That scream ripped the day apart, as no sword or spear had managed. Through the haze of battle-smoke, the drained reality of the wounded, the dull footsteps of the searchers, it tore the fields open.
The battle was over. They waded with heavy feet through the wreckage of their comrades, friends and brothers. They had seen battle before, and faced the inevitable loss that came with every empty gaze.
But that scream.
The bleached numbness of expectation teetered on the brink of the black abyss. Only one thing moved.
Eomer screamed.
And the sky tore in half for his sister.
