Promises Made: Legolas/ Elladan
Promises made
Pairing: Elladan and Legolas
Rating : PG in early chapters, NC17 later
Disclaimer: The elves are Tolkien’s. The original story lines comes from Min’s depiction of the relationship between Elladan and Legolas
Summary: There is a promise made between two elves that will reverberate throughout their lives.
“I promise.”
“I promise too,” the young one announced excitedly, wrapping small arms around the larger elf. Satisfied with the vow made he ran back to where the party waited to leave. His father placed him on the horse as he raised his hand to wave goodbye.
“Remember, you promised,” he called.
“I will remember.”
“And what is it you will remember brother?”
Elladan waved back before answering, smiling at the blond head that bobbed up and down on the horse as he strained to catch one last look.
“We promised to love each other always.”
“A bold proclamation.”
Elladan laughed softly as the horses turned and the little one almost fell as he leaned over, caught by his father who positioned him upright in front of him. With an arm around his brother’s shoulder, Elladan walked back up the steps.
“He is very young, it will easily be forgotten in the joys of growing and the finding of new things.”
Elrohir looked back a moment, the small head still trying to turn to garner as much as he could of the view behind.
“I wonder,” he murmured quietly, “I wonder.”
The letters came regularly and Elladan dutifully replied to each, relating his own adventures and daily activities as he saw best would entertain the growing prince. Elladan in turn delighted in reading the little one’s letters, but was not surprised when the frequency dwindled to a mere trickle, then stopped altogether. In the last of the letters that Elladan, much to the amusement of Elrohir, kept tied in a silver ribbon in the drawer near his bed, the young one had mentioned, almost with embarrassment a new friend. The last letter related the prince’s training, filled with references to the elf.
“See?” Elladan held up the letters that had recently arrived from the Greenwood. There was none from Legolas. “He has found growing up more exciting.”
Elrohir merely nodded. “Perhaps,” he half heartedly agreed with much conviction.
“Elrohir, I am merely a footnote now in his life, too far away and much older. He has found a companion who suits him better.”
“It sounds an argument for your own ears Elladan.”
Elladan laughed then thought about the last letter before his gaze scanned the outside world, to the hills and beyond. “Perhaps,” he agreed softly, “perhaps.”
