Chapter 9
Title: Reading Between the Lines (9/?)
Rating: NC-17
Pairing: Orophin/Erestor, Glorfindel/Lindir
Warnings: AU, sarcasm, bad pick up lines
Disclaimer: If they were mine I would be rich. Seeing as I am broke, they are obviously not mine. But good lord do they make dreams worth while!
Summary: Orophin's first visit to Imladris is fairly uneventful and boring until he stumbles upon a certain black haired advisor in the library. Now his goal is to win Erestor's heart before he heads home again.

Erestor stood before the library door straightening his clothes before going in. It had been some time since their panicked run from the rows of books within, and from the eyes of Elrond, but he still feared that Elrond would be inside. Or that anyone coming to the library would somehow know that he’d spent a rather passionate night on the floor with Orophin.
Finally gathering his courage, he held his head high and entered. A sigh of relief quickly escaped him when he was greeted only by Melpomaen. The young elf looked up when he heard him come in and smiled.
“Good morning! Did you have a good night?”
“Why? What did you hear?”
“Um… nothing. Is something wrong?”
“No. Of course not!” Erestor cursed himself in his head. Heading down a row of books, he tried to look busy while he gathered himself again.
“Erestor?”
“Yes, Melpomaen?”
“Elrond left a message for you on your desk. I found it when I came in.”
“Oh? What does it say?” Erestor tried to hide the squeak in his voice as he spoke.
“It just says that he would like to speak with you some time today.”
“Oh, alright. Thank you.”
Erestor moved down the row, trying to get his head on straight. He could not shake the feeling that they had been caught and Elrond wanted to reprimand him for it. But he tried to convince himself it was nothing more than an inquiry about the reports he should have continued working on as soon as he had stepped in to the library.
Remembering the hurried rush from the library, he looked around the floor for those shoes they had left behind. He swallowed hard when he realized they were gone.
“Melpomaen?”
“Yes?”
“I left a pair of shoes here last night. Did you find them this morning?”
“No, although I have not been away from the desk much yet.”
“Thank you.”
Erestor could feel his face burning a dark shade of red.

“Oh, Glorfindel! Good morning! Lovely clothes you have on today!”
“Thank you, Haldir. I am making a statement. Can you tell?”
“Color blindness is a serious illness?”
“No. Lindir is going to be the death of me.”
“Ah, yes. Now I can see it… loud and clear. Very loud, actually. What happened?”
“Melpomaen fell on me at a rather inopportune time. And Lindir saw it, but read it wrong.”
“Yes, fell on you.” Haldir winked playfully at the blushing warrior.
“Yes, fell. I tripped and he tried to catch me, but I am too heavy for him. Anyway, he landed on top of me and there was Lindir. And there I slept, outside my own rooms.”
“He is rather jealous, I see.”
“Too much so. Haldir, I am beginning to wonder what is happening between the two of us.”
“Trouble in paradise?”
“Always. Anymore it seems that way, anyhow. But I am thinking we need some time apart.”
“You love him, do you not?”
“Yes. With all my heart.”
“Then it will not help.”
“Why do you say that?”
“I had an argument with Celeborn one night that ended up with me staying in Rumil’s talan for several weeks. It did no good. We just got angrier at each other the longer we stayed away and had time to twist the facts in our own minds. And Rumil got just as angry when I walked in on him while he was… entertaining.”
“But you got back together, of course.”
“Oh yes. With the help of Rumil and a very large sword.”
“There is not a sword large enough to help this situation. If it is not one thing, it is something else. Haldir, I tell you, there are new rumors about me everyday. And I never know which ones he is going to believe or not. I cannot take much more of this.”
“You need to follow your heart and decide if it is worth saving.”
“I am not sure it is anymore. I cannot even tell you the last time we made love. He hardly lets me touch him anymore, and when he does it is just a tease. I have never bedded another while with him, but I am always in trouble for it. I am beginning to think it would not hurt to actually do it.”
“And who do you have in mind?”
“A few elves. But I am… having urges, if you understand me.”
“Well enough!”
“I am thinking easy prey.”
“Oh?”
“Yes. And your brother may have to step aside for a little while.”
Haldir raised his eyebrows at him in shock. “But Orophin is making good progress. Do you think it will be that easy?”
“Of course. He will not just shoo away so many years of fawning over me. Besides, you said your brother was not interested in more than a conquest. I am out for the same thing.”
“Glorfindel. I do not approve of my brother treating others in such a manner, and I must give the same protest to you. It is wrong.”
“Why? It is not like I am planning on getting my jollies and leaving him to finish himself. I will finish the act completely. We will both have our pleasure and he will finally win his own conquest.”
“Have you any idea how it makes an elf feel to be used in such a way?”
“I have always rather enjoyed it.”
“And Erestor is not you. Speaking from my own past, I can tell you, it is not usually pleasant to one who does not often enjoy bedding many once and moving on.”
“He will heal.”
“You think?”

