For the wonderful Lady Mirfain.
Valinor, The Fourth Age, 121
The ship, one of the last from Middle-earth, finally arrived on the white shores of Valinor. Celeborn had finally decided to sail, bringing his long-time guardians and foster sons, Haldir, Orophin and Rumil, and his grandsons, Elladan and Elrohir with him. Rumil stood on the deck along side his brothers, searching for the one elf he wanted to see. Orophin spotted him first, and pointed, smiling. “There. There he is, brother.”
Rumil shouted the name of his beloved, his face breaking into a radiant smile. Unwilling to wait for the ship to be moored and a gangplank lowered, he raced to the railing, climbed it easily, and leapt the distance to the dock.
The dark elf heard his name shouted. Eyes searching, he finally located the one he had been waiting long years for. His arms opened and to receive and hold him close. Their tears of joy mingled as lips, long parted, sought each other. Hands buried themselves in silky hair as kisses deepened and silver blonde hair mixed with ebony. Friends and family smiled indulgently at the sight of the lover’s joyous reunion before they walked past to welcome the other arriving elves.
“Welcome home, my darling husband,” Erestor said, before once again capturing the precious lips with his own.

Imladris, The Third Age, 2386
Glorfindel walked through the halls, checking that all the windows were closed and locked and no candles were left burning, before joining his beloved little Melpomaen. Elrond and Celebrian had retired hours ago, and Glorfindel’s last act at night was to see to the safety of the Last Homely House.
Seeing a light shining under Erestor’s office door, he knocked lightly, then opened the door. “Still working, my friend? It is late.”
“There is still much to do before Celeborn and Galadriel arrive tomorrow,
Glorfindel.” Erestor looked up and smiled at his golden friend. “Do not worry, I will make sure the candles are extinguished before I retire. Go to bed, my friend. I am quite sure your husband is waiting for you.”
Glorfindel grinned. “Good night, my friend.”
Erestor chuckled as the door closed, and returned to his work.
~~*~~
In the morning the household assembled in the courtyard to greet the Lord and Lady of the Golden Wood. Erestor stood beside Glorfindel and Melpomaen, watching with smiles as Celebrian, Elrond, and their children greeted Celeborn and Galadriel.
Before he was dragged into the house, Celeborn motioned for Haldir and two other elves Erestor had never met before to join him. He brought the elves to where Erestor and Glorfindel waited. Both of the elves resembled Haldir, so Erestor surmised they were his brothers. But the youngest, oh the youngest was enchanting, Erestor thought, with his sparkling blue eyes, rosy cheeks, and rosy full lips. In all that Haldir had told him of his beloved brothers, he had never told him that Rumil was so enchanting. Celeborn’s voice called him out of his musings.
“Erestor, Glorfindel, my friends. You know my foster son, Haldir, of course.”
“Indeed I do, my Lord. Welcome to Imladris, Haldir. I am happy to see you here for nothing more than a pleasant visit this time, instead of a problem.” Erestor smiled as Glorfindel embraced Haldir, slapping him on the back.
“And these are Haldir’s brothers, Orophin and Rumil, and my other foster sons.”
“Welcome to Imladris, Orophin and Rumil. You are most welcome here,” Erestor said graciously.
“It is about time you let them out of your woods, Celeborn,” Glorfindel said. “I have heard much about you both from Haldir. I regretted you were out on patrol the last time I was in Lothlorien and did not have the opportunity to meet you before.”
“Thank you, Lord Erestor, Lord Glorfindel,” Orophin said, as both of Haldir’s brothers bowed. “We are very pleased to be here.”
“We have heard so much of the beauty of Imladris, that I am afraid we gave Lord Celeborn no rest until he agreed to let us come this time,” Rumil added with a smile. And he was looking at the most beautiful part of Imladris right in front of him, Rumil thought.
“Indeed they did, the wanton beggars. I finally agreed to let them come so I would get some peace. And who is this, Glorfindel?” Celeborn asked, nodding to Melpomaen.
“My Lord, may I present my wonderful husband, Melpomaen? We were bound just a month ago. I believe he finally agreed to have me so he would have some peace as well,” Glorfindel said.
