I love you. Always.

A/N: Boo… No reviews! Another update in any case, I felt inspired!

Chapter 9: I love you. Always.

Though Legolas’ heart initially filled with a sense of content happiness of having his beloved return to his side, there was a greater sense of hesitation and guilt he felt over approaching him.

Together with Aragorn he rushed to the gates where troops of Elves gathered with the proud Marchwarden leading them on.

Legolas heard the Elf’s voice as he spoke, “I bring word from Lord Elrond of Rivendell. An Alliance once existed between Elves and Men. Long ago we fought and died together. We come to honour that allegiance”

It was an unexpected news that no one had expected. A light in the dark; their saviour.

Legolas watched as Aragorn greeted the elf with a hug and words of welcome. Their last encounter seemed to have been forgotten by the ranger whose focus now solely rested upon the battle.

Legolas’ breath came to a halt as Haldir’s eyes met his and the Marchwarden spoke again, “We’re proud to fight alongside Men once more”

Though the Mirkwood Prince felt hesitation in approaching the Marchwarden, he moved over to the Elf and kissed him shortly.

It was a detail that wasn’t lost on the Lothlorien Elf who raised a curious brow at the prince.

Legolas knew there was hardly room for conversation and what was more important he couldn’t distract Haldir with the details of what had happened between him and Aragorn; it would only hinder the Elf in battle and fill him with anger directed toward the ranger.

Haldir instructed his brothers to lead the Elves and guide them to their best positions while he urged Legolas into one of the passages where they stood alone, “I’ve missed you, lirimaer. The Lord Celeborn wouldn’t have me leave the Heart of Elvendome, but he knew he couldn’t stop me from following after my heart, not with such stakes. I wouldn’t forgive myself if anything happened to you and I didn’t do my best to stop it”

A look of guilt passed the younger Elf’s face, but Legolas masked it as he pressed another kiss to the Marchwarden’s lips, “It is good to have you here, Haldir. We wouldn’t have survived the night. Now, at least we stand a chance, however small it is”

Haldir brushed his hand along the prince’s body, slipping into the youth’s leggings as he stroked Legolas’ privates, “Then our last moments should be with loving memories”

A wanton moan escaped the prince who bucked into the Elder’s hand and pressed against the hard body, “Let me touch you, Haldir”

A smaller hand fumbled with the laces of the Marchwarden’s leggings before his cock too was grasped and stroked.

Their heads rested against one another’s as light moans of pleasure escaped them, but for Haldir the Prince’s sounds of pleasure weren’t enough. He wanted to see.

Slowly, one by one he unbuttoned Legolas’ tunic, revealing the beautiful pale flesh, but a frown of anger and concern came to the elder’s face, “Legolas… Who did this to you?”

Thoughts of passion were all but forgotten as the prince panicked, having forgotten all about the marks that still bruised his flesh. He didn’t have to speak for Haldir to know, “I shall kill him. Before the end of night his blood shall colour the sand”

Legolas’ eyes filled with fear for a moment before he used all his strength to keep Haldir from rushing out of the passage and to Aragorn, “Saes Haldir, do not blame him for this. I needed this. We both did… The darkness that ate at my soul, it needed the punishment he gave me. We both had to give in to that darkness to overcome it. No fault is his more than it is mine.”

Haldir frowned, looking at the youth, “Why did you not tell me?”

Legolas bit his lip and looked down, “I did not want you to think less of me…”

The Marchwarden cupped the prince’s face, forcing his head up so he could look into his eyes, “Nothing could ever make me feel less of you. The effects of battle can weigh heavy upon one’s soul. I would never think less of you for seeking such comfort my sweet prince”

As if to add proof for those words the Marchwarden claimed the prince’s lips, gently at first but increasing in passion with each passing moment, “I love you. Always.”

Legolas smiled, “And I you, Haldir.”

Still Legolas dared not tell Haldir of the second intimate encounter he had shared with Aragorn, still afraid the Elf’s understanding would turn into anger if he knew.

It was his guilt to bear that, not to give Haldir more cause for concern or anger.

For now, none of that anger was present as they made sure that should they die that night they would’ve done so with their best, loving memory kept in mind.

Their coupling was short, because battle was upon them and both of them were needed to take the lead of the elves now strengthening their ranks.

As they stood within the keep upon the stone walls, Legolas couldn’t help but note the vast amount of Uruk-Hai below them.

Gimli’s attempts at making light of things were appreciated, but not necessarily helpful.

Battle commenced shortly after and all too soon Legolas found himself dragged away from Haldir and Gimli’s side, fighting on his own with no way to focus upon either of them.

He couldn’t stop to think about their safety; to do so he’d forsake his own.

Aragorn shouted at him, he heard the voice call out over the noise of battle, “Dago Han!” The urge to kill the Uruk-Hai below, bearing a Torch, wasn’t lost on him, but though he shot and hit the mark, it didn’t stop the creature. Another arrow flew into the creature but it stumbled on and fell out of sight, bringing down the wall of Helm’s Deep with it. The city that couldn’t be breached had lost its one advantage as Uruk-Hai stormed in.

Legolas watched in relief as Aragorn pushed up and was aided by the Elves to keep the Uruk-Hai at bay, aided by Gimli who was soon trampled by the mass.

The battle seemed to play out in slow-motion, the battle seemingly never-ending before Legolas heard Aragorn’s command to fall back to the keep.

Dragging Gimli along, Legolas closed the gap until he heard Aragorn’s cry, “HALDIR!”

The world seemed to freeze as the prince whirled around to see his beloved fall to his knees on the other side of the keep.

Aragorn found him, but Legolas knew –as Aragorn took the ladder and jumped- that it was too late.

Haldir’s light had faded and the Elf was lost to the world.

A cry of utter pain and heartbreak left the young elf who had forsaken the command to fall back as Legolas fell back into battle with a roar of anger so strong it seemed to intimidate the Uruk-Hai in his path.

It was Aragorn who dragged him along and out of his rampage, despite the Elf’s struggles, “Legolas! Legolas there’s nothing more you can do for him! Your death shall not bring him back. Cease! We cannot win this if we lose you, too”

Legolas shot the Man a look so dark that suggested he truly couldn't care less, but moved along.

They locked themselves inside the keep, discussing tactics and methods, but Legolas couldn’t get himself to care.

Your death shall not bring him back. We cannot win this if we lose you.

Those words echoed through the Prince’s mind, speaking to his sense of responsibility and honour.

Aragorn was right; he couldn’t fail them. Death for him could come later, for life without his beloved was no life at all.

With that thought in mind, he joined his friends in combat as they rode out and faced their foes. The White Wizard joined them together with the Rohirrim and defeated the Uruk-Hai.

They celebrated their victory, but Legolas couldn’t feel compelled to join them.

He sat in between the many bodies that coloured the battlefield, cradling the fallen body of the Marchwarden, “It should’ve been me… What will I ever do without you? How could you leave me?”

Sadness turned to anger, turned to guilt, turned to pain.

Nothing could break him away from Haldir’s body.
