“Why Elladan?”
Elladan merely shrugged and turned to finish putting away his clothes without reply.
Elrohir caught his shoulder, pulling him around forcibly to face him.
“You will tell me why, brother,” the last worf was spit out with such venom that Elladan held his breath for a moment to stare at his enraged twin, “you will tell me why,” he glared, then those grey eyes softened, “I need to understand, Elladan,” he pleaded, “I need to know.”
“I do not know Elrohir, I do not know.”
Elrohir stilled the hand that pulled the last of the clothing from the bag. His fingers bit into the flesh of his brother’s wrist. “Not good enough Elladan, I deserve more than that.”
With those words Elladan slumped to the floor, head in hands, openly weeping. “You do Elrohir, you do, yet I have none to offer……nothing that would excuse what I have done to you, nor that would be worthy of your forgiveness.”
Elrohir knelt beside his stricken brother, holding him as if he were the only thing in this world that would save him from the abyss he felt them both sliding toward. He rocked the limp body back and forth. “Ask me to forgive you.”
Elladan looked up, his vision unfocused. “Would you?”
Elrohir did the only thing he could do. “Yes Elladan, I can.” He kissed his lover softly, their lips pressed together, the salt of their tears reminding them of their sorrow. “If you cannot tell me why, then perhaps you can tell me how,” he whispered tenderly.