“Married finally, eh? Melpomaen, I congratulate you, and look forward to knowing the elf who could finally cause this rogue to settle down. And as a belated bonding gift, I will tell you some stories of your illustrious husband that will be perfect for blackmailing him with.” Celeborn winked at Melpomaen.
“Thank you my Lord,” Melpomaen answered. “I look forward to hearing them.”
“Celeborn, you would not. We have been married but a month! Wait at least a hundred years or so before telling him!” Glorfindel said, jokingly.
“I see Galadriel making those eyes at me, my friends. I must rejoin them. May I leave my sons in your care? I fear they will be bored with the others, and they are anxious to see Imladris.”
“Of course, my Lord,” said Erestor. “I will show them their rooms and then give them a little tour so they can find their way around.” Celeborn thanked him and left with Galadriel.
“Now, Glorfindel, tell me everything. Wherever did you find such an adorable little elf for a husband, and does he have any brothers?” Haldir said.
Glorfindel laughed and wrapped an arm around the blushing Melpomaen, possessively. “Careful, my friend, Mel is mine! Come, and we will entertain you with the story. Erestor, may we leave you with Orophin and Rumil so we can catch up?”
Erestor waved them off. “Let me show you to your rooms,” he told Orophin and Rumil. “You can refresh yourself from your journey and I will have some food sent for you. Then in an hour or so I will come and collect you and show you Imladris. Does that meet with your approval?”
“Aye, that sounds wonderful, Lord Erestor. Especially the food part,” Rumil said.
Erestor laughed as they walked into the house. He liked this young elf. “Please, call me Erestor.” He led them to their rooms in the family wing. “This is your room, Orophin. Let me know if you need anything at all. Rumil, yours are the next room, here. If either of you need anything, that is my door, right across the hall. I will show you where my office is later. Enjoy your rest, and I will be back in an hour or so.”
The two brothers thanked him sweetly, and Erestor left.
“Oh, Orophin, isn’t he beautiful?”
“Who, brother?”
“Erestor, you dolt. Have you ever seen such wonderful eyes? His skin is like white porcelain and his hair like black silk. His lips – have you every seen such kissable lips? Red and plump like ripe cherries. And his voice – magical.” Rumil said dreamily.
Orophin laughed. “Go and bathe, brother, before he returns and you are sill standing out here in the hall.” He pushed Rumil into his room, and returned to his own, chuckling and shaking his head.
Erestor returned an hour later and collected the brothers. Taking them outside, they walked through the gardens and orchards. Both brothers exclaimed at the beauty all around them. Rumil was fascinated by all the waterfalls and found he liked the sound of all the rushing water, finding it calming. When they reached the training grounds, several guards were sparring.
“Erestor,” Orophin said, “do you think they would allow us to spar with them. We do not want to get out of practice while we are here.”
“Come, and I will introduce you.” Erestor led the brothers over to the guards and introduced them as Lord Celeborn’s foster sons. “They would like to be able to spar and keep up their skills while they are here.”
“Of course, my Lord, they are welcome to spar with us anytime,” one of the guards said.
“Erestor,” Orophin said, “would you mind if I stayed now? Rumil is anxious to see the library, and I confess that holds no interest for me.”
“Of course not. You are here on a pleasure visit, so feel free to do whatever you would like.” Erestor smiled at Orophin. “Just send him back in time to get cleaned up before lunch, will you?” he asked the guards.
The guards agreed and took Orophin to find weapons for him to use.
“You wish to see the library, Rumil?” Erestor asked, looking at the enchanting elf and feeling his heart thump in his chest. What was wrong with him? He had never looked for a mate, being content with his work. And now all he could think of was how much he wanted to kiss Rumil and taste his lips.
“Aye, please, Erestor. I enjoy books and learning, and have heard what a wonderful library you have here.” And it would hopefully allow him to stay closer to the beautiful Erestor, Rumil thought. His mouth went dry just thinking about it.
They walked to the library, neither speaking, but caught each other stealing glances every so often. When they arrived at the library, Erestor showed Rumil how the books and scrolls were organized so he could find the books he was interested in.
“Am I keeping you from your work, Erestor?” Rumil asked.
