, To this day she would always find herself relaxing whenever she heard his voice.

She glanced over at the main table when she heard a deep laugh, she knew even before she saw him that the laugh had been his. She could not keep from smiling to herself as she watched him, only to look away quickly when Elladan had caught her watching. He was the only one who knew of how she felt for Glorfindel. Whether he had told his twin, she did not know. She finished her meal quickly and then left the dining hall but not before she took another look over her shoulder at Glorfindel. She gave him a gentle smile as she saw him looking her way then hurried through the doors before he could see her blush. Had she looked again she would have seen Elladan’s smile as he leaned over and spoke quietly to Elrohir.

Glorfindel, however had not missed this and arched an eyebrow at the twins.
“ it is a nice night” Elladan said casually towards Glorfindel.” Perhaps even the perfect night for star gazing from one’s balcony”
Elrohir bit back a grin as he agreed with the older twin. He took the time to take another bite of his food before he to, looked over at Glorfindel
“ One never knows what can be heard on such a night.” He added
Glorfindel merely narrowed his eyes at the two of them. He knew them well enough to know when they were up to something.
“Perhaps” Was the only reply he gave them as he finished his meal and excused himself from their company.
Elrond watched him leave then looked over at his twin sons. Their innocent look had ceased to affect him many years ago.
“ Would this have anything to do with the fact that Eleniel can usually be heard singing from her balcony on nights such as this?” He questioned them.
“Perhaps.” Was the reply he received form them both. He merely shook his head as he watched them take their leave as well.

Eleniel had made her way back to her chambers. She had taken her own room just a few short years ago, leaving her parents the privacy they deserved. She sat on the edge of her bed as his mind drifted to Glorfindel once more. He had been hurt recently, not physically but emotionally. For two years, she had watched him as he had courted an ellith she knew. The ellith had given him the attention for a while until she had met another elf. Eleniel had head later from Elladan that the night Glorfindel had meant to propose to the ellith was the same night she had left him, leaving the realm to live her life elsewhere. She had not seen Glorfindel with any ellith since, putting all his effort and time into keeping Imladris safe. She could still feel the jealousy she had felt whenever she saw them together. The far away dreamy look in Glorfindel’s eyes as he sat with his arms around the ellith. Eleniel had wanted to be the one in his arms but she had never worked up the nerve to tell him. Instead, she just kept her distance and admired him secretly.

Now, she was not sure she stood more of a chance then she had before. He was still hurting from what she could see. She wanted to be with him but wanted not to be just someone that he would be using to ease his pain. She wanted him to want to be with her. Though this would never happen if she kept her feelings a secret but she had yet to find the nerve to tell him. Sighing softly, she went to enjoy a warm bath, letting her mind clear of anything other then the soft aroma of the bath oils. After spending some time brushing out her long hair, she dressed in a light nightdress and stepped out onto her balcony. She loved nights like this. A warm gentle breeze reaching he as she looked up and could see almost every star in the sky. She longer to share moments like this in her life, to help fill the loneliness she felt almost every waking hour of the day. Closing her eyes she as she felt the breeze against her face she started to him a gentle tune, knowing the music in her would soon take over.

Glorfindel sighed as he paced his room. He wondered if it would be another sleepless night for him. It had been since the night she had left. His mind and his body were exhausted yet he pushed himself to continue his duty. His heart was what would not let him rest, he could not stand to face the empty feeling he felt while laying in his bed alone. When he tried, all he would think about was her, where she was or what she was doing. This always led to what she was doing with him. Elladan’s word came to mind when he felt the slight breeze though his open balcony doors. The twins had been telling him something. What exactly it was he was not sure. He was sure of one thing, they had wanted him on his balcony. He almost did not give in at first but his curiosity got the best of him and he made his way through the doors. He chuckled as he looked up and could see the stars. Elladan had been right so far, it was a sight to see.

