Summary: Glorfindel tries to break some news to his husband.
A/N: Part of the House and Home series. Occurs before “Boots.”
Glorfindel knocked on the council room door. He knew his husband was deep in the trenches of a trade agreement, but this really couldn’t wait. He heard a voice bid him enter, and he opened the door but did not truly enter the room. Erestor and Elrond sat at a long conference table with several dwarves taking up seats around them. These two elves were critical to the negotiations, as they spoke the dwarven language fluidly. Without them, the meetings would be stilted at best and impossible at worst.
Glorfindel cleared his throat and blushed under the scrutiny of the occupants of the room. Everything had gone quiet, and he felt intimated. “Erestor, could I please talk to you in private?”
Erestor scowled. “Now is not a good time, Glorfindel.” The dwarves shuffled impatiently around the table watching the exchange with poorly concealed irritation.
“Please, Erestor. Just a moment.”
“Just tell me now.”
“It’s a private matter. Please just meet with me a moment.”
“Bloody hell, Glorfindel! Go home and I’ll talk to you later.” Erestor turned his back to his husband and said to the dwarven contingent, “I’m sorry for the delay. Let us continue where we left off.”
“Erestor, please-”
“GLORFINDEL LEAVE!” Erestor shouted at the blond before clearing his throat and acting like nothing had happened. He started going over the contract where they had left off, ignoring the captain.
Glorfindel stood in the door for moment longer, tears welling up in his eyes and spilling over. The dwarf’s brows furrowed at the obvious sadness of the elf in the doorway. What was going on between the two bickering elves?
Tears of anger swiftly replaced tears of sadness sliding down Glorfindel’s cheeks. “I just thought you’d like to know that I’m pregnant, you bastard!” the warrior yelled before turning heel and running away as fast as he could. Erestor seemed to completely ignore Glorfindel’s outburst and didn’t lose a beat talking to the ambassadors.
“Erestor,” Elrond tried to cut into his councilor’s speech, but he was ignored as thoroughly as Glorfindel had been.
“Erestor,” he tried again. No response.
Elrond took the papers from Erestor’s hands and forced his friend to look at him.
“*What* Elrond?”
“Did you hear what he said?”
“Who said?”
“Glorfindel!”
“I wasn’t paying attention, and it was not important. We’re in the middle of an important negotiation if you hadn’t noticed my Lord,” Erestor said as he gestured to the very confused looking dwarves around them.
Elrond gripped Erestor’s arms in his hands and made Erestor look at him. “Erestor, you are going to be a father. That is what Glorfindel said as he left.”
It took several moments for Erestor to digest the information. “Oh, fuck.” He stood abruptly, knocking over his chair and speeding out of the room faster than Elrond thought possible.
“May we ask what that was about?” queried one of the dwarves.
“It seems my councilor is going to be a father at long last.”
The two dwarf-women that were in on the council smiled happily at the news. “That is wonderful!” exclaimed one. “Who is the mother? Anyone we know?”
Elrond cleared his throat nervously. “You obviously saw the elf in the door.”
They nodded. “Was that the lucky mother’s messenger?”
“No…that…would be the lucky mother.”
The dwarves were stunned silent for a long while before one of them shuffled a stack of papers, capturing everyone’s attention. “Methinks that your councilor is in for rough night at home, eh?”

Summary: Glorfindel breaks some news to Erestor.
A/N: Part of the House and Home Series. Comes before “Boots.”
Erestor entered his apartment that he shared with his husband. He stopped after he closed the door, listening for Glorfindel’s presence. It didn’t take him long to hear the sobs coming from their bedroom.
He reluctantly entered the bedroom, and his heart broke at the sight that greeted him. Glorfindel lay curled on the bed, facing away from him. The sheer misery in his sobs brought tears to Erestor’s own eyes. The large elf crossed the floor and lay down on the bed with his tiny husband, moving to spoon behind Glorfindel. Glorfindel continued to sob, and Erestor felt the little frame shuddering in his arms.
“I’m so sorry, my love. I hurt you. I was rude, and I was an evil bastard. I’m so sorry. I turned what should have been a beautiful moment into something hurtful.” Glorfindel stopped crying and lay quietly in the circle of Erestor’s arms, still sniffling quietly once in awhile. Erestor turned Glorfindel over until he could look into his husband’s eyes. “I was stupid, and I was an ass.” Glorfindel lifted a brow and sniffed. Erestor continued, “Can you forgive this bastard of an elf?”
Glorfindel stared into Erestor’s eyes for a long time before he finally said, “I guess I can forgive you. Sort of.”
Erestor sighed in relief and hugged his husband as close as he could without crushing the petite form. After many minutes, they pulled apart and Erestor smiled nervously. “So…we’re going to have a baby.”
Glorfindel snorted. “I’m going to have a baby, and you’re going to sit around and watch.”
Erestor caressed Glorfindel’s face lovingly, wiping away any remaining traces of tears. “I will do anything possible to make this easier on you. Elrond said that-”
“I know what Elrond said. I would have to take it easy. Slow down. Take some time off and on and on and on…”
“He only wants you and the babe to be healthy.”
“I know.”
They were quiet for a moment. Erestor lay his hand on Glorfindel’s abdomen and slowly stroked over the flat muscles. “There’s a baby in there,” he said with quiet awe in his voice.
“Erestor?” The dark haired elf looked up. “Are we really ready to be parents?”
“Well, we don’t have a choice now do we? We’ll have to be ready. For his sake.”
“Her sake.”
Erestor startled at this. “It’s a girl?”
Glorfindel nodded. “You…you’re not upset are you?”
“Oh, no. No darling. Just surprised. I wasn’t expecting a girl, but I know that I’ll love her more than I will ever be able to express in words. I already do.”
They embraced again, holding each other close and never wanting to let go. “Can I name her?” Glorfindel asked quietly.
“Of course, my love. Anything you want.”
“I can name her anything? No arguing?”
Erestor regarded his husband wearily. “I’m I going to regret this?”
Glorfindel blushed a little. “I want to name her Pearl.”
“You want to name her in Westron?”
“I just…like that word. I think it would suit her, to be named after such a beautiful object.”
“…really.”
“Yes, just think about it Erestor. A pearl is like our love. It started out as just a small grain, fragile yet determined. We nurtured that grain, letting it expand. It grew and grew over the years, and now, after all of our toils, we going to be blessed with a precious pearl.”
Erestor laughed. “That’s both incredibly sappy and incredibly fitting at the same time. I love you Glorfindel.”
Glorfindel smiled back, leaning in to kiss his beast of a husband. “I love you too, you bastard.” He chuckled at Erestor’s exasperated hurrumph.
