Summary:

After the ring is destroyed all is peaceful and all is well. Gondor
awaits it's king and Aragorn awaits his queen. Unfortunately Arwen
has longed to explore he friend she has always known in Legolas. Her
heart went to the man and the elf. All the while Aragorn's old
feelings for Eowyn surfaced and conflicting his heart and mind.

T'was the nightingale she heard chirping softly outside her window.
She lay there with eyes slightly parted with thoughts of him, Legolas.

Betrothed to Estel had been the idea for the Evenstar but her heart
yearned for more and her heart was divided between man and elf.
Legolas and Aragorn were both very different and held different parts
of her heart.

Legolas, she had known him as long as memory served and his name
always brought a smile to her lips. She remembered of his frequent
visits from Mirkwood and how he would come to see Elrohir or Elladan
but theirs had been the friendship that had grown as well.

Stolen moments and glances was all she knew from the tree elf.
Touches that were not usually given to just any other, indeed she
saved some for him. Memory of him was sweet but bitter since there
was always, what seemed to be, something left unsaid between them.

She sat up suddenly hearing footsteps and looked to the now disturbed
peace. The bird no longer sang and all became as silent as night was
meant to be. She peered out the window to see what come forth but saw
nothing.

Suddenly, a face came to view in front of her. She gasped and jumped
back at the mirthful face, "Estel!" He and the twins never seemed to
tired of these games but she often wondered why they included her
unwillingly.

His head tilted to the side in silent question, "what were you
thinking of that kept you so intent?" His roguish smile was endearing
and her slight anger lost as the question took her by surprise.

"Of you," she whispered and she knew it wasn't entirely true but also
not a lie. She gave him a weak smile as he reached out to touch her
face. "How fares Gondor?" She reminded him of his station and his
duty. He was to take the crown soon and they were to rule together as
husband and wife. She sighed, long had it been since they had
discussed it.

She moved from the soft pillows of the bench she had slipped into.
She moved to the door to meet him wide eyed and he took her into his
arms fully as he spun her over his head. Her laughter rung out as her
gown brushed the floor and she found it hard to think of another
male. So it was when she was alone with Aragorn or Legolas.

He placed only a chaste kiss upon her lips. Never had their bodies
met and never had they shared any pleasures of flesh. He held her in
very high regards and to touch her before he made her his queen was
to soil her in his eyes but he did yearn for her bodily.

He put her back on the floor trying to remember his place and not to
become swept away, "Gondor is well," he smiled thinking of the
upcoming coronation. "I had hoped to look to your father for counsel,
once more."

She nodded slowly it seemed he had indeed sought counsel with her
father often now. In fact, it was becoming harder to keep him alone
and when she did he was often speaking with her adar.

She nodded, "he is in his study the last I saw." She raised a slender
hand and her gray eyes looked to the portal from which he had come.

They both said not a word as they moved through the falling leaves.
She looked up with an impish smile at the foliage and the gentle wind
that brought the leaves dancing around them, it was romantic. The
romance seemed to be lost on Aragorn since he seemed lost in his
thoughts. Had she been alone she would have ran to the wind and put
her hands up to reach the highest floating leaf.

Her father was sitting dutifully at his desk with quill in hand and a
stoic look on his hand face. Before either could speak or alert them
to their presence he looked up.

Lord Elrond nodded to his foster son, "what troubles the future king
of Gondor?" His words would have carried a tone of pride if he had
not the woe of the knowledge he feared Aragorn brought.

"If I may be as bold to speak with you alone, Lord Elrond?" He looked
to them both and Elrond waved to Arwen to dismiss her. Her confused
stare was brief as she left with a small sigh.

Aragorn watched him sadly, "you know of the news I bring?" Elrond
nodded slowly, "you have seen this? Why have you not spoken of it?
Warned me or my heart?" His words were almost angry but when their
eyes met Elrond knew it was sadness.

Elrond has no answer for the ranger, his foster son. Yes, he had an
answer but he was certain it was not favorable to Aragorn. "You
infatuation with the lady of Rohan is something you might need to
understand before you go further down your path." In truth, he hoped
that Arwen would follow her heart to Legolas and Aragorn would go to
Eowyn. He knew it was not likely but it would save Arwen, at least in
his eyes.