“Well, I do have work to do, but I am enjoying our time together,” Erestor answered. More than enjoying it, he thought. I do not want to leave your side.
“Would you mind if I selected a book, and then perhaps I can sit in your office and read while you work?” Rumil asked, hopefully.
Erestor smiled. “Aye, I would like that.”
Rumil quickly found a book and Erestor escorted him to his office. In addition to Erestor’s desk, there was a fireplace with chairs and tables arranged in front of it. And a comfortable looking sofa that sat across from Erestor’s desk. Rumil went to the sofa so he could watch Erestor, secretly he hoped, as he pretended to read. He knew he would not be able to concentrate on anything with Erestor in the same room.
There was a fresh tea tray on the desk. Would you like some tea, Rumil?” Erestor asked.
“Please, Erestor. I find my mouth is very dry for some reason today.”
Erestor fixed the tea and Rumil got up and walked over the desk. Erestor handed him the cup, and as Rumil took it, their fingers touched, sending a warm feeling to Erestor’s groin and making him draw a sharp breath. What was wrong with him today? Since when did a tiny touch make him feel like this?
Rumil smiled. “Thank you,” he said and took the cup back to the sofa. What was this beautiful elf doing to him? He was a guard of Lothlorien, for Valar sake. He did not get all warm and dry-mouthed and have butterflies in his stomach.
They spent the rest of the morning sitting across from each other, stealing glances and neither managed to do much else. After lunch, they returned to Erestor’s office and did the same thing. By the time they left to dress for dinner, Erestor thought he would go mad if he could not kiss Rumil, or if Rumil did not kiss him, or whatever, not knowing that Rumil was having the exact same thoughts.
After dinner, as the others we going to the Hall of Fire to listen to music or dance, Erestor asked, “Would you like to walk in the gardens, Rumil? The gardens at night are beautiful when the moon is full and the stars are out.” Oh, sweet Elbereth, that sounded like a lovesick mule. Whatever was wrong with him?
Rumil’s heart pounded, but he managed to answer in a calm sounding voice, “Aye, I would like that, Erestor.”
They walked through the gardens, then wandered aimlessly through the rest of the grounds, not noticing where they were going, and neither saying much. Just the glances again. Erestor had not even realized they had walked beyond the gardens and were in the surrounding woods. As he walked, he tilted his head up to the stars, not even noticing that he could not see them through the treetops. He was wondering what to do or say, and how he could tell this wonderful elf at his side how he felt, or if he even should. And suddenly he realized there was no ground beneath his feet and he was falling, and a tiny scream escaped his lips. And then there were strong arms around him, holding him, and he was safe.
“Rumil,” he whispered, as soft lips pressed against his.
As they walked, Rumil had wanted to take Erestor’s hand, but did not dare. He had never been so smitten. It was said that elves often knew instantly when they met their soul mate. Was Erestor’s his? Was that why he was feeling so strange and had not been able to think of anything else from the moment they met? They had walked into the woods, and Rumil noticed there was a small but deep gully. But Erestor did not, and walked right into it. His heart skipped at least two beats as he saw Erestor begin to fall, and reached to grab hold of him. And then Erestor was in his arms, whispering his name, and he just had to kiss this beautiful elf.
Rumil felt Erestor’s arms wrap around his neck and pull his closer, and then their mouths were devouring each other as their tongues met and explored and danced. And it was perfect. And they felt sparks and lost themselves in each other and they knew they had each found the one they were born to love forever.
When they returned to the Last Homely House, Rumil did not go to his rooms, but to Erestor’s. They spent the night wrapped in each other’s arms, talking and sharing, and kissing and loving.
In the morning they went to Elrond and Celeborn and received their blessing. They refused to wait the normal year, and were married a month later in the presence of their families and friends.
Celeborn allowed Rumil to spend half of the year in Imladris. Each year, six months were wonderful with each other and full of love, and six months were horrible without each other and full of loneliness. And each time Rumil would arrive, Erestor would run to the courtyard and throw himself into his husband’s arms, and would tease Rumil the first night he was back that they set the sheets on fire.
And when the time came to sail, they thought they could finally be together forever. And then Celeborn informed them that he was not sailing yet and needed Rumil to stay, and Elrond said he could not do without Erestor.
