~*~*~*~*~*
Haldir rode slowly toward Imladris hoping he would make it before he passed out. For many days he had felt sick, nauseated, tired, and cranky. But his lord needed him to go to Imladris. He didn't trust anyone else with this missive, he told Haldir. So Haldir went, trying to ignore his growing feelings of illness. Darkness swam before his eyes as a wave of nausea rolled over him. Moaning, Haldir dismounted and emptied his stomach onto the ground. Grimicing at the pain in his ankles he tried to stand. He fell back onto his knees sobbing and cursing. He heard hoofbeats approaching him and he wondered who was coming and why.
~*~*~*~*~*
Elladan and Elrohir were out for a morning ride when they sighted a horse. With no rider. Confused, they spurred their horses to ride faster untill they reached the riderless horse. They saw a Galadhrim kneeling beside his horse, crying and cursing. They dismounted and knelt next to the fallen elf.
"Are you alright?"
Haldir started at the voice; he had forgotten about the hoofbeats in favor of trying to stay consious.
"Do I look alright to you?" he snapped.
Elrohir smiled at the caustic voice. "Why yes you do, Haldir, because when you're injured you're much more civil."
Haldir managed a slight laugh before he moaned again. Elladan looked at his twin. Something was not right here. Elves did not get sick unless...but no, that wouldn't happen to Haldir. Would it? Shrugging, Elladan helped the March Warden to his feet. Elladan helped Haldir mount the twin's horse so he could ride with him. Haldir thought about protesting but he felt too sick. Elladan rubbed his back in a soothing manner.
"We are but a hour's ride from home. If you feel the need to stop, tell me and we will." Elladan said as his brother mounted his horse and guided Haldir's as well.
"Diola lle." Haldir mumbled.
The twins laughed. "You must be bad off if you're actually apologizing!' Elrohir teased, trying to lighten the situation.
Haldir glared at the younger half elf muttering something about dwarves, chains and torture. They rode in silence, stopping only once for Haldir. Elrohir rode ahead to let his father know Haldir had arrived and quit decidedly, was ill. Elrond was waiting for them when they arrived. He looked concerned and very scared*. Elladan handed the Galadhrim to his adar before dismounting. Elrond told his sons to bathe and change into clean clothes, departing for the Healing wing.
~*~*~*~*~*
Elrond stared at the sleeping elf, contemplating what to tell him when he awoke. He had finished his examination aw ago ago and was shocked at what he had found. It wasn't unheard of, but rare among elves, especially Silvan elves. But how was he going to tell Haldir that he was going to have a baby? Haldir was cold and distant on a good day and on a bad day well...Elrond didn't want to even think about that. He wondered who the other father was and why no one had suspected anything. Galadriel was a great healer and Haldir's mother*. How come she didn't know or at the very least suspect? Did Haldir really spend that much time away from home? Elrond sighed as he saw Haldir was beginning to wake up. This should be interesting, he thought wryly.
"How do you feel Haldir?" he asked kindly.
"Sick, tired, and why am I here?" Haldir demanded, somewhat distraught, although he'd never admit to it.
"You fainted on the way here. My sons brought you to me because you are sick." Elrond explained gently, sitting next to Haldir.
"Elves do not get sick!" exclaimed Haldir, indignantly.
"Tell me, what have your symptoms been?" Elrond ignored the earlier outburst.
"Nausea, tiredness, dizzy spells, sometimes I am ravenous, and I have fainted once or twice." Haldir muttered, ashamed at his weakness.
"I believe I know what's wrong with you." Elrond said, getting up and stepping back a pace.
"What?"
"You're pregnant."
"I'M WHAT?????" Haldir yelled, sitting up.
"Pregnant. It is not unheard of for elven males to be fertile." Elrond explained, making Haldir lay back down.
"No, no, no, no, no, no......" Haldir whispered, as tears rolled down his face. He was really confused now.
"Shhhh...It's alright." Elrond said as he held Haldir.
Haldir sobbed, wondering what he was going to tell the father. What did one say or do? 'Guess what, I'm pregnant?' Yeah, that wouldn't give him a massive heart attack. What would his brothers say? Would he have to give up being Captain of the Lady's Galadhrim? The worries were endless, as were his tears.
"Who is the other father?" Elrond asked quietly.
"C...Celeborn." Haldir whispered brokenly.
Elrond laid Haldir back onto the bed and made a sleeping draught. He told Haldir he was going to let the Lord and Lady know so they could come and be with him. Haldir nodded gratefully. He sure didn't want to be the one to tell them. Haldir drank the draught and promptly fell into a deep restful sleep.
~*~*~*~*~*~
Elrond went into his study and closed the door quietly. He walked out onto the balcony and faced the direction of Lorien. He closed his eyes and concentrated on Galadriel. He felt his mind brush hers ever so softly.
*Elrond? What's wrong?* she asked, startled.
*Is Celeborn around?*
*Yes, he is here, listening in.*
*Good.*
*What ever is the matter?* came Celeborn's voice.
*Haldir fainted on the way here.*
*Is he well?* Galadriel's voice was concerned.
*Yes but upon exationtion of him I found something...odd.*
*What?* Celeborn was trying to keep the impatience out of his voice.
*He's pregnant.*
Utter silence greeted his last remark.
*PREGNANT???* Galadriel was utterly aghast.
*Yes and he says well that...um...*
*What?*
*Celeborn is the other father.*
*We are on our way.*
*Galadriel, did you know about him and Haldir?*
*Yes. We have an agreement. He has his lover, and I have mine. I will explain more when I arrive. We are on our way. Tell Haldir we love him and I am not angry.* A slight laugh was heard. *Whenever something happens between him and Celeborn, he thinks I will kill him.*
Elrond laughed and severed the connection. He was startled by the sound of someone knocking.
"Come." he called.
The twins entered. "Is Haldir ok? He really scared us."
"Sit down, I must tell you something..."
TBC.
