Prologue
“Finish it,” he begged in gasping breaths, the pain becoming worse and his thoughts broken.
“Please don’t ask me to do this, I cannot, ernilen,” the young warrior replied, tears falling down his face. He could not kill the prince, he did not have the courage.
“I will not make it back to the halls, please, if you have any mercy, you will finish it.” His hands were partially covering the gaping hole the orc blade left in his stomach, but he was dying, nothing would help him.
The young elf took his knife in his hand and plunged it into his prince’s heart, ending his pain and his life.

“NO!” Elladan’s keening wail resounded through the halls of the Last Homely House and he fell to his knees with the message still in his hand. Tears ran down his cheeks as his hands balled into fists. “He is dead, he is dead.”
Elrond was the first to reach him and wrapped his arms around his distraught son, Elrohir arrived seconds later.
“Ada, he is dead, Legolas is dead,” he said, concealing his face in his father’s robes.
“He can’t be,” Elrohir said in disbelief. “It isn’t true, it can’t be.” He fell to his knees next to his brother and leaned against him, offering and seeking succor from the staggering news concerning their friend.
Elrond sighed sadly and looked down at the message Elladan was holding. “Let me see the message ion nin,” he said, taking it from his eldest son’s hand. “It is from Thranduil, there was an orc attack and he was seriously injured. I am sorry, my sons, there has already been an observance and he is gone. There is no need to even journey there.”

Chapter One
//”You will pay for that Legolas,” Elladan said, running from the house after his friend. He had been too busy talking to realize that Legolas was leading him into a trap and when he opened his door, the bucket fell down and soaked him. Of course the Mirkwood prince had taken off running then. He could hear his laughter in the distance and swore if he caught him he wouldn’t be laughing for long.
“You can never catch me, you know that, Elladan, give up,” he yelled, his blond hair flying behind him like the sun.
“Keep running, wood elf, I will chase you all the way back to Mirkwood and…..” He stopped chasing him, there was no use. Legolas had won this round and the best Elladan could hope for was to plot for revenge and pay him back, somehow, someway.
Legolas looked behind him and saw the twin was no longer chasing him. He slowly stopped running and looked back at him, smiling. “Giving up so easily?”
“You have to come back to the manor sometime, you know?” He looked at the mirth dancing in his friend’s cerulean eyes and had to smile.
They were concentrating so much on the other that neither one of them heard Elrohir. He jumped from the trees and tackled Legolas to the ground. “I have the imp, Elladan, come on, I will hold him until you get here!”
There was no missing the mischievous smile on Elladan’s face as he approached the prince and his laughing brother. “You will pay for it now, mellonen.”
“This isn’t fair,” Legolas screamed, laughing too hard to try to get away. “Get off Elrohir!”
“Hold him, toren. I’m going to teach him a lesson.” Elladan made fast work of the prince’s boots and leggings and had Elrohir hold his legs while he pulled his tunic from him. “Now, make it back to the manor without anyone seeing you!”
“Elladan! You can’t mean this, give me my leggings,” Legolas said, as the twins turned and headed back to the manor. “Elladan! Elladan!”//
“Elladan, were you listening to me,” asked Celebrian, shaking him.
“I am sorry, nana, what did you say,” he asked, shaking his head to clear it. “My mind was wondering.”
“I have been calling you for five minutes.” She ran her hand over his shoulder and sat down beside him. “You miss him, don’t you?”
Elladan sighed morosely. “More than I thought I would. I think of him now more than I ever did. I think, I always thought we would have more time with him.”
“I know,” she said sympathetically, moving his hair over his shoulder. “Sometimes it is hard to deal with what the Valar have in store for us. You have been far too sullen in the past few weeks. I know he was your friend, but he was Elrohir’s, as well, and he is handling this much better than you are. Is there something you want to talk about, ion?”
“I don’t know,” Elladan said, turning his face away from his mother. “What good would it do to talk about it, he is gone and there is nothing we can do about it. Nothing I will say will bring him back, no matter how much I wish it.”
“No, we cannot bring him back, but his memory will always be in our hearts. Take comfort in that, Elladan, and that you will see him again, when we sail.”
“I cannot live that long with this heartache, nana,” he said, turning so she could see the tears in his eyes. “I realized something too late, something I should have told him the last time I saw him. I love him, I love him with all my heart and now he is gone.”