The lovers performed their sworn duty to their Lords, and parted for 120 years of loneliness and longing. And Rumil swore to his Erestor that one day he would join him in Valinor, and Erestor swore to his Rumil he would always be waiting for him.
~~~~*~~~~
Valinor, Erestor’s years.
Work no longer offered Erestor the solace it once did, and his friends could not fill the empty space in his heart. Erestor chose to live apart from Elrond for the first time in millennia. He obtained a house and furnished it with his and Rumil’s treasured possessions. In his loneliness, he took in an elfling, orphaned during the last wars on Middle-earth. Her blue eyes and silvery blonde hair reminded him of Rumil. The house rang with laughter, and he was unprepared for how quickly he fell in love with the little sprite. Faelwen provided laughter and love and kept his aching heart warm.
He worked with Elrond to build great libraries so the history of the elves on Middle-earth would not be forgotten, and together they taught the elven lore to those who had never left the blessed shores. He built large gardens around the house, and planted a forest of trees. Fruit trees flourished along side oak, maple and birch, and the woods were a haven for birds and all wild things. He built a talen in the trees, and he and Faelwen would sit at night looking at the stars, while he told her about Rumil and Imladris.
Faelwen grew into a tall, beautiful woman. She fell in love and was betrothed to a tall, golden elf named Daeron. But Faelwen, who had known no other father but Erestor, obstinately refused to leave him until Rumil returned to his side, although Erestor and her betrothed pleaded with her. She would not leave her Ada alone. Erestor finally found a solution when he simply moved part of the gardens and had a home built next to his, to the delight of the betrothed couple.
She married, and with her good and kind husband, made sure that Erestor was always surrounded with love and light. Every day their elflings climbed on him, begged for stories, called him grandfather, and told him they loved him. The elflings Elueth and Rumil, named after his grandfather’s husband, were the joy of his heart, and he longed to be able to share them with Rumil.
And then one day word finally arrived of a ship from Middle-earth. Faelwen, Daeron and the elflings accompanied him to the dock, for fear Rumil would not be on board, and unwilling to have him go alone. Faelwen heard someone call her father’s name, and watched as a beautiful, tall elf with silver-blonde hair threw himself into Erestor’s arms. She smiled and blinked back tears of joy for her beloved Ada.
~~~*~~~
The elves finally broke their kiss to for breath, and held each other tightly. “I have so much to tell you, my love,” Erestor said.
“As do I, beloved,” Rumil answered. “I love you, my beautiful Erestor.”
“I love you, my wonderful Rumil.”
“Ada?” A soft voice spoke. “May we hope that this is Rumil?” Faelwen knew it was, for the sad spot she had always seen in Erestor’s eyes was no longer there.
Erestor grinned, loosened his hold on Rumil, and reached for Faelwen to draw her close. “My love, this is Faelwen, our adopted daughter. She has been with me since she was just a babe, and has been my delight. Her love and laughter have kept me sane without you.”
“Welcome to Valinor, Adar.” Faelwen kissed the astonished Rumil’s cheek. “Long have we waited for your coming.”
Erestor drew the others close. “And this is her husband, Daeron, and our grandchildren. This beautiful little one is Elueth. And this is Rumil.”
“Rumil? Grandchildren?” Rumil whispered.
“Aye, Adar. We named him after you,” Daeron answered.
Rumil smiled as the words sunk in.
Faelwen laughed, as her family embraced Rumil. “Poor Adar. We have stunned him and left him speechless, Ada.”
Orophin and Haldir joined them, and Orophin hugged Erestor. “I am happy to see you well, brother,” Orophin said. “Rumil was not the only one who missed you.”
Erestor laughed, and hugged the two brothers. “I have missed you two as well. But there is someone here who is longing to meet you both.” He introduced Faelwen, and then the others to Rumil’s brothers, who were warmly welcomed.
“Do you know where you are staying?” Daeron asked.
“No idea at all,” Haldir answered. “With Lord Celeborn, I suppose.”
“We would be pleased to have you stay with us for as long as you like. That way the children can get to know their new uncles. Will you come?” Faelwen asked.
“We have planned this for years. Please come.” Daeron added.
