Summary: Erestor’s life has been dark since he lost his Glorfindel in Gondolin, until a new day arrived.
Erestor’s New Day
Now the time has come
The music's between us
Though the night seems young
Is at an end
Only change will bring
You out of the darkness
In this moment everything is born again
Erestor stood in a dark corner of the Hall of Fire, wishing Lindir would stop singing that horrid song. Nothing could ever bring him out of the darkness. His light had gone out that day, the day the only elf he would ever love had been taken from him. He could not understand why he did not fade, the pain was so great. Mandos would not receive him, and kept him in this world of sorrow.
Reach up for the sunrise
Put your hands into the big sky
You can touch the sunrise
Feel the new day enter your life
There was no sunrise, no new day. For centuries, all he had were memories of his golden mate, his golden love, his golden light. Never would there be sunshine in his life again. It had vanished that day, and all that was left was darkness and mourning. Erestor turned to leave the Hall. He would return to his room, just as he did each night, to weep, his heart broken, until sleep slowly claimed him. Just as he had done for centuries. Ever since his golden light had been torn away from him.
Now the fireball burns
We go round together
As the planet turns into the light
Something more than dreams to
Watch out for each other
Coz we know what it means to be alive
“Erestor,” Elrond said. “Do not forget the arrival tomorrow morning of the new Captain of the Guards sent to us by Cirdan.”
“I will be there, Elrond,” Erestor said, then turned and left the room.
Elrond sighed as he watched his dear friend and Chief Councilor leave. He wished that there was something he could do to bring joy to his life. All Erestor had told his was that his spouse had been killed in the Fall of Gondolin, and that never again would he know joy without him.
Erestor trudged wearily up the steps to his rooms and threw himself on his bed. The only witness to his tears was a sleek black cat, who came and laid beside him as he did each night, trying to comfort his master.

In the morning, all of Imladris had gathered to witness the arrival of their new Captain. Golden helmed, he rode in on a large white horse, his cloak of blue and gold flying in the wind behind him.
Robed in his usual black, Erestor stood in the shadows on the porch and watched as the great warrior knelt before Elrond in the courtyard, pledging his service, but he could not hear the words. The warrior stood and lifted the helmet from his head, and a golden mane tumbled out as he turned.

Erestor cried out. He ran down the steps into the courtyard, arms outstretched, and all of Imladris watched as their new Captain shouted Erestor’s name and ran to meet their solemn Chief Councilor. Erestor hurled himself at his golden love, and was captured in strong arms and held tightly. Tears of joy streamed down their faces as they kissed and fingers searched long missed features.

“Oh, my love, you have returned to me,” Erestor whispered.
Glorfindel held Erestor’s face cupped in his hands. “Oh, Erestor, my precious Erestor. You are here. You are alive!” Tears streamed from his eyes as he kissed his beloved mate once again.
Elrond wiped tears from his eyes, and silently shooed everyone away. The gathered elves left, looking back at the sight with smiles and tears of happiness in their eyes for their Councilor. “Erestor, my friend, take your husband to your rooms. We will see you both tonight at dinner.”
The joy in Erestor’s face as he looked at his Lord was blinding. “Thank you, Elrond. Come, my love.”
Feel the new day enter your life
Feel the new day
Erestor screamed his husband’s name as Glorfindel thrust into his tight channel again and again, his hands gripping the muscled shoulders above him.
Glorfindel sobbed into Erestor’s neck as lightening coursed through him, and their minds and souls, torn asunder so many centuries ago, joined once more.
The sleek black cat kneaded his claws into the torn robes on the floor and purred loudly. Watching the two glowing elves, he was content to finally see his master happy.

Imladris’ Chief Councilor and Captain entered the dining hall, arm in arm, richly attired in brilliant blue and gold. Elrond noticed that a gold circlet with the symbol of the House of the Golden Flower, matching his husband’s, had replaced Erestor’s mithril circlet of office. A golden ring matching the one that always adorned Erestor’s finger now encircled Glorfindel’s finger. But neither the gold nor the sapphires adorning his hair sparkled as brightly as the joy that shone from Erestor’s eyes as he looked adoringly upon his returned golden mate.
