**********************************************************************

It was one of the most glorious days, the hidden valley of Imladris
had ever seen before. The sky was clear, and the warm sun beamed down
upon the elves living within the city, as they sang happily while
going about their daily duties.

The flowers in the extensive gardens were releasing their sweet
fragrances, and several couples, walking hand in hand, made their way
threw them while whispering soft words of love into their mate's ears.

The valley was alive with love and contentment, and every elf within
Imladris felt this, except for one.

The one elf, the very heart of the valley, did not feel these
things. He was alone, and had felt lonely ever since his beloved wife
had sailed out of his life many centuries before. For a time, his
precious children had kept the loneliness from entering his heart.

However, his sons were fierce warriors now and his only daughter
spent most of her time with her grandparents, which left him alone
most of the time now.

That one elf was Elrond, Half-Elven.

Elrond sighed softly, shifting slightly in his chair, as Erestor and
Glorfindel traded old stories of the past. He was thankful that his
friends tried to distract his mind from the loneliness, but sometimes
he only wished to be left alone.

"I still can not believe you said that to the High King, Glorfindel!"
Erestor hissed out, his angered voice betraying any emotion the elf
might have been feeling, because his stonier face remained as it
always had.

"Well he deserved it! He was acting like an overbearing ass!"
Glorfindel laughed out, as he took another sip of the wine they were
sharing.

Elrond watched as his ever proper Chief Advisor, rolled his eyes in
annoyance, and tossed a book from the nearby table at his Captain of
the Guard.

"Yes, but did you also have to say, and I quote. "You also have the
personality of a troll, high on shire weed, who had a tree stump
shoved up its ass!" Erestor growled out, while tossing another book
at Glorfindel.

Glorfindel easily avoided the first book, but the second one smack
the slightly intoxicated Captain right in the forehead.

"Why you little, tight ass, prune faced..." Glorfindel started to
rise from his chair, until his Lord cleared his throat and Glorfindel
slumped back into his chair, glaring at Erestor like he was a Balrog.

"As much as I would enjoy watching you two try to kill each other
again, I do not feel like having to patch you two up...again." Elrond
said softly in an emotionless tone, as he slowly rose from his chair.

Elrond placed his glass gently on the table with a soft "clink",
which could clearly be heard in the now silent room. "If you two will
forgive me, I think I will retire now." Elrond said, as he flashed a
smile at his two friends, a smile that did not show in his eyes.

As his Lord walked past him, Erestor grabbed Elrond's wrist in
concern, stopping the retreating elf. When Elrond turned his eyes
towards him, Erestor shivered at the coldness in their gray depths.

"My Lord...Elrond, maybe a nice walk before bed will lift your
spirits?" Erestor asked out of concern, as his fingers gently held
the captive wrist.

Elrond raised an eyebrow at Erestor's suggestion, there was just
something about his advisor's tone that bothered him, and for the
life of him, and Elrond could not figure what it was.

"Thank you, perhaps I will. The night air might sooth my mind."
Elrond said, as he gently twisted his wrist free from Erestor's grip.
Elrond paused, as if he was about to say something else, then he
simply turned on his heel, and slowly walked out of the room.

"I worry for him. He has never been the same, since...well you know."
Glorfindel said softly, his anger forgotten over his concern for his
Lord.

"Well, perhaps something will happen tonight, that will change that."
Erestor said, as a strange tinkle appeared in his eyes.

Glorfindel was about to question the Chief Advisor, when Erestor
stood, and with a softly whispered "sleep" as Erestor waved his hand,
Glorfindel imminently fell into a deep sleep.
Erestor smiled smugly down upon Glorfindel, before he walked over to
the opened window, where he watched as his Lord slowly walk towards
the forest.

"Tonight Elrond, your burdens will be lifted. I swear your heart will
learn how to love again. Tonight will be the last time you feel
alone, and a certain possession of yours will help me to win your
heart." Erestor whispered softly into the night air.
