Summary: Glorfindel wants to dance, but only with one other elf.
Dance with me.
“Dance with me?”
Erestor turned to face Glorfindel who stood before him. Serene and accepting was his expression as he waited for the advisor to speak, completely ignoring the frown offered in reply.
“Excuse me?”
They did this every time. Glorfindel would approach him, and ask him to dance, already knowing his answer. It perplexed Erestor as to why Glorfindel persisted with this futile endeavour. Though he never lashed out at the maddeningly polite gesture, although at times he wished to.
“I said dance with me, please.”
“Surely there must be someone else you would prefer to dance with Glorfindel.”
“No, I want to dance with you.”
Erestor looked to a spot somewhere in the distance that was of no particular interest or importance, exasperating the discomfort he felt at being asked such a simple and ordinary question. Erestor had as always, stood away from the crowd. Not wanting to join the gathering, but still staying within hearing distance, as was his presence a necessity due to his position.
“No thank you.”
Erestor turned leaning on the pillar he stood by so as to be facing away from Glorfindel and the crowd. Directing all his attention to the glass in his hand before looking up to search for another spot in the distance. Desperately wanting Glorfindel to leave him be. It was not to be though. Casually Glorfindel blocked his line of vision as he moved to lean on the very same pillar. Obscuring that oh so fascinating view and moving into his personal space.
“Why do you persist?” Erestor asked with a cool passive indifference that he was well known for. And that which did not phase Glorfindel in the mildest sort of way.
No matter the frustration he would feel he would not lash out at Glorfindel, even if that was his want he could not bring himself to be angry. Glorfindel was not obnoxious, he was not rude nor was he uncouth. He was simply persistent.
“Because, I wish to dance with you.”
“I have no great talent for dancing Glorfindel.”
“I don’t care.”
A hearty cheer came from the crowd of dancing elves, drawing Erestor’s attention to the lively group. Glorfindel followed the advisors gaze for a moment, before he glanced back to observe Erestor. The advisor clearly disliked these gatherings.
“If you will not dance with me than at least walk with me.”
“Walking I am not adverse to.” The advisor sighed as he set his glass down on a near by table. He would endure Glorfindel’s polite and in fact delightful company if it meant he could leave the venue for solace and fresh air.
They had been walking a small while and the noise and lights were now behind them. They walked in the garden, it was dark but the stars provided enough light to discern each other. There had been a pleasant silence between them. Glorfindel had at one point plucked a large leaf from an overhanging branch and began to distractedly and slowly rip it apart as his mind obviously wandered. Erestor watched curiously as his own hands were tucked snugly into his sleeves. Their eyes met when there was nothing left of the leaf to rip apart . And for the first time Erestor saw what he thought to be slight insecurity in the blue eyes.
“So what is it then?” The blond asked as he snagged another leaf and began his destruction upon the foliage anew, his eyes trained upon his task and casually avoiding the dark gaze.
“I’m sorry?”
“What is it I lack?”
“You lack? What ever could you mean?”
“It is alright Erestor…” Glorfindel let the leaf fall discarded to the ground as he moved to stand before Erestor, so as they had both stopped beneath one of the apple trees. Shyly he pulled one of Erestor’s hands from within the dark sleeves and sweetly fiddled with the slim fingers, “…just tell me what it is I lack, and I will amend it.” He spoke neither angrily or desperately, there was still the slight hint of insecurity in his voice as he dared to meet Erestor’s questioning look, but never impatience or anger. “Perhaps then you will dance with me?”
“Glorfindel I…” Temporarily Erestor felt flabbergasted.
“It’s alright, just tell me.”
“You lack nothing Glorfindel! How can you say such a thing?”
“Because you will not dance with me! There must be something.”
“You are maddening!”
“Why? What is it about me that enrages you?”
Erestor sighed annoyed, pulling his hand from the gentle grasp he turned to walk away. But again Glorfindel moved to stand in front of him, this time securing him to the spot by holding him gently by the elbows.
“Erestor, let us just drop this charade, just for a moment. You know there is more to this than just dancing, in fact we have danced around each other for long enough I think. Now just tell me what it is I must change to gain your affection and I will do it.”
“Glorfindel…”
“No tell me, please. Do I…do I bore you?” He asked worriedly.
“Nay Glorfindel, you could never bore me.”
“Then am I to forward, or rude?”
“Nay, you are charming.”
“Well then…is it, are you just not attracted to me then?” Glorfindel asked quietly as his shoulders sagged, a sad look upon his face.
“Glorfindel, you are beautiful and you know it.”
“So you are attracted to me?” A small smile played upon his lips.
“Glorfindel please.” Erestor tried to move out of the grip, but the large hands held him firmly and persistently.
“Can you not just give me that? Please? Have mercy and ease my heart a little. Come Erestor why do you constantly turn from me?”
“Because!”
“Because what?” Glorfindel had to smile at the unusually childish reply from Erestor.
“Because Glorfindel…” Erestor swallowed before looking back up to Glorfindel sadly, the grin immediately disappearing from the blonds lips. “…because, I am all of those things.” He finished quietly. He continued when Glorfindel simply furrowed his brow in confusion.
“I *am* boring.”
“You are brilliant Erestor.” Glorfindel counter parted, pulling the advisor closer.
“I am rude.”
“You are sharp witted, and dare I say a little shy.” An affectionate smile spreading across the blonds face as he reached to gently touched a flushed cheek.
“I’m…I’m not…”
“Don’t you dare say what I think you’re about to say.”
“I do not look like others Glorfindel, I am different I know this. Do not try to protect me from the truth.”
