~~~Erestor’s POV~~~
One of the most amazing, wonderful things of my life happened, and while I was on vacation no less.
Glorfindel, my long term lover, and I were on vacation. The first we had ever taken together. We had been together for many years, and yet we had never been able to get away with each other. We went to one of my favorite places, Minas Tirith. I know that very few elves like the hustle and bustle of the huge, human city. However, I am drawn to it. It’s a city that never sleeps, day and night there are open stalls in the market, delicious restaurants in which to savor tastes from all over the world, and games of chance in illustrious buildings with glittering lights. It’s crazy, somewhat cheesy, and I love it.
My lover and I arrived late in the afternoon and meandered slowly through the streets to the villa we had rented out while we were in the city. It wasn’t the classiest of accommodations, but it had what I really, really wanted: a private hot spring.
It was the second night we were in Minas Tirith, we were sitting in our villa, simply relaxing after a full day of exploring the sights. I was reading an old book, one I could have quoted word for word but I still read it again I loved it so much. Glorfindel sat at my feet, simply relaxing.
I felt a tapping on my leg. “Psst,” I heard from the vicinity of my knee.
I simply ignored the warrior perched by my leg.
“PSSSSST,” came again from my lover as he shook my leg violently.
Exasperated, I put my book down and raised my eyebrow at Glorfindel. He smiled and said in a sweet, little sing-song voice, “Nooo-thiiiing.”
I picked up my book again and started reading. This was a normal occurrence with my lover. He would do this constantly: do everything to get my attention and then not want anything at all.
A few minutes later, the psst-ing and the shaking started again. With a sigh, I sat down my book and tilted my head at the blond below me. He smiled and held out his hand which was clutched around something. This, also, was a familiar game to me. Frequently, he would hold out his hand, acting as if it contained the world only for him to give me something as inane as a candy wrapper or a scrap of paper for me to throw away. He would always laugh as if it was the funniest thing in the world, and I humor him because…well…he’s just so cute.
This time was no different. I shook my head in amused irritation and held out my hand to receive whatever piece of scrap that I would need to throw away.
He opened his hand and dropped something small and surprisingly heavy into my palm. I looked at the object in my palm, my mind trying to wrap around what exactly I was seeing.
Suddenly, it dawned on me.
There was a ring in my hand.
A silver ring.
With a big frigging shiny stone attached to it.
I looked down from the ring in my hand to the warrior at my feet. The warrior with a big, shit-eating grin on his face.
The first thing out of my mouth was, “You sneaky bastard!”
He laughed and hugged me. From there, the next several minutes were a blur of laughing, hugging and kissing. Somehow, the ring ended up on my finger and I ended up on the floor. We stopped laughing long enough for him to say, “Oh, ya: Will you marry me?”
I nodded as I hugged him and laughed again.
We spent the rest of our vacation in a newly-engaged-haze. I wore my ring proudly, and we managed to find Glorfindel a silver ring that he really liked. We couldn’t stop smiling, or holding up our hands to flash the silver at each other.
As we returned home, I couldn’t help but wish this vacation would never end.
After all, I did just get engaged.
