AFF.net replies:

Lairewen: I find the plot still fairly thin, but that could just be me.;) Thanks for the invite, but I'm not really that interested right now.

S: Hm, I'm not too sure if I'm going to put all the details about the other Legolas' death. Leaves more to the imagination. The souls, well, that's a deciding plot point. I'm still factoring it into the story.

FF.net replies:

Legolas19: What a coincidence, I have no idea what's going to happen.

Within the depths of Eryn Lasgalen, Thranduil looked up from his work as the twin sons of Elrond entered the study. A sudden feeling of dread came over the Elf-King and he stood. "It is Legolas."

The twins nodded sadly. "He is missing," Elrohir stated.

"I have felt his loss," Thranduil said. "Has nothing been found?"

The twins shook their heads. "Searches?" Thranduil asked, preparing ways to tell his guards to join in or start any.

Elladan nodded, "The Marchwardens of Lothlorien are searching. As well as the troop under the command of King Elessar, Faramir of Ithilien, and Eomer of Rohan. Our father has sent word to Cirdan to begin a search near the coasts and west of the Misty Mountains."

Thranduil nodded, feelinatefateful for the work already being done. "My soldiers are at your disposal."

The twins looked at each other and Elrohir spoke. "Actually, Lord Thranduil, we may have need of them within the forest. We believe that there may be something in Eryn Lasgalen that could help. And your trackers are the best we know of, so, along with the Dunedain, we wish to thoroughly search the forest of Fangorn. It is where Legolas was last supposed to be."

Thranduil nodded, "Whatever help you may need to find my son, it is yours."

Legolas sat at thee ofe of the camp, looking back at the distant darkness that was the forest. Elrohir sat next to him. Behind them, the camp was in action, preparing for the night.

Glorfindel and Hladir had left Elrohir to keep an eye on Legolas' wounds. Elladan went from helping the group and keeping an eye on his brother and friend.

"It does not seem so dark from here," Elrohir muttered.

Legolas smiled slightly, "The forest was not evil. It fought, and still is fighting, against the Dark Lord."

Elrohir looked at his friend, "And how do you know that?"

"My father told me."

The younger twin didn't question, and Legolas didn't seem interested in elaborating.

The mist moving through Mirkwood dissipated slightly, the figures moving through the forest to the ruins within. Where they walked, no shadow lingered.

***************

The ruins of Imladris appeared as they had before, a broken city sheltered by the valley. Rather than the shock it was, and still should have been, Legolas was grateful to see the crumbling walls.

The ache in his side had lessened, thanks to Glorfindel, but Legolas fully intended to just rest until the ache left completely. Elrohir walked next to him, and had been by his side since they left the forest.

"How are you feeling?" Elrohir asked quietly, mistaking Legolas' silence for suppressed pain.

Legolas smiled in reassurance, "I look forward to a bed and rest."

The younger twin smiled, "Indeed. I think that that can be done, and I would be more than happy to join you."

Legolas chuckled, and the two happily caught up to Elladan and Haldir to tell them of the latest plans. Glorfindel shook his head in amusement and reminded Legolas that he would need to see Elrond. Elrohir patted Legolas' shoulder with a promise to meet with him later, and Legolas followed Glorfindel.

While the younger Elf was getting checked over by Elrond, as well as telling his story, Glorfindel reported to Celeborn.

"A Maiar spirit?" Elrond asked, handing Legolas a salve to rub onto any sore muscles. "Forgive my skepticism."

Legolas shrugged, "I cannot say that I am sure of what I saw. But I do not believe that the forest is completely taken by Shadow."

"The forest was one of the last places to fall," Elrond said, seeming like he had heard the argument before. "It would still have some lingering light. Elves are not easily forgotten by the land."

"It is more than that... I do not think the Elves are truly gone from that place. Perhaps their spirits linger?"

"I would not be surprised, Legolas," Elrond examined Legolas' bruised wrist. "But that is not so unusual for the victims of a war."

Legolas sighed, "I do not think it was like that."

Elrond looked at the younger Elf, "Legolas, I do not know what the world you came from is like, but I do know this one. And I do not hold out much hope that the darkness can be deafeated just by your arrival."

Legolas made his way to the door, "Perhaps you do not know this world as well as you think?"

The younger Elf had vanished out the door before Elrond could reply.

*******

"And you saw nothing else?" Celeborn asked.

Glorfinshooshook his head, "No. Legolas stepped from the mist, wounded, but alive."

Celeborn frowned, "That is unheard of."

"He also claims that the forest is not devoid of the light of Elves," Elrond said as he came up to the two.

Glorfindel thought for a moment, "Well, it did not seem as oppressive as it once did."

The other two Elflords looked at him and he tried to clarify. "I mean that the darkness did not seem so total. I thought the it was due to Legolas' presence, lifting our own spirits. Perhaps he had another effect?"

"Why does it always seem that there are more questions than answers with this one?" Elrond asked. The other two lords smirked.

I'm not entirely happy with this chapter, which is why I ended it here. Well, that and the fact that I'm listening to Blind Guardian and have a sudden urge to draw. ;)

Next chapter will see a bit more development and answers.
