It was a world of beauty turned into a world of fire. Darkness had settled over the land of men, tipping their favour away from their allies and towards the lord of all that was evil. Elves had stepped back, keenly aware of how vulnerable they were at such a black time. They hid in the forests and caves, watching from afar, and soon fell into a life of blindness. It had been years now, a lifetime for man. Eyes were once again opening, gazes falling to the south where Rohan and Gondor trembled with power. The darkness of Mordor had binded them together, forced every world of man to unite in a single purpose. The dwarves had awakened the elves to what was imminent, the threat that loomed over them. It was time now to end the petty rivalries that had surfaced during the years spent in isolation.
Turning an oblivious eye, though, had weakened the elves. As preparations for meetings began, the realm of Lothlorien had quickly fallen under an unexpected assault from Sauron's dark army. Men had infiltrated the Golden Wood, torn through the trees and set the grass ablaze. Most had perished in the attack. The lady and lord of Lorien had been among them.
The unyielding destruction of Lothlorien made the elves aware of just how in peril they were. With an escort of tens, the King of Mirkwood set out to Imladris, to speak with the lord of that realm. Existence in Middle-earth depended on the unification of the remaining few, and the unification of all races that still belonged to the light.
