“Master Erestor, here are today’s reports.”

“Master Erestor, Lord Elrond asked that these be done today.”

“Master Erestor, I need you to approve the menu for the celebration.”

“Master Erestor, you really must come and sort out this trouble.”

“Master Erestor, come quickly! There is a fire in the kitchens!”

“Master Erestor, there is a problem with the new shipment of books.”

“Master Erestor, I do not know what to do with these.”

“Master Erestor, will you help me with these?”

“Master Erestor, there is a trader from Gondor here to see you.”

“Master Erestor……….”

“Master Erestor……….”

It was that kind of a day…again. It started before Erestor had a chance to even break his fast, kept him from finding his midday meal, and ran him ragged all the day long. Erestor sank wearily into his chair, and his head dropped onto his desktop, cradled in his folded arms.

A sleek black cat leapt from the windowsill to the desk, sniffing at the dark hair that spread over the strewn papers. A black paw reached out to gently touch the elf’s head, and he meowed softly. Getting no response, he patted harder and meowed louder. Nothing. With feline grace, he bounded out through the window and flew to the barracks, black paws barely touching the ground as he ran.

Glorfindel was just finishing up his reports for the day and looking forward to joining a certain dark-haired elf for dinner, when the cat landed on his desk, meowing loudly.

“Hello, Tinnu. I am almost done, and then we will go.”

Tinnu meowed again.

“Yes, yes. In just a moment,” Glorfindel answered, not bothering to look up.

Tinnu meowed again and patted Glorfindel on the hand.

“In a moment, Tinnu.”

Tinnu’s meow became threatening, and he gripped Glorfindel’s quill in his mouth, causing the elf’s writing to run astray over the page.

“Tinnu! Stop that! Look what you’ve made me do!”

The cat sank his teeth into Glorfindel’s hand and leapt to the floor, taking the quill with him.

“Ouch! What are you doing?” The elf rubbed at his hand and glared at the cat.

Tinnu glared back at Glorfindel and meowed plaintively.

“Oh, all right, since you’re not going to let me finish anyway. What has gotten into you tonight?”

The cat waited to make sure that Glorfindel was following before scurrying outside. Every so often he would look back to make sure the elf was coming, and emit a low, rumbling, quivering meow, impatient that Glorfindel hadn’t figured it out yet.

As they drew closer to Tinnu’s goal, Glorfindel finally realized what the cat was trying to tell him and began to run. Passing elves quickly moved out of the way as the black cat and golden elf rushed by. Bursting into Erestor’s office, Glorfindel’s heart stopped for a moment as he saw the elf’s head on the desk. Gently lifting the exhausted elf in his arms, he whispered, “Come, Master Erestor, let me take care of you,” and bestowed a soft kiss on his beloved mate’s brow.

Erestor murmured in his exhausted sleep and wrapped an arm around Glorfindel’s neck, snuggling close.

Passing a surprised Elrond on the way to their rooms, Glorfindel glared at him. “Ten days. No more, Elrond. Erestor gets an assistant tomorrow, or I quit.”

