Black socks
Disclaimer: Not true! Just my fantasy going wild with me...
Notes: The title refers to the Finnish word “mustasukkainen” (engl.: jealous). Translated word by word it means “wearing black socks”.
The fic was inspired by a quote of Mark Ferguson at the Ringcon in Fulda this year: “Everybody wants Haldir, but I’m the only one who gets him.” As a little explanation: Dave Wenham was supposed to be at the Ringcon this year, but he cancelled because he had to train for his new role.
Black socks
The airport was swarming with people who were babbling in many different languages. Mark shook his head when he saw a woman passing by who was wearing a skirt that was much too short and heels that were so high that she could barely walk normally. He smiled at at the two Japanese men who were taking photographs of each other while standing in the entry hall. Just to show theirfolks bak home: Look this is what Europe looks like.
Suddenly he saw blue eyes and a messy mopp of hair appearing in the crowd and Mark lifted his hand to wave so that his lover could see him. “Craig! I’m here!” he exclaimed, stretching a little so Craig really didn’t miss in the group of people waiting for their loved ones.
“Mark!” A warm smile lit up on Craig’s handsome features and he started to walk into the taller man’s direction.
Mark froze when he saw that Craig was followed closely by a strawberry-blond man whose eyes Mark could see sparkling from where he was standing. He stretched a little more.
“Crumbs, but I missed you!” Craig sighed deeply when he snuggled into the other man’s arms, holding close to him.
“Missed you, too, Craig,” Mark mumbled and kissed Craig’s hair, glaring at the man who was still standing behind Craig. “By the way. You have a stalker there...”
“Stalker?” Confused Craig turned his head. “Oh! You mean Daisy?” He pointed at the tall Aussie behind him. “That’s okay, I brought him as a surprise for everybody...”
“So you’re a surprise...” Mark drawled with his eyebrows drawn up, reluctantly letting go of Craig to shake Dave’s hand.
Dave nodded with a lopsided grin and accepted the other man’s hand. “G’day, mate!”
Mark didn’t hide his antipacy for the other Aussie. “You surely surprised me, DAISY!!!”
“Mark!” Craig hissed and pulled his lover to the side, his eyes narrowing to icy blue slits. “What’s wrong with you?” He slapped Mark on his arm. “Don’t be so rude to him, he’s my friend!”
“Oh!” Mark pulled up his eyebrows, nodding mock-understandingly. “Now he’s not only a surprise, but also your friend. What’s next? You two are married and you’re having his baby?” Mark grumbled in a dangerously low voice and looked down at Craig, interrupting the shorter man when Craig tried to say something against it. “And Daisy! What kind of a name is that anyway?”
Craig cocked his head a little and folded his hands. “I can’t believe we’re having this discussion, Mark!” he mumbled quietly and shook his head. “His name is David and you know that. We worked together on Rings. David Wenham. Famous Australian actor.”
Mark lifted his hand in annoyance. “I know who he is, but what I want to know is why is he here with you? I thought he had cancelled Ring*Con!”
“Mark...” Craig sighed and put his hand on Mark’s arm. “Surprisingly Dave got the time to fly in after all. He arrived in London last night and we spent...”
“OK, so I don’t need to be worried, but you two lovebirds spend the night together?” Mark laughed in a cold voice, pressing his lips together to a thin line.
Craig was speaking louder now. “...we spent the time before our flight in a café on the airport.”
Mark mumbled something unintelligible and looked down to the floor.
“Excuse me?” a male voice suddenly interrupted them and when Mark turned around he was looking directly into Dave’s eyes.
“Yes?” Mark hissed.
“Um...I was just wondering if it would take you much longer or if you could continue your discussion in the hotel. Cause I’d really like to take a shower before I have to step out and meet the crowd.”
“Sorry, Daisy,” Craig said in a quiet voice. “We will come in a minute.” He poked Mark into his rips with his fingers. “Right, Mark?” Mark could hear in Craig’s voice that the smaller man would not accept anything but a yes.
“Ok,” Mark mumbled and followed Dave into the direction of the car that would bring them to their hotel in Fulda, leaving Craig to carry all of his bags on his own.
“Hey!” Craig protested as he saw his lover walk away. “Don’t you want to help me, Mark?”
As soon as Craig was out of hearing range Mark grabbed Dave by his collar and pulled him behind a pillar so Craig couldn’t see them. “Listen!” he hissed, poking Dave into his chest with his index-finger.
“What?” Dave tried to free himself from Mark’s grasp, but failed as the taller Aussie in front of him was blocking his way.
“You be quiet now!” Mark growled once more and leant down dangerously close to Dave’s face. “Now listen to me carefully and remember this: I know how gorgeous Craig is – that’s why I’m with him.” He took a deep breath, stretching once more to his full height to look more intimidating. “Everybody wants Haldir, but I’m the only one who gets him. Arright?”
Dave was looking totally confused now. “That’s alright, mate!” he replied hastily. “I knew that. Never planned to take him away from you, mate!”
Mark was still not looking totally happy with that answer, a look of suspicion on his face, but he let go of the other man. “Ok...but don’t you think that I am not watching your every step...” He was just about to turn around and lead the way outside when Craig arrived next to them, his face red with heat as he had carried all of his bags alone through the hall.
“Mark,” he said in a firm voice, letting all of his bags fall to the floor with a thud. Craig lifted his hands to grab fistfuls of Mark’s hair. “I think we’ll have a word or two about your jealousy later...” He shook his head and smiled apologetically at Dave. “Sorry, Daisy. I really don’t know what’s wrong with him today...”
Dave still didn’t look like he knew what was going on. “Oh, it’s okay, really! We all have a bad day sometimes...”
“Yeah...” Craig glared at his lover. “And Mr Ferguson here seems to have gotten up with his wrong foot far too often lately...” He gave Mark a little push with his elbow. “Come on, bitch! Help me with my bags, k?” Craig grinned as he saw that Mark was looking down on his feet, obviously sorry for his earlier behaviour.
Mark took a step to the side, leaning his head down on Craig’s shoulder. “Forgive me, love?”
“Mmmh...” Craig grimaced a little, but soon a good natured grin reappeared on his face. “I’ll give you a chance to make up for it later.” He patted Mark’s back with his hand. “Now be a good boy and help me with these!” He pointed once more at his bags. “Crumbs, but they’re heavy!” Craig turned his head so that he was facing Dave now. “He should behave now. Just lemme know when he bothers you and I’ll happily kick his arse!”
Finis.