A few minutes passed when a soft sound reached his ears. Tilting his head slightly to listen he heard the soft sound of someone humming gently. He looked around and could not see anyone but he could hear them clearly now. It was a soft soothing sound and he found himself drawn to it. He closed his eyes to listen more when the soft hum changed into soft singing and he lost himself in the sound of the gentle voice, quietly listening to the lyrics.

~“Anytime you feel like you just can’t hold on
Just hold on to my love and I’ll help you be strong
But you’re so afraid to lose, and baby I can’t reach your heart
I can’t face this world that’s keeping us apart
When I can be the one to show you
Everything you missed before
Just hold on now, cause I could be the one to give you more”

Anytime you need love baby I’m on your side (hey)
Just let me be the one I can make it alright (I can make it alright)
Anytime you need love baby you're in my heart
I can make it alright” ~

Glorfindel could do nothing other than listen. He knew now that Elladan had wanted him to hear but not sure why. He did not know who was singing either but the voice sounded vaguely familiar. He felt as if he should know how it was. He searched his mind for any memory that would give a clue but he could come up with nothing. So why did he feel as if he knew how it was? He heard a movement on the balcony just above his and leaned over his railing to look up. He could see a glimpse of the ellith above him. It came to him suddenly who it was, Eleniel. He had heard her sing as a child when he would visit with her father. Even then he had enjoyed her voice. It would seem that as she grew her voice had as well.
‘if this is her song’ he thought to himself ‘ then of who does she sing?’
Not wanting to disturb her, he stood back slightly, tilting his head once more as she continued to sing

~” I look into your eyes, and I feel it coming through
And I can’t help but want you more than I want to
So baby take all of your fears, and cast them all on me
'Cause all I ever wanted was just to make you see
That I could be the one to give you
All that you’ve been searching for
Just hold on to my love, and baby let me give you more
You know, anytime

Anytime you need love baby I’m on your side (I'm on your side)
Just let me be the one I can make it alright (I can make it alright)
Anytime you need love baby you're in my heart
I can make it alright”~

Unable to resist his need to know, Glorfindel wanted to go up to her room. At the same time he did not wish to stop hearing her sing. Looking up when he heard her step back on her balcony, he decided there was only one way to accomplish both. He gave a small jump and reached up to grip the bottom of her balcony. Pulling himself up easily, he leapt onto her balcony, landing quietly behind her as she had just turned around. He stood in place as she walked slowly back towards the door of her balcony. He tilted his head as she placed one hand against the frame and continued her song .

~ “And now there’s no way out
And I can’t help the way I feel
'Cause baby you’re the fire and I’ll be waiting right here
You know my love is real.”~

Eleniel would have finished the rest, however she had turned and stopped when she saw him, the very object of her desire was standing on her balcony, watching her, listening.
“ Who is this song for?” Glorfindel asked as he stepped closer.
“ why are you here?” Was all she could think to reply. When she took a step back, Glorfindel followed her
“ Answer me, Eleniel.” Glorfindel said, calmly “ to who do you sing?”
Looking over her shoulder, Eleniel briefly considered fleeing her room, finding a safe place to hide until Glorfindel would forget what he wanted to know. She froze when she saw the look in his eyes.
“Eleniel.” Glorfindel arched an eyebrow slightly, stepping even closer.” Who is this song meant for?” he asked again.
Closing her eyes briefly, Eleniel knew this may be her only chance. If she did not say anything now, she may never be able to later.
“ You.” She replied so softly, she was not even sure he had heard her. The look in his eyes told her different.