Elrond swallowed guiltily, and then nodded, realizing his old teacher and mentor really was overburdened. He should have done something about it earlier. Was this really the tenth day that Glorfindel had found him exhausted in his office? Maybe one wasn’t enough. “Done. Master Erestor will have two assistants tomorrow.”

~~~*~~~
Glorfindel lapped a bit of red juice from Erestor’s mouth and looked down at his husband adoringly.
Erestor sighed with contentment and leaned back into Glorfindel’s arms as another strawberry was lifted to his mouth. He loved it when Glorfindel took care of him, and he was still awfully tired. “However did you get Elrond to agree to both of us taking the day off, Fin?”
Glorfindel chuckled. “I did not ask him – I told him. After all, my love, you *are* Master Erestor.”
A Gift of Silver
Erestor shook the box, grinning. “What is it?”
“Well, open it, silly.” Glorfindel responded, chuckling. They had celebrated Erestor’s begetting day in the Hall of Fire with their friends, and the councilor had received many wonderful gifts, but this one he had held back to give his husband when they were alone.
Erestor eyed the box and shook it again, leaning back comfortably in Glorfindel’s arms. “It is too small for a quill – and you’ve already given me one of those. It doesn’t shake like a bottle of my favorite ink. I know! It’s a new hairclip!”
“Not telling. You have to open it,” Glorfindel whispered in a pointed ear and tickled Erestor’s silky sides, laughing as his mate squirmed and giggled.
Tinnu jumped up on the bed and meowed at his elves. Sometimes his master and his master’s golden elf were very silly and undignified, but that sometimes meant it was playtime. And there was something shiny wrapped around the box his master held – and Tinnu wanted it.
Erestor giggled at the cat, and finally untied the ribbon on the box to wave it in front of Tinnu. Black paws grabbed the silver ribbon and scurried to the end of the bed with it. It was a dangerous snake, but Tinnu would save his master from it! His body was low to the bed, his tail flicked and his hindquarters shimmied back and forth to build momentum….and then he pounced! Killed it! Ha!
The elves laughed at the cat’s antics, and Glorfindel drew Erestor’s naked body closer onto his lap, all the better for his mouth to reach an exquisite ear tip.
Erestor shivered as a warm, moist tongue moved over his ear. “You are definitely distracting me, my love,” he whispered.
“Hmmm…..too bad,” Glorfindel growled low, grinning as Erestor shivered again. “Open. The. Box.” His mouth moved to lovingly caress an alabaster neck.
Erestor moaned softly and stretched his neck, and his eyes fluttered shut. He loved the feel of Glorfindel’s mouth on his neck. “Then you’d better stop that, or I will forget all about the box.”
“Box. Open. Now.” Glorfindel said huskily, tearing his mouth away from the luscious neck. “Open, open, open.”
Erestor grinned, and slowly lifted the wooden cover from the box. “Oh…Oh, my. It’s beautiful.” He carefully lifted the brooch from the box. Two silver rings were set together in a swirl of silver and diamonds. “Are those…?”
“Aye, love. They are. I never had a chance to give you a betrothal ring, but I wanted you to have one too, so I had them made into a brooch for you. Do you like it?”
“Oh, Glorfindel, it’s wonderful.” Erestor threw his arms around his mate and captured his mouth in a passionate kiss.
Tinnu looked at his elves and sighed as only a cat can sigh. They were going to do that “thing” again. His master’s new sparkly thing was even shinier than his ribbon, so he gave it a pounce to make sure it was dead, then lifting it in his mouth, carried it to the floor.
Some time later, the sound of something being batted across the floor finally registered in Erestor’s mind. Not that he could be bothered to find out what Tinnu was playing with. Not when Glorfindel’s mouth was so busily engaged on his neck again…
Elladan glanced over at Caladir as he sighed once again, then looked at his brother and smirked. It was Glorfindel and Caladir’s day to help the twins in keeping up with reviewing reports from their borders, preparing new guard schedules, and all the myriad of other duties once performed by Glorfindel and Caladir alone. Since the arrival of the elflings, however, the head of Imladris’ security and his second-in-command and turned much of their work over to the twins, and spent more than half of their time with their new families. Elladan and Elrohir frequently wondered how the other two had managed to keep up with the demands of the work for so many centuries.
“I wonder what Gurvelon is doing with the girls today,” Caladir mused. “Maybe they will be going for a picnic. The weather is perfect.”
