Power of Love
Power of Love
Pairing: Twins
Summary: Love can conquer all
Rating: PG
Disclaimer: The elves belong to their chief storyteller.
I am dying. I have no need to see the haunted look in my father’s eyes to know. Nor do I need to look upon my brother. My beautiful brother. We both know my fate is his though I wish it were not so. I would petition the Valar if I thought they would listen to my pleas. But it would serve no purpose. I could no more live without him than he could live without me. We are tied by much more than the love we share for each other, much more even by the bonds of our twin birth. So very few can call us by our given names and know to whom they speak, they are closer to the truth of us than they imagine.
I bite my lip to stifle the pain that courses through my body, the burn I feel as the poison travels in my blood. Given time the knife wound would heal to leave little reminder of the chance encounter, but the murderous bane takes that time away from me. Ada has scoured the lore for a solution and there is no blame that none can be found. My brother has crossed the lands seeking the old knowledge and those who practice it and returned with empty hands.
Time holds little meaning to the First Born, yet with each breath I take I am closer to the end of eternity. He holds out his hand to me, his beautiful face streaked with tears. He threads his fingers through mine, smiling as we both recall the same memory. The first time we looked into each other’s eyes and knew. We saw there the depth of our love, the purity of it, the union of our souls as we made love for that first time.
The rings we wear press together, they will not be removed from our fingers. He looks to our father as he climbs onto the bed, our bed and kisses me. I feel his hot tears on my cheek, his hand caresses the damp strands of my hair. I feel his breath, warm and alive and I shudder at such a thought that I will not feel this again. I hold him to me, so tightly that the breath is drawn from us both. The light changes and I wonder if this is the end. It is so very bright that I look away unable to bear it. There is a coldness I have never encountered and the light dims to darkness. Then there is nothing, no sound penetrates my hearing, no scent to breath, no illumination for my eyes. Yet I know he is with me, that I will never walk alone, he will always be with me. Always with me, always.
The air smells as the rain on a summer day, fresh and clean, there is the gentle call of songbirds and a soft flicker of golden light. There is a familiar voice laughing, well known arms embracing. Focusing on what surrounds me my body feels strong, well, and soon I am laughing with my brother.
There is no explanation needed as I sit and watch my brother fire the arrows unerringly to their target. We were granted a renewed life to be with each other. Perhaps the Valar had looked upon us and smiled.