Haldir and Orophin happily agreed to the arrangement, and after bidding goodbye to Celeborn and the others, they accompanied Erestor and Rumil home.
Faelwen and Daeron escorted Erestor and Rumil to their house, while the elflings took Orophin and Haldir to their new home. “Ada, we will leave you now, for I know you long to spend time alone with Adar. Tomorrow will be time enough for all of us,” Faelwen said.
“Thank you, my love.” Erestor hugged his daughter and kissed her cheek.
“Faelwen, I want you to know that I…I am…so…. Oh, I don’t even know what to say,” Rumil said.
Faelwen laughed merrily. “I understand, Adar. You did not expect to find a family waiting for you.” She hugged Rumil and whispered in his ear so that only he could hear, “Just take care of Ada for me, and we will speak tomorrow.”
Rumil looked at her and smiled. “I believe I am going to like having you for a daughter.”
Erestor called goodnight as he pulled Rumil into the house and closed the door. He had furnished the house exactly how he knew Rumil would like it, with lots of rugs and pillows in front of the fireplaces, comfortable sofas for curling up on and reading, and a large comfortable bed that was perfect for loving.
They worked their way to the bedroom, stopping to kiss and fondle every little way, shedding clothing as they went. Finally they were in the large, comfortable bed.
“Oh, I have missed you,” Rumil said, as he took a nipple into his mouth and sucked and bit gently, “and this,” as its mate was subjected to the treatment. “And I missed your ears.” Erestor writhed as his ear was licked. “And I missed your neck.”
Erestor wrapped his arms around Rumil and flipped them over. “Not as much as I have missed you, my beautiful one,” he said hoarsely, before lowering his head and plundering Rumil’s mouth. He sank down on Rumil’s body and rubbed his hard member against Rumil’s, and both elves moaned.
“Erestor, please. Do not make me wait, beloved. Please, I need you,” Rumil moaned.
Erestor abruptly got up and ran to the bathroom, mumbling “Oil, oil” He quickly returned, carrying a bottle of bath oil. “This will have to do for now, my love.”
Rumil smiled and drew Erestor back down on top of him, saying, “I would have you with nothing right now, if I needed to, my love.”
Erestor kissed him, deeply and lovingly, then moved down Rumil’s body with a trail of kisses. He opened the bottle and poured some onto his fingers before lowering his head and taking Rumil’s engorged member into his mouth. Rumil roared and lifted his hips. Erestor massaged gently around Rumil’s entrance before pushing a finger inside. Feeling the muscles quiver around his finger, he moaned.
“Oh, Erestor…more…more!” Rumil screamed.
Two fingers gently moved in and out of the channel, then delved deep and found the little bundle of nerves, gently rubbing against it, as Erestor hummed and swallowed. Rumil roared Erestor’s name and he came in hot pulses down Erestor’s throat.
Three fingers thrust and stretched the pulsating channel as Erestor greedily swallowed every drop He released Rumil’s member and licked him clean before removing his fingers. He poured more oil and spread it over his throbbing member.
“Are you ready for me, my sweet love?” he asked.
“Oh…aye, beloved. More than ready,” Rumil moaned.
Erestor lifted Rumil’s legs to his shoulders, and smoothly thrust in to the hilt. “Oh…Rumil…Oh….I cannot stop…have to….oh baby…oh I love you,” he moaned as he pulled out and thrust deeply again and again. Sobs shook his frame and he wrapped Rumil’s legs around his waist. He reached down and pushed his arms under Rumil’s shoulders to draw his husband close.
Rumil wailed and tears streamed down his face as Erestor thrust deeply into him, hitting his special spot every time. His hands clawed into the back above him, as he screamed Erestor’s name again and again.
Their souls merged and broke apart, and merged again as their bond slipped firmly back into place, and the two reunited lovers came explosively, together, screaming each other’s name.
~~~*~~~
Erestor awoke, held firmly in his husband’s arms, and gazed into beloved blue eyes.
“Are you well, my love?” Rumil asked.
“Aye, my heart. And you?”
“I have just been waiting for you to awaken, so I can show you just how well I am, beloved.”
Erestor giggled. Rumil captured his lips with his own, and proceeded to well and truly love his husband.
