Chapter 8

4 Hours Later

Aragorn knocked on the healing room door.

"Come in."

Walking into the room, "How is he?"

"I have healed all of his injuries but he has yet to wake up." Looking up at Aragorn, "Did anyone see anything as to what might have happened?"

"Not so far. Adar you should go get something to eat. I will stay with him for a while."

Shaking his head, "No, I am not going to leave him. I want to be here when he wakes up."

Sighing, "All right." He turned and left. Elrond laid his hand against his forehead to check his body temperature. Arthon’s body felt warm which was a good sign. A little bit later Aragorn brought in a tray of food for Elrond. He set it on the table then walked up to his father, "Still no change?"

"No, he is the same."

"Don’t worry adar he will be ok. I have brought you some food. You should eat something."

Elrond got up, walked over to the table and looked at the tray. He only grabbed a couple pieces of fruit.

Aragorn looked over at Arthon, "Some one said that the bridge at the top of the mountain is gone."

"What?"

"They are not sure what happened and they didn’t see anything. Haldir and I are going up there in the morning to see."

Nodding, "Why is Haldir here anyway?"

"I asked him to come here."

Elrond didn’t say anything. He watched Aragorn leave and wondered if his son had feelings for Haldir. He went back to his seat at Arthon’s bedside and began to doze off.

Arthon slowly opened his eyes and looked around. He was in a room, which he assumed was one of the healing rooms. It was dark outside and the room was only being lit by a couple of candles. Elrond was sitting in the chair by his bed sound asleep. Arthon sat up groaning slightly at the discomfort in his head. It wasn’t painful it just made him dizzy. He reached over and gently shook his father, "Adar wake up."

Opening his eyes, "Son you are awake. How do you feel?"

My head hurts a little, but other than that I am ok."

"Do you remember what happened to you?"

Closing his eyes for a moment to think, "No, I don’t."

"OK. Don’t worry about it, it will return in time."

Elrond leaned over and kissed him on the lips. Arthon’s left hand immediately went up to the back of his father’s head to press him closer deepening the kiss. Finally Elrond broke the kiss, "I was so worried that I was going to loose you."

"You are not going to loose me adar. I am so tired."

"Then rest meleth nin. There will be time to talk later."

Arthon closed his eyes and fell back asleep. Elrond got up and left the room, he needed to stretch his legs. He walked outside and saw Aragorn walking towards him, "How is he?"

"He just went back to sleep."

"Does he remember what happened?"

"No."

"Have you seen Anteru anywhere?"

"No, I have not seen him since this morning, Why?"

"Just wondering. You don’t think that he had something to do with Arthon’s injuries do you?"

Elrond looked at him, "No, Anteru and Arthon may not have gotten along but I doubt that he would go this far."

"You can’t tell me that the thought hasn’t crossed your mind. Anteru disappears and Arthon ends up injured."

It actually hadn’t crossed his mind. Yes, he had sent Arthon to Lorien to keep him from being harassed, but he never thought that Anteru would go as far as to actually try to kill his brother, "No it hasn’t."

Aragorn sighed, "Well he had better show up soon because it makes him look guilty."

Aragorn left, leaving Elrond lost in his own thoughts. Would Anteru actually go this far? Aragorn was right about one thing though, Anteru’s disappearance did make him look guilty. Elrond made a note to himself that he would have to have a talk with him when he did show up. He walked back into the room and lay down next to his son on the bed. Arthon instinctively cuddled up against him and Elrond wrapped his arms around him and fell asleep.