“Fancy meeting you here,” Orophin smiled as he moved in next to Erestor in front of Elrond’s door.
“Oh no,” Erestor sighed, the sigh being cut short by an involuntary purr as Orophin stroked his back gently.
“Relax. Elrond is not known for being too rough. I am sure he will understand.”
“This is different. This is not a late report or missing meals. This is being caught on the library floor in a … unusual position.”
“Yes, but I have a list of far more unusual positions for us to try!”
“Orophin! Stop it! We may be in trouble here, you know. Anyway, I wish to speak to you after the meeting.”
“And I wish to speak to you before it. Step outside for just a moment.”
Erestor looked at him questioningly, but followed. Orophin sat down on the steps, patting the spot next to him. Sitting down, Erestor’s questioning expression never changed.
“I have a confession, and I want this off my chest before we meet with Elrond.”
“Alright.”
“Last night… it was not supposed to be that way.”
“Well, it was hardly romantic, but it…”
“That is not what I mean. Erestor… my intentions were not good ones last night. Or this entire trip.”
“What do you mean?”
“I mean… Erestor… I only wished to bed you once, for the experience.”
Erestor’s face suddenly flushed with pain and embarrassment as he turned his eyes away. “Oh.”
“Wait. Do not get upset yet, please?”
“How can I not? You take me as a… as a… a whore? I am not that kind of elf! And I am completely offended. Not offended, I am… I… Oh! I do not even know what I feel!”
“Erestor, let me finish.”
“Are you going to insult me further?” Tears burned at the edges of his eyes, threatening to set fire to his cheeks at any moment. Orophin looked at him and suddenly felt stupid for his confession.
“I do not mean to insult you. I only wanted to be honest, because I do not want this to damage us further. But Erestor… I felt something with you, something I did not expect. And I do not want this to be a one time thing.”
“But you did once.”
“Yes, I did. And that is my own stupid fault. But you won me over. I do not know how or why, but you did, and Erestor… I want you. I want you more than once. And I want to know what can become of us both.”
“What?”
“I would like to court you, if you will have the stupidest elf alive next to you.”
Erestor smiled, trying not to giggle like an elfling as the tears that once threatened his face retreated again. “I would not mind giving you a chance, as long as this honesty remains.”
“And it will. I have never felt this way about another.” Without waiting for a response, he took the advisor’s mouth in a tender kiss, savoring the taste of spice once again.

The two elves looked down at the ground at their shoes, set neatly before Elrond’s desk.
“Did you two have fun last night in the library?”
Erestor did not respond or look up. It was Orophin who made eye contact and responded. “Yes, actually, we did. Erestor has a beautiful speaking voice, and I will admit he put me to sleep while reading to me. And I am not easily roused from slumber once I give in.”
“And the run from the library this morning?”
“Ah, yes. I do apologize for that. But we both feared you would assume the worst if you found us.”
“And I did assume the worst. I still assume it. I cannot, however, prove you did something against my liking, so I will let it slide this time. But let it be known that my library is not a place for physical activity not involving books.”
“Yes, me and Erestor both promise to never do chin ups on the bookshelves again, my lord.”
Elrond raised an eyebrow at him, trying to stifle a laugh. “Yes, well, as much as I would give to see Erestor do a chin up, still. Remember… keep your play inside your rooms.”
“Aye, my lord,” they answered together.