He was home at last.
“Erestor,” Orophin said, “do you think they would allow us to spar with them. We do not want to get out of practice while we are here.”
“Come, and I will introduce you.” Erestor led the brothers over to the guards and introduced them as Lord Celeborn’s foster sons. “They would like to be able to spar and keep up their skills while they are here.”
“Of course, my Lord, they are welcome to spar with us anytime,” one of the guards said.
“Erestor,” Orophin said, “would you mind if I stayed now? Rumil is anxious to see the library, and I confess that holds no interest for me.”
“Of course not. You are here on a pleasure visit, so feel free to do whatever you would like.” Erestor smiled at Orophin. “Just send him back in time to get cleaned up before lunch, will you?” he asked the guards.
The guards agreed and took Orophin to find weapons for him to use.
“You wish to see the library, Rumil?” Erestor asked, looking at the enchanting elf and feeling his heart thump in his chest. What was wrong with him? He had never looked for a mate, being content with his work. And now all he could think of was how much he wanted to kiss Rumil and taste his lips.
“Aye, please, Erestor. I enjoy books and learning, and have heard what a wonderful library you have here.” And it would hopefully allow him to stay closer to the beautiful Erestor, Rumil thought. His mouth went dry just thinking about it.
They walked to the library, neither speaking, but caught each other stealing glances every so often. When they arrived at the library, Erestor showed Rumil how the books and scrolls were organized so he could find the books he was interested in.
“Am I keeping you from your work, Erestor?” Rumil asked.
“Well, I do have work to do, but I am enjoying our time together,” Erestor answered. More than enjoying it, he thought. I do not want to leave your side.
“Would you mind if I selected a book, and then perhaps I can sit in your office and read while you work?” Rumil asked, hopefully.
Erestor smiled. “Aye, I would like that.”
Rumil quickly found a book and Erestor escorted him to his office. In addition to Erestor’s desk, there was a fireplace with chairs and tables arranged in front of it. And a comfortable looking sofa that sat across from Erestor’s desk. Rumil went to the sofa so he could watch Erestor, secretly he hoped, as he pretended to read. He knew he would not be able to concentrate on anything with Erestor in the same room.
There was a fresh tea tray on the desk. Would you like some tea, Rumil?” Erestor asked.
“Please, Erestor. I find my mouth is very dry for some reason today.”
Erestor fixed the tea and Rumil got up and walked over the desk. Erestor handed him the cup, and as Rumil took it, their fingers touched, sending a warm feeling to Erestor’s groin and making him draw a sharp breath. What was wrong with him today? Since when did a tiny touch make him feel like this?
Rumil smiled. “Thank you,” he said and took the cup back to the sofa. What was this beautiful elf doing to him? He was a guard of Lothlorien, for Valar sake. He did not get all warm and dry-mouthed and have butterflies in his stomach.
They spent the rest of the morning sitting across from each other, stealing glances and neither managed to do much else. After lunch, they returned to Erestor’s office and did the same thing. By the time they left to dress for dinner, Erestor thought he would go mad if he could not kiss Rumil, or if Rumil did not kiss him, or whatever, not knowing that Rumil was having the exact same thoughts.
After dinner, as the others we going to the Hall of Fire to listen to music or dance, Erestor asked, “Would you like to walk in the gardens, Rumil? The gardens at night are beautiful when the moon is full and the stars are out.” Oh, sweet Elbereth, that sounded like a lovesick mule. Whatever was wrong with him?
Rumil’s heart pounded, but he managed to answer in a calm sounding voice, “Aye, I would like that, Erestor.”
They walked through the gardens, then wandered aimlessly through the rest of the grounds, not noticing where they were going, and neither saying much. Just the glances again. Erestor had not even realized they had walked beyond the gardens and were in the surrounding woods. As he walked, he tilted his head up to the stars, not even noticing that he could not see them through the treetops. He was wondering what to do or say, and how he could tell this wonderful elf at his side how he felt, or if he even should. And suddenly he realized there was no ground beneath his feet and he was falling, and a tiny scream escaped his lips. And then there were strong arms around him, holding him, and he was safe.
“Rumil,” he whispered, as soft lips pressed against his.
