Orophin walked the grounds of the Last Homely House, trying to occupy his time. It was his first visit to Imladris, and so far it was proving to be very uneventful, if not down right boring. But he had begged Haldir to allow him to come along the next time he went to visit, and he had kept his word. So now he walked around, alone, trying to pass the time and hoping they would be leaving earlier than his eldest brother had said.
The Imladris elves were friendly enough; he passed no one that did not at least nod to him in greeting. However, few stopped to talk or paid much more attention to him beyond that polite nod. He felt almost invisible, but realized to himself that he was not trying to talk to them, either. Not normally one to be shy, Orophin had surprised himself by suddenly being a social coward.
His first thoughts of how he would be acting when he came into the land had turned out to be false. Seeing so many fair elves, he had mentally picked out several that he would have liked to bed, and had thought he would attempt it. But thus far he had not. And no one tried to bed him, either. He reassured himself that it had only been a few days and it was this that was causing his shyness, not that his was losing his ability to charm.
Growing bored of his wandering, he decided to look around indoors for a little while. Climbing the steps and going inside, he found himself inside the great library. He crinkled his nose. He was not one for reading for pleasure, or even for study, come to think of it. He did not understand anyone who was. But he decided to have a look around anyway.
Looking at the rows of books surrounding him, he walked slowly, reading the occasional title and even taking the occasional book from a shelf to leaf through. But after several minutes he decided it was too quiet in the library and decided to explore somewhere else. Walking towards the exit of the library, he suddenly froze as his eyes caught a glimpse of swirling black hair.
Orophin stopped in his tracks and watched the black haired elf as he rushed around the library. He was small in frame, dressed in black and gray robes, and seemed to almost float. But he waited patiently for the elf to place his burden down; the pile of books he carried was so high in his hands that it covered his face.
He smiled as the elf finally placed his load down on a desk with a heavy sigh. Placing his hands on his back, he gently rubbed his muscles a little as he stretched his neck from side to side. His dark eyes glittered in the light from a nearby candle as he stared at the books before him and shook his head.
Deciding to be a little more social, Orophin stepped forward towards the dark haired elf. Straightening his clothes a little, he stopped and coughed lightly. The smaller elf looked up at him with a start.
“Good day,” Orophin said, putting on his politest act. “Would like some help with your burden?”
The dark eyes of the elf before him looked him up and down before settling on his face. “I could. But in order to help me, you must be able to read. Are you able to read?”
Orophin felt the jab hit him like a punch in the gut. Unmoved, he smiled. “I am sure I can handle it enough to put these away.”
“Alright then. I’ll make it easy for you. Pick these up and follow me.”
Doing as instructed, Orophin took the heavy books from the desk and followed the small elf down a row of books, bending down every so often so he could pull a book off the top of the stack and place it on the shelf before him.
“My name is Orophin, by the way.”
“Nice to meet you.”
“Um… I did not catch your name.”
The small elf glared at him. “Erestor.”
“Erestor. Hm. That is a rather beautiful name.”
“Thank you, but you do not need to spend another moment flirting with me. I am not interested.”
“Flirting? I do not flirt!”
“Oh? A warrior is helping out in the library just to be kind? And making small talk with someone who cares not for warrior skills just because?”
“Well, yes. I am trying to be friendly. Not many want to talk around this land.”
“I figure not. You seem rather boring.”
“Erestor?”
“What?”
“Are you always this mean?”
“Yes.”
“Oh.” Orophin smiled to himself. Mean, but beautiful. He growled quietly to himself as he felt his breeches tightening.
Erestor paid no attention as he went back to putting his beloved books away. He said nothing further to his new helper for several minutes, and hoped to himself he would follow his example.
“Erestor?”
“You do know you are supposed to be quiet in a library, do you not?”
“Yes, but…”
“Then be quiet!”
Orophin did as he was told for several minutes, until the job was done and his arms were once again empty. He pressed against the shelves as Erestor pushed past him with a quick thank you and vanished into another row.

“What did you do today, little brother?” Haldir asked, falling into step next to Orophin.
“Nothing much. Just wandered, mostly.”
“Find anything interesting?”
“Well, I went to the library.”
“You? In a library? And you did not burst into flames upon walking through the entrance?”
Orophin sneered at him before chuckling. “No, but I found something interesting.”
“Licking the books, little brother? I thought you stopped that when you were an elfling.”
“Please! An interesting book? Never! Actually, I found a rather pretty little elf named Erestor.”
“Of course, I should have known. You did not have at him in the middle of the library, did you?”
“No. He would hardly speak to me. But I am not about to give up yet.”
“Be careful, brother. He head advisor to Lord Elrond.”
“Really? I thought he was just a library hermit.”
“Same thing.”
“True. He was rather mean, also.”
“Mean? Oh, he rejected you!”
“He was mean, Haldir! I only offered to help him put away some books he was having trouble carrying, and he made a comment about me not being able to read because I am a warrior.”
“Well, you cannot read, can you?”
“Yes! Haldir, for once can you not pick on me so!”
“Sorry, force of habit. It is just so easy.”
“Very funny.”
“So what do you plan to now?”
“I do not know. But I am going to win his heart before I leave. You can count on it.”
“I will not hold my breath.”