Glorfindel had moved up directly in front of her. He was not too surprised to hear her soft reply. They way she had avoided answering at first had made him think it was meant for him. He was not sure what to say in reply to her now and she looked like she was ready to turn and run.
Slowly he reached over and tilted her head up, getting her to look at him finally. He arched his eyebrow slightly at the way she blushed softly and could not resist running the tips of his fingers along her cheek.
His former lover had loved to sing as well. However in the years they had been together she sang for others, never for him or to him.
“Finish it.” He said quietly, wanting to hear the rest, wanting to watch her as she finished the song. He saw her hesitate and gave her a gentle smile.” Please.”
Eleniel was not sure she could, not with him standing before her life this. His hand was still resting against her cheek as he pulled back slightly as she realized she had been leaning into it. She almost said no, that she could not do this. It was the look in his eyes that made her give in. She could tell he really wanted to hear the rest and not just to humor her. She gave him a small nod in reply. She melted when she saw him smile and when he kissed her briefly, she could not think straight. With a deep breath, she stepped back just a bit, her eyes locked on his as she finished what she had started.

~ “Anytime you need love baby I’m on your side, you know
Just let me be the one I can make it alright (I can make it all, make it all, make it alright)
Anytime you need love baby you're in my heart
I can make it alright,

Anytime you need love baby I'm on your side (I'm on your side)
Just let me be the one (let me be the one let me be the one let me be the one alright)
Anytime you need love baby you're in my heart (you're in my heart)
I can make it alright”~

Glorfindel silently watched her as she finished the song for him, this time singing to him not just for him. He saw the look in her eyes when she was done and something clicked in his mind. In the past with his former lover he had always wished to see the same look Eleniel was giving him now, he had never found it before. He realized now it had been the one thing that was always missing, the one thing he had always wanted. Without speaking a single word, Glorfindel reached for her and brought her into his arms. He could feel her shaking slightly and offered her a reassuring smile.
“It has been in front of me all along and I have not seen this until now.” He whispered softly, lowering his head and kissing her tenderly.
He had no idea where this would lead between them. He just knew there was no way he could walk from her when she looked at him that way. He chuckled lightly when she blushed softly and looked away. When she looked at him again, he could see the same look in her eyes and he knew then that it was a look he would do anything to see each time.

~Not too many years later~

Glorfindel was pulled from his thoughts suddenly; he turned his head to see Elladan grinning at him.
“ You plan to spend you wedding night sitting here with that dreamy look in your eye?” The older twin teased
“ You know the answer to that.” Glorfindel chuckled, turning back to watch as Eleniel was lead slowly across the dance floor by Elrond. He never grew tired of watching her in whatever she was doing. He gave her a loving smile when his new bride looked his way.
They had their share of problems when their relationship had started. Eleniel had been patient as he had taken some time to get over the hurt he had felt. She had always been there when he had needed her. When his former lover returned, wanting him back and claiming she had made a mistake, Glorfindel had chosen Eleniel. When her father had been killed at the borders, he had spent days with her in the room. It had been then he had realized he wanted to be there for her as much as she was for him. Only a few months had passed before he had asked her to marry him.
“ I do believe this is who you are waiting for>” Elrond grinned and he passed Eleniel’s hand into Glorfindel’s
“ My entire life.” Glorfindel replied before he wrapped his arms around his wife. Neither of them had noticed as Elrond walked away.
“ My lord.” Lindir made his way to them. “It is within your right to request any song you wish.” He said, offering them both a smile
“ I know of one I would like to hear.” Glorfindel said, looking only at Eleniel as he spoke.” However, with no offence to you, Lindir, there is only one I wish to hear sing it.”
Eleniel smiled up at him before he kissed her softly, enjoying the feel of his hand in her hair.
Lindir grinned, having expected this as he had known of their song. The twins had wasted no time in telling everyone of the night Eleniel was heard that night with Glorfindel. With a slight bow, he back away from the couple and left them alone.
“ Sing for me, Eleniel.” Glorfindel whispered quietly.” Sing our song,” he added, kissing her again softly.
Eleniel smiled up at him, her hand playing in his hair. She could feel herself melting as she looked into his eyes and nodded gently
“ For you.” She replied, stepping back slightly but kept one hand in his. Loving the way he watched her, the way he smiled at her. “ Anytime”