“Erestor..” Glorfindel adopted a completely serious tone and look as he cupped the advisors chin, demanding eye contact and attention. “ ‘tis true you do not look like others. You outshine them all.” The warrior smiled as sooty lashes looked downcast in embarrassment. “My heart thunders in my chest when I see you, such desire consumes me I..I feel as an adolescent again. And you are so smart and sweet and…Ai Erestor I simply adore you.” Gently Glorfindel let the tip of his thumb brush the long black lashes, making them flutter and dark brown eyes meet blue. “Why would you never dance with me?”
“Well, it would be embarrassing to be seen next to you.”
“Erestor…” The warrior began warningly, not willing to hear Erestor speak lowly of himself.
“But mostly…I hate crowds.”
Both smiled and even laughed lightly at the truth.
“I had guessed that much, but persisted none the less.”
Silence reigned between them for a moment. Glorfindel cleared his throat nervously, he had just bared some of his most private thoughts and feelings, and Erestor was yet to comment or share his own.
“What are you thinking Erestor”
“I am thinking…I am hungry.” Erestor said simply, looking up where apples hung from the branches above him. Glorfindel looked above him at the ample apples, which hung and swayed in the breeze, out of both of their reaches.
“Come then.” Not giving Erestor a chance to protest Glorfindel picked up the slighter elf by the waist and held him so that his face was pressed into the advisors chest.
“Glorfindel!” Erestor had squawked as he pressed down onto strong broad shoulders.
“I thought you were hungry?” Glorfindel grinned when he heard Erestor chuckle, no giggle above him.
“Do you want one?”
“No I’ll share yours if that’s alright..” there was a pause and Glorfindel wondered what it was that was taking so long. “…what are you doing up there?”
“I’m trying to find a large one…ah that one!” Erestor tugged at one particularly voluptuous looking apple, large and red. Only to feel resistance as the stem refused to break.
Glorfindel could feel Erestor tugging on the stubborn fruit and could see the branch and leaves swaying under the onslaught. He laughed into the advisors chest hearing him grunt in exertion from battling the tree.
“Do not tell me you are bested by a piece of fruit Erestor!”
“It will not come loose!” The advisor chuckled from above.
“Then pull harder!”
With one almighty tug the fruit came free, Erestor laughed in triumph as Glorfindel tried not to drop him after the tug had off balanced them both. Unfortunately after the apple had come free the branch had snapped back, sending the two elves crashing to the floor. They had both landed with a thud, Glorfindel with his heavier frame upon Erestor. He knew he needed to move less he crush the advisor, but found himself unwilling to. Erestor had shifted in his arms just before they had hit the ground, so they now lay with mere inches between their faces. Glorfindel could practically feel the heat radiate from Erestor’s flushed cheeks and smiled apologetically, yet still did not move. Erestor was beautiful, his black hair fanned out upon the grass. His lips quivered slightly as if he was trying to find something to say. Glorfindel could feel the chest beneath him rising and falling rapidly, and he could feel Erestor’s sweet breath upon his lips.
Erestor blindly moved his left hand as it felt along the ground until it found the apple, blond hair falling either side of him, obscuring his view. “Got it.” He said in a small voice, holding the apple up for Glorfindel to see.
The warrior smiled adoringly and tucked his hair behind one ear so to see the apple before taking a small bite. He smiled as Erestor watched mesmerised the blond chew and then swallow.
“Good?” Came the small voice again.
“Taste it.”
Erestor brought the fruit to his lips but was denied his bite as Glorfindel took the apple from his hand and let it fall to the ground. Erestor swallowed and licked his lips nervously as he saw Glorfindel look at him hopefully before leaning closer. He closed his eyes in anticipation but still gasped when soft lips brushed against his own. He did indeed taste of apples.
He tasted sweet, so sweet. He could not help but smile into the kiss as Erestor’s apparently less experienced lips shyly attempted to join his own. He kept the kiss sweet and innocent, not wishing to overwhelm Erestor. But was unable to tear his lips away. It was when hearing the small whimper that he had mercy on the sweet tasting elf and pulled away, granting Erestor breath.
They simply looked at one another for a few moments, Glorfindel thought he could laugh with joy as he softly brushed Erestor’s cheek only for the dark elf to close his eyes and lean into the touch.
Erestor had never felt so light headed in his life. He had not realise that he had began to giggle until he could hear Glorfindel chuckle along with him. He knew not why they laughed, but he knew that it had been a long time since he had felt anything near as content as he felt now. Glorfindel had literally swept him off of his feet. Stars shone through swaying branches above him, the sound of the wind blowing through the leaves creating a peaceful atmosphere. But all he could see was Glorfindel, he was as always beautiful. But he thought that he had never truly seen how beautiful and loving the elf was that lay atop of him. Those blue eyes were open and loving, and they were looking only at him.
“Glorfindel?”
“Hmm?”
“Dance with me” He whispered.
A wide smile spread across the blonds lips as he moved off of the advisor, pulling Erestor to his feet. He bowed formally making Erestor laugh before placing a hand at the advisors hip. When he reached for Erestor’s hand he was denied. As Erestor hesitantly and slowly let his arms travel up the warriors arms to shyly wrap around Glorfindel’s neck. Glorfindel smiled and pulled Erestor’s body against his own by the waist, encouraging Erestor to come nearer.
Erestor moved closer and held on tightly as he let his head first nuzzle into Glorfindel’s neck to inhale his sweet individual scent, and then rest upon the strong shoulder. Enjoying the sensation of Glorfindel holding him as if he were precious, large hands rubbing up and down his back he sighed contently. And then they slowly began to sway in a slow loving dance, no actual steps used as they simply enjoyed the closeness of each other.
They had ceased dancing around each other and finally danced together.
The end.