As they walked, Rumil had wanted to take Erestor’s hand, but did not dare. He had never been so smitten. It was said that elves often knew instantly when they met their soul mate. Was Erestor’s his? Was that why he was feeling so strange and had not been able to think of anything else from the moment they met? They had walked into the woods, and Rumil noticed there was a small but deep gully. But Erestor did not, and walked right into it. His heart skipped at least two beats as he saw Erestor begin to fall, and reached to grab hold of him. And then Erestor was in his arms, whispering his name, and he just had to kiss this beautiful elf.
Rumil felt Erestor’s arms wrap around his neck and pull his closer, and then their mouths were devouring each other as their tongues met and explored and danced. And it was perfect. And they felt sparks and lost themselves in each other and they knew they had each found the one they were born to love forever.
When they returned to the Last Homely House, Rumil did not go to his rooms, but to Erestor’s. They spent the night wrapped in each other’s arms, talking and sharing, and kissing and loving.
In the morning they went to Elrond and Celeborn and received their blessing. They refused to wait the normal year, and were married a month later in the presence of their families and friends.
Celeborn allowed Rumil to spend half of the year in Imladris. Each year, six months were wonderful with each other and full of love, and six months were horrible without each other and full of loneliness. And each time Rumil would arrive, Erestor would run to the courtyard and throw himself into his husband’s arms, and would tease Rumil the first night he was back that they set the sheets on fire.
And when the time came to sail, they thought they could finally be together forever. And then Celeborn informed them that he was not sailing yet and needed Rumil to stay, and Elrond said he could not do without Erestor.
The lovers performed their sworn duty to their Lords, and parted for 120 years of loneliness and longing. And Rumil swore to his Erestor that one day he would join him in Valinor, and Erestor swore to his Rumil he would always be waiting for him.
~~~~*~~~~
Valinor, Erestor’s years.
Work no longer offered Erestor the solace it once did, and his friends could not fill the empty space in his heart. Erestor chose to live apart from Elrond for the first time in millennia. He obtained a house and furnished it with his and Rumil’s treasured possessions. In his loneliness, he took in an elfling, orphaned during the last wars on Middle-earth. Her blue eyes and silvery blonde hair reminded him of Rumil. The house rang with laughter, and he was unprepared for how quickly he fell in love with the little sprite. Faelwen provided laughter and love and kept his aching heart warm.
He worked with Elrond to build great libraries so the history of the elves on Middle-earth would not be forgotten, and together they taught the elven lore to those who had never left the blessed shores. He built large gardens around the house, and planted a forest of trees. Fruit trees flourished along side oak, maple and birch, and the woods were a haven for birds and all wild things. He built a talen in the trees, and he and Faelwen would sit at night looking at the stars, while he told her about Rumil and Imladris.
Faelwen grew into a tall, beautiful woman. She fell in love and was betrothed to a tall, golden elf named Daeron. But Faelwen, who had known no other father but Erestor, obstinately refused to leave him until Rumil returned to his side, although Erestor and her betrothed pleaded with her. She would not leave her Ada alone. Erestor finally found a solution when he simply moved part of the gardens and had a home built next to his, to the delight of the betrothed couple.
She married, and with her good and kind husband, made sure that Erestor was always surrounded with love and light. Every day their elflings climbed on him, begged for stories, called him grandfather, and told him they loved him. The elflings Elueth and Rumil, named after his grandfather’s husband, were the joy of his heart, and he longed to be able to share them with Rumil.
And then one day word finally arrived of a ship from Middle-earth. Faelwen, Daeron and the elflings accompanied him to the dock, for fear Rumil would not be on board, and unwilling to have him go alone. Faelwen heard someone call her father’s name, and watched as a beautiful, tall elf with silver-blonde hair threw himself into Erestor’s arms. She smiled and blinked back tears of joy for her beloved Ada.

Erestor awoke, held firmly in his husband’s arms, and gazed into beloved blue eyes.
“Are you well, my love?” Rumil asked.
“Aye, my heart. And you?”
“I have just been waiting for you to awaken, so I can show you just how well I am, beloved.”
Erestor giggled. Rumil captured his lips with his own, and proceeded to well and truly love his husband.
He was home at last.
