Chapter 8.
“I’m happy when I have you the whole day, all mine.” Glorfindel said, smiling at Melpomaen.
“I’m happy too. What do you want to do? I assume that you have some duties to handle, even if Lord Erestor gave me a day off.”
“I need to supervise the Archers practicing, but everything else can wait until tomorrow.”
“I would love to come and watch, if that is all right to you.” Melpomaen asked hesitantly, a longing expression on his beautiful face.
“Of course you come with me, meleth (love). I don’t want to separate from you, not even for a moment.” Glorfindel said, wondering at Melpomaen’s sudden melancholy. He tried to think of what to do, to cheer him up.
“Are you familiar with archery, Mel? I could show you how to use a bow, if you want.” Glorfindel was surprised when he saw a dazzling smile splitting Mel’s face.
“My ada taught me archery, and I have missed it terribly. I haven’t had a opportunity to maintain my skills here in Imladris.”
“And why ever not? In my classes are some non-warriors who just want to learn how to defend themselves. If you really are interested, you are always welcome.” Glorfindel said, but was disappointed when Mel didn’t answer. After a moment’s hesitation, Glorfindel took the young elf into his arms.
“Would you tell me what is wrong? I don’t want any secrets between us, Mel nín.” He asked gently.
“I… just… I asked for that from one of soldiers, when I came to Imladris, but he said…. that they didn’t have time to teach some little cowards who hide behind others backs. ” Mel whispered sadly, remembering the humiliation he had felt.
“Oh Mel! You are not a coward. Don’t think so for one moment, because that’s nothing but a lie. Erestor isn’t a soldier either, but would you call him a coward?”
“Of course not. His sharp tongue and brilliant mind make him a deadly opponent.” Mel said.
“And, I can tell you that he is as deadly in the battlefield if necessary. His skill with the knives is incredible, even if he chose another path in his life."
“So… is it really all right for me to come? My skills are nothing special, but I wanted to learn more if that is possible.”
“Show me your skills, and let me decide if they are special or not. ‘You’ are special for me, no matter whatever you do.” Glorfindel whispered, pulled Melpomaen closer and kissed him softly.
“I love you so much. You are so good to me.” Mel breathed, enjoying Glorfindel’s closeness. He felt so happy and safe in Glorfindel’s arms.
“So, it is true then… that you have taken a new toy to your bed. I must say that you got him sooner I thought, CAPTAIN! And how long will it take? That you get bored with that little fool and give him to your fellows?”
Melpomaen flinched when he heard Feredir’s bitter voice near him. He turned, and stared at his nemesis wordlessly. How in Arda could anyone be so malicious? How dare Feredir say such things about Glorfindel? For he knew now that none of it was true. Glorfindel was gentle and loving, and would never hurt anyone in such a way. Melpomaen was suddenly furious. He could handle others’ stupidity, but when someone accused his beloved for such behavior… it was too much. Before he could think, he simply reacted. He struck Feredir across the cheek, hard. Feredir’s head snapped back at the unexpected blow, and a red print started to appear upon his face.
“You are nothing but a coward! A poor excuse for an Elf. How dare you to say such lies?” Melpomaen said with a low voice.
“How sweet! And who is the coward here? I, when I say the truth, or Glorfindel who makes even his pets fight for him!” Feredir sneered, mockingly. He was beyond rational thinking. From the very beginning he had envied Glorfindel, and that envy had turned into uncontrollable hatred. Last night’s humiliation had been his breaking point.
“Do you really want to challenge me, Feredir? I won’t hide behind anyone’s back. You should know that..” Glorfindel said, with a tone, which should have scared any reasonable elf. But, Feredir didn’t listen. Quickly, Feredir grabbed Melpomaen, gripping him tightly. The elda froze as he heard Melpomaen’s pained moan. But what happened next, surprised both Glorfindel and Feredir.
Feredir sank on his knees, wailing loudly. Melpomaen’s quick kick hit him straight in the groin. Glorfindel fell swiftly on Feredir, picking him roughly up.
“That was your last trick here, you son of an orc! Our Lord will banish you because of this. How dare you attack to my betrothed?” The elda growled.
“Come with me, meleth. We will take this plague to Lord Elrond.” He then smiled at Melpomaen, proud of his beloved. Glorfindel thought that he obviously had been completely wrong about Melpomaen’s capacity to defend himself. And even greater pleasure he took from Feredir’s helpless raging.

Imladris’ Lord decided Feredir’s fate just exactly as Glorfindel had suspected he would. The elf was sentenced to sail, and Elrond set a strong escort to accompany him to the Havens. Escaping would be impossible. In Aman, Feredir would always be under Valar’s watching eye.
“I’m grateful to you, Elrond. That nuisance has always caused much trouble, but his recent deeds was beyond anything I could imagine.” Glorfindel sighed, when the guards had taken Feredir away.
“I know. But without evidence I could do nothing. That bastard had always been too careful and sly to get caught. And it should be I, who is grateful. And especially to you, Melpomaen, for your braveness and quick thinking.” Elrond said, smiling at the young elf.
“Melpomaen is really incredible. He bested Imladris’ worst skunk, and he also made me to kneel to him. And he is all mine. We are to be bound. ” Glorfindel smiled gently at the blushed Melpomaen and pulled him closer.
“You are right, and very lucky too, mellon nín (my friend). When you want to celebrate this happy occasion?“
“We haven’t discussed it yet, but I hope that as soon as possible. I hardly can wait to have you mine, Mel nín, also officially.”
“Oh, meleth! I want that too. I want to be yours, in every way I can.” Melpomaen whispered, blushing deeply. He wasn't used to such attention, especially not from Imladris’ Lord himself.
“Don’t be shy, pen-neth (young one). You must really be something extraordinary, since you have succeeded in capturing Glorfindel’s heart. I’m sure that you will be very happy together.” Elrond said softly. His heart warmed when he saw Glorfindel so happy, at last. He was even more delighted looking at Melpomaen’s unabashed adoration and obvious feelings for Glorfindel.
“Thank you, Híren (my Lord).” Melpomaen said shyly.
“I hope that you will bind us, Elrond.” Glorfindel suggested, still holding Mel close.
“But of course. Just tell me when you want to celebrate your union, and everything will be ready. In the meantime … I suggest that you take your soon-to-be-mate, and give him a little pampering. He really has earned it. I will give you a couple days off from your duties, and to Melpomaen as well.”
“Now that is an excellent idea!” Glorfindel snorted, lifted Melpomaen in his arms, and bid Elrond good day.
“What you are doing?” The young elf gasped, when Glorfindel didn’t let him go, but just carried him somewhere. The elda didn’t care about anyone staring or surprised gasps.
“You heard Elrond’s order. And I am going to obey the best of my ability. First, I’m going to pamper you, and then I take you to bed and never let you go.”
