Love Declared

Haldir sat upon a rock, leaning back on his hands as he watched his brother Orophin and the twins Elladan and Elrohir splash around, trying to dunk one another. He chuckled as Orophin managed to immerse Elrohir completely under the water only to have the eldest twin come to his brother’s rescue. Orophin yelped as he was pulled under, arms flailing. When he managed to break the surface all he could do was yell out for Haldir’s help before he was dunked once again. Haldir shook his head and called out, “I do not think so brother. That is what you get for engaging those two.”

Orophin threw his brother Haldir a scowl before swimming away, trying desperately to evade the twins’ grasp. Haldir then heard strains of music and he looked to the shore at where his other brother Rúmil sat with Arwen and the minstrel Lindir, who was playing his lute. How his brother adored the white-haired Minstrel but kept it well hidden. Only Haldir and Orophin knew and that was only because they were brothers and they knew each other too well to hide something that involved the heart from each other. Almost against his will, Haldir’s gaze was drawn to three other ellyn, particularly to Lord Elrond. He watched as Elrond sat with his Advisor Erestor and his Captain Glorfindel, talking quietly amongst themselves, every once in awhile laughing at the twins’ and Orophin’s antics.

Haldir stared at Lord Elrond, his heart doing a summersault within his chest. He could still remember the first time that he had met the Peredhel, the day that he had lost his heart. He had fought it, his heart, but it was an impossible battle. Elrond had claimed his heart, and he never even knew it, and still did not to this day. Suddenly his eyes locked with steel grey ones and he looked away quickly, trying hard to hide the blush that he felt creeping to his cheeks.

Elrond smiled as he watched the Marchwarden shift upon the rock that he sat on. He had felt the ellon’s (m. elf’s) gaze on him from time to time, and it had been hard not to return it. Elrond had suspected for some time that Haldir had felt something for him, whether it was mere lust or something deeper, Elrond was not positively sure. For his part, it was not just the Marchwarden’s body that he longed for, but his heart and soul. He had been alone for a long time, his beloved wife now living in Aman, and he finally felt at peace, knowing in his heart that she had truly found her happiness and health on those blessed white shores. When Haldir looked his way again and blushed even deeper, he could not stifle a chuckle as the Galadhel slipped back into the lake.

Erestor looked up from staring down at his hervenn and quirked his brow, “And what is so funny meldir (m. friend)?”

Elrond stood and slowly undid the clasps to his robe as he looked down at his two best mellyn (pl. friend); Glorfindel lay with his head in Erestor’s lap, and said, “I think I feel like a swim.”

Erestor and Glorfindel smiled, both of them were quite please that Elrond finally was taking some time away from his duties. They knew that he worked too hard and that is why they insisted that he join them for the picnic. “Enjoy yourself, but beware of your ionnath (sons),” Glorfindel laughed.

Elrond nodded with a smile and then dove into the lake before Haldir had broke the surface. In doing so, he had ample time to sneak up on the silver-haired ellon.

Haldir threw his head back as he came up out of the water, brushing his hair out of his face. He waded in the water as he shook his head at the continued splashing around of his brother and the twins. When he looked to the shore he frowned when he did not see Elrond. Suddenly his eyes widened as he felt something brush his thighs and then he was looking into molten grey eyes. “My…My…Lord…” Haldir sputtered.

Elrond smiled mischievously at the stunned Marchwarden as he placed his hands on Haldir’s hips, “Enjoying your swim?”

All Haldir could do was nod as he gulped for air, his heart beating nigh out of his chest. Elrond licked his lips before he swam a circle around the Galadhel and he whispered in his ear, “I have had my fill of swimming for the day, why not take a walk with me?”

Haldir nodded once more and followed the Peredhel to the shore, quickly donning his clothing as fast as his shaking limbs would allow. Mumbling goodbye to his brother Rúmil, Haldir followed Elrond away from the others and down the path that led back to the Last Homely House. When they were half way there, Haldir could not take the silence any longer and asked, “My Lord?”

Elrond stopped and took Haldir’s hand in his and said, “Call me Elrond, saes (please). I would like to ask you a question Haldir, what are your feelings for me?”

Haldir had been staring down at his hand that Elrond was holding when the Peredhel’s question registered in his mind and he snapped his eyes up to lock with the Noldo’s, “My feelings?”

Elrond sighed with relief; for he could see the need in the Marchwarden’s eyes tinged with affection and he moved in to cup Haldir’s cheek, “Yes your feelings, for I am so in love with you that I cannot contain it a moment longer.”

Tears sprang to Haldir’s eyes as the Elf Lord pressed his lips to his and when the kiss ended, Haldir whispered, “Good, because I feel the same way, Elrond nín (my Elrond),” then pulled the dark-haired ellon in for a deeply passionate kiss.