“I will bet that Erestor is outside in the garden with the elflings. Probably rolling around on the ground with Faelion,” Glorfindel said. “The little one keeps trying to walk, and then falls on his bottom. He gets the funniest look of surprise on his face. So adorable. Tinnu keeps trying to break his fall and the poor cat gets crushed under a little elfling bum.” Glorfindel sighed.
Elrohir stifled a snicker, and then said, “Oh, go on, you two. You have helped us catch up a lot today. The rest can wait.”
Glorfindel and Caladir grinned, hastily tidied up their work, and were gone in a flash.
The golden lord crept through their rooms, knowing just where he would find his family – not that the laughter from the garden wouldn’t have told him anyway. Peeking around the heavy curtains at the window, he watched the elves he loved, his heart filling with contentment and warmth. Erestor was trying to get Faelion to walk as Gailion and Amdiriel played with Tinnu and Glirien’s kittens.
Erestor knelt on the ground, holding onto Faelion’s little hands as their elfling bounced in place. Letting go of the little hands, he crept back and said softly, “Come to Ada, sweetheart. You can do it,” and held his arms open. Tinnu hovered nervously.
Faelion squealed and waved his arms as he took a step towards Erestor. He teetered as he lost his balance, and began to fall.
Erestor gasped and reached for the elfling as he landed on top of the sleek black cat, quickly pulling him off of Tinnu and onto his lap. “Thank you, Tinnu,” he whispered. The cat shook himself, then moved off and began to put his fur in order again. Silly elfling. What was a cat to do?
Faelion crawled off of his Ada’s lap after the black cat. Erestor crawled behind him, looking for all the world like a giant Tinnu in his tight black leggings and tunic, the muscles in his pert behind and thighs rippling …Glorfindel stopped that line of thought, as it wouldn’t do at all in front of their elflings and might lead to questions he really didn’t think he was ready to answer. He grinned at the sight. Only his Erestor could move with such feline grace. Moving from behind the heavy curtains, he entered the garden and laughed as his two oldest children tackled him to the ground.
“We missed you, Ada Glor,” Amdiriel said, holding on to Glorfindel’s arm with both hands.
Gailion nodded, holding onto his Ada’s other arm. “Ada Restor has been trying to get Faelion to walk, but Tinnu keeps getting landed on. Are you back for good, Ada? Can you stay?”
“I am back for all day, my son,” Glorfindel said, finally freeing his arms and ruffling Gailion’s golden hair, so much like his own. “I missed you all so much this morning.” He pulled Amdiriel onto his lap and nuzzled her sweet-smelling auburn curls with his cheek. Looking over Amdiriel’s head, his eyes locked with Erestor’s. //Missed you too, Ada Restor. I love you.//
//I love you, Ada Glor.//
“What shall we all do for the rest of the day, my sweets?” Glorfindel asked. //Do you know how perfectly seductive you looked, crawling after Faelion? My big, black panther.//
Erestor purred in Glorfindel’s mind. “How about a picnic? I can bring our meal out here, and then after we eat maybe a game of tag?” //Which ought to wear our little darlings out and have them all ready for their afternoon nap. And then you can show me what a big golden lion you are, my love.//
Glorfindel growled seductively in Erestor’s mind. “What a wonderful idea! Would you like that, little ones?” When the elflings in his lap nodded, he placed a kiss on each little head and said, “Watch your little brother, sweethearts, and I will help Ada Restor, all right?”
“All right, Ada,” Gailion said, getting up and taking Faelion from Erestor. After their adas left, he smiled at Amdiriel. “Our Adas need some alone time.”
“Did you see the way Ada was looking at Ada Glor?” Amdiriel asked.*
“Or the way Ada was looking at Ada Restor?” Gailion countered.*
Amdiriel nodded. “We need to get tired really fast today.”
In the kitchen, a purring black panther kicked the door shut with his foot and pressed a willing and growling lion up against the wall, giving him just a taste of what feline delights awaited the elfling’s nap time.
~the end.
*No, there’s not a 3rd Ada. Amdiriel calls Erestor “Ada”, and Glorfindel “Ada Glor”. Gailion calls Glorfindel “Ada”, and Erestor “Ada Restor.”
Summary: It’s Glorfindel’s day to care for the elflings.
A/N: Written for the Lotrallslash Daily Drabble. 3-27-06 “Water”
Part of the “Enough for Tonight” universe. This is a little scene I've wanted to write for a long time.
The Bath
Glorfindel sang as he bathed little Faelion. The elfling laughed and splashed, and as unusual, it seemed that there was more water on the floor and on Glorfindel than on the elfling – not that his Ada Glor cared about that. He loved bathing Faelion, and after the elfling had discovered the mud in their garden, he certainly had needed a bath. Their little one was just over one year old, and was already running and talking like mad.
