Billy switched on the TV and the first thing he saw was his face. His happy, glowing face. His eyes were shining with joy, the smile on his lips was true and honest showing excitement.

Billy’s eyes saddened. He was not alone. She was with him.

Billy sipped more and more Scotch into him, but realized in the end that getting drunk would not solve his problem, would not make the pain go away. It would only increase it. It would still be burning inside him, causing Billy’s heart to rip apart. What was the point in staying at home, watching him on TV day and night and drink alcohol anyway? Finally he decided to switch the television off. He stood up, threw his jacket over and left his flat.

As he walked down the streets of Glasgow his mind was getting rid of all the unnecessary memories. He was used to etch every event, every meeting into his memory. Now it seemed so useless. There was nothing to remember for without him there was no past, no present no future. No time at all. Billy figured that this was the state of being he had been experiencing in the last few days, weeks, months or even years. A timeless presence of a man filled with grief and envy. Billy cursed himself for not realizing sooner that he was going to lose him if he kept his feelings sealed inside him. Now it was too late.

Billy stopped in the middle of a bridge. He looked down. He climbed over the barrier.

“Wish ye were here, Dommie.”

It was a sting in the chest. He didn’t even notice that she was looking at him with a worried expression on her face. A frightful thought came to him. He looked back, to the left, to the right. No one there.
