“You are kidding right?” a shocked Billy asked Dom, who had just ended his conversation with Orlando on his cell.
“No, we’re almost there, just a few streets more.” Dom towed his suitcase along on its little wheels.
“Cause this is, uh, a kind of scary neighborhood. “
“Oh Billy, will you relax already? Those women won’t hurt you, just keep on walking. Besides, you know Orli, he always says that everybody’s got to make a living.”

Billy thought that Dom had a good point there. Still a bit anxious, he followed Dominic while the red lights were reflecting on the two men with their luggage. “So we’re almost at the hotel?”
“Yeah, just look out for a street called “Warmoesstraat”. Billy repeated the name softly and almost broke his tongue doing it.

“See? We’re here. Hotel Centrum Amsterdam. I bet Orli and Lij are already planning out where we’re going tonight.”
Billy looked at the front of the small hotel and nearly bumped into one of those little bloody bordeaux-red poles that were outside the entrance-door. Dom was laughing his arse off, while Billy was cursing.

They checked in and went to their rooms. Not that luxurious, but they would do nicely for their three-day stay. Orlando had been here before and suggested coming down here and they all had liked that idea very much. Billy had never been to the Netherlands before, neither had Lij. Dom had kidded that it would be very like Scotland, with the awful weather and the infamous cheapskate mentality. Billy had of course kicked Dom’s ass for that comment.

Orli and Lij were in Orli’s room, checking out brochures and a map, just like Dom had predicted. When Billy and Dom entered, they were received with enthusiastic screams, hugs and headbuttings.
“Want a beer?” Orlando asked. “We already did some shopping.”
“Sure!” they both replied. “You really went out to a supermarket?”
“Yep, and the best part: nobody came up to us! Relaxed man!” Billy snorted at that last Jamaican-like remark.

They decided to go out to dinner and after that they wound up at some student-discotheque that they had been referred to by the woman at the reception of the hotel. She had described the famous Leidseplein to them as “a touristtrap, filled with fucking loud, drunk-out-of-their-skull provincials celebrating their pathetic cliché stagnight.” She added, that, since “the gentlemen are famous, right”? That they were sure to be sorry if they would show their faces around that lot. So they graciously took her advice and avoided that particular square.

The music was pumping and the atmosphere was great. Billy was holding a beer in his hand, while he was leaning with his back on a high table. He took another sip and checked out what Dommie and Lij were doing on the dancefloor. Well, dancing like idiots of course, much to the entertainment of the girls and even some glaring boys. The DJ played almost every request, and so it could happen that the music changed from modern R&B to a song from Billy’s own teens. God, he was glad that period of his life was over. He was happier now, then he’d ever had been. He always divided songs in ones from before and after; this one was an “after-song”. He pushed the memories away; tonight was a night of fun, not about tears.

Orli went for more beer and left Billy smiling at the lyrics.

“You've got style, that's what all the girls say
Satin sheets and luxuries so fine
All your suits are custom made in London”

“Or Stockholm”, Billy thought.

“But I've got something that you'll really like”

Billy wondered hong ang ago he fell in love with his mate, while he glanced over the dancefloor. Seemed an awful long time ago. Had it begun in the tree? He didn’t remember.
At first, he thought those butterfly causing feelings would pass and that it was just an infatuation of some kind, but no such luck. It was even getting worse and worse by the day, much to his desperation.

It was busy at the bar, so it would take a while for Orlando to come back. Billy finished his beer and went over to the floor to join the silly wankers and party like there was no tomorrow.

“Let me cover you with velvet kisses…” “If only”, Billy thought and he looked slightly unhappy.
Dom immediately picked up on that by asking him if everything was okay. Billy flat out lied, displaying a big grin on his face. Once an actor, always an actor, right? Dom softly stroked his face and Billy felt his spine tingling and his cheeks flushing. He managed to produce a casual grimace.

The music switched to a Pointer-Sisters-song. Lyrics like “and I know, I know, I know, I know, I know I want you” didn’t exactly help, but Billy managed to keep a straight face for the rest of the evening.