Neither Glorfindel nor Erestor could live with the idea of having their three elflings cared for by others every day while they worked, so they devised a plan where they each worked three days out of seven while the other cared for the elflings; each seventh day the family spent together. Today it was Glorfindel’s day to care for their children while Erestor attended a meeting with the ambassador from Lorien. Gailion and Amdiriel were still with Melpomaen learning their reading and writing, but would be back for their midday meal.
“There’s my clean little elfling again,” Glorfindel declared, lifting their youngest from the now dingy water. Faelion squealed with laughter as his ada tossed him up in the air and caught him again. He wrapped the elfling in a thick towel, then carried him into the bedroom and set him in front of the fire. “Wait here for me, little one, while Ada cleans up the bath, then we’ll get dressed and get ready for lunch with your brother and sister, all right?”
“All right, Ada Glor,” the elfling answered, reaching for the long-suffering Tinnu, who was napping with his mate Glirien in front of the fire. He dragged the large black cat close, and his little hands began to stroke the soft fur – backwards. Glirien opened an eye at the loss of the warm body beside her, but seeing the elfling, she simply went back to sleep.
“Watch Faelion for me, Tinnu,” Glorfindel said, grinning at the elfling and the cat before returning to the bathroom to clean up their mess. Singing once again, he grabbed some towels to sop up the water covering the floor.
After petting the cat for a few minutes, Faelion decided he wanted to see his Ada Restor. He loved his Ada Glor, but his other Ada was special. Very special. “Ada Glor, going to see Ada now,” he called. Pushing Tinnu aside, he said, “Stay, Tinnu,” and scurried to the outer door. If he stood on tiptoe, he could just reach the latch, and it only took a moment before he was running through the halls, laughing and skipping his way to his Ada’s office, a black cat running behind him.
Glorfindel closed the water taps he had been running to rinse the bathtub, still singing merrily, and not hearing a thing out of the ordinary.
Glirien opened her eyes at Tinnu’s frenzied meow and watched her mate streak out of the door after the elfling. Lifting her heavily pregnant body off of the floor, she waddled into the bathroom and meowed, touching Glorfindel’s hand with her white-mitten paw to get his attention.
“Hello, sweetheart,” Glorfindel said softly, stroking the soft gray and white animal. “Did we wake you up?”
Glirien meowed loud and long, and waddled back to the bedroom, turning back to see if Glorfindel was following.
Lifting an eyebrow, Glorfindel tossed the towels he was using into the basket for laundry and followed the cat into the empty bedroom. “Faelion,” he called, “where are you, little one?” And then he saw the open door. Heedless of his still wet clothing, he rushed out into the hall just in time to see a black tail disappear around a far corner and a trail of water from the elfling’s still dripping hair.
Faelion pushed the door of his Ada’s office open, and found it empty. He was just going to call out when he heard voices talking in the next room. Grinning and giggling, he pushed the door to the other room open, and squealed, “Ada!” when he saw Erestor sitting at the end of a long table.
Elrond covered his mouth with his hand to hide his grin and raised his eyebrows at Erestor.
Erestor was out of his seat in a flash and hurrying to his little one. Tinnu ran interference and tackled the elfling to the ground just as Faelion approached the table.
Landing on his behind, Faelion giggled and held his arms out to Erestor. “Wanted to see you, Ada,” he grinned.
The Lorien ambassador grinned at the elfling, then calmly spoke. “Is it the habit of your realm to allow wet little elflings to run around unclothed, Lord Elrond? A new method of drying them perhaps?”
Elrond lost his battle to hold his laughter in and laughed until his sides ached. “Not at all, my dear Ambassador,” he finally managed to get out. “Only little elflings who just had a bath and manage to escape their minder.”
“What are you doing here, sweetling?” Erestor asked, picking up his youngest son and wrapping him in the folds of his robes, just as a soggy, out of breath Glorfindel burst into the room.
“Wanted to see you, Ada,” Faelion said, wrapping his little arms around Erestor’s neck and planting a loud, sloppy kiss on his Ada’s cheek. “Missed you.”
“I missed you too, sweetling,” Erestor whispered, kissing his golden-haired elfling on the brow, “but you were supposed to stay with Ada Glor this morning.”
“Have you met Lord Glorfindel yet, Haldir?” Elrond asked. “He captains our forces admirably and sees to the valley’s security, but apparently has not yet learned everything there is to know about elflings.”
