Chapter 7.
Erestor watched from behind his desk, when the happy couple finally arrived. He felt his smile somewhat forced, but much to his relief, Glorfindel and Melpomaen didn’t notice it. Very soon, Erestor realized; that they didn’t notice anything else … but each other. They kissed, and whispered lovingly at each other. Glorfindel was obviously reluctant to go and separate from his lover.
Erestor decided finally, that he had had enough. He coughed, and looked, amused at how Glorfindel and Melpomaen started after hearing the noise.
“I think it is best if you take a day off Mel, and go with Glorfindel.” Erestor chuckled at the blushing young scribe.
“I’m sorry Lord Erestor. I should have been…” Melpomaen stuttered, embarrassed, but Erestor waved him to silence.
“Don’t be. There is no reason for that, Mel. Your work has always been excellent, so certainly you have deserve some time off, to spend with your lover.”
The young elf’s smile was dazzling.
“Thank you so much, Lord Erestor.” He whispered.
“Indeed, Erestor. We owe you much. And Mel isn’t my lover, but betrothed. We are to be bound.” Glorfindel said, smiling happily.
“I’m so happy to hear that. You both deserve nothing but happiness.” Erestor said, congratulating them.
They left, as Erestor secretly sighed with relief. As happy as he was for Glor and Mel, seeing their happiness was far too painful. He buried his face into his hands, trying to suppress his tears.
It had been the most painful moment in his entire life, to leave the twins, who still slept peacefully, and to sneak to his own room through empty corridors. His whole being had screamed in protest, but Erestor knew he had to go. The whole night they had loved each other, or just slept in each other’s arms. It was too beautiful to be true. Only one night he had had with them, and now it was over, forever. They didn’t love him as he loved them, and even if they did, Elrond would never accept their love. When Erestor thought of his Lord and friend, he felt a pang of guilt. Now, not only did he have to live with endless longing, but also with the knowledge that he had betrayed Elrond’s trust.
“What kind of elf you are, Erestor? How you could bed your former students, the ones who were entrusted to you?”
Silent tears flowed from Erestor’s eyes, and he didn’t try to hold them back anymore. Because of his sobs Erestor never heard someone coming, until he was suddenly picked up. He started, after finding himself staring straight into Elladan’s grey eyes, which were flaring with anger and pain.
“Why, Erestor? Why did you leave us like that?” The peredhel demanded quietly.
“I… I’m sorry, Elladan. I thought it would be best…” Erestor stuttered, completely confused.
“Is it? Is it really best to hurt us like that? To throw us aside, like last night never happened… even if we gave you everything?” Elladan hissed, and freed his grip like he had burned his hand.
“What… I don’t understand.” Erestor whispered, still completely loss of why Elladan was so angry to him.
“Is it really so hard to understand? We had taken other lovers, only because we thought you wouldn’t want us…. Not in the same way we wanted you. But never were those lovers allowed to take us. That honor was always saved for you. It was like all our dreams were finally coming true, when you came to us. And now… Elrohir is crying his heart out while we talk here, because he thinks that you don’t love us anymore, that we have displeased you someway.”
“What! You cannot mean…but… I thought…I really thought that you wanted only one night with me. That’s why I left. It was the most difficult thing I have ever done.”
Elrestor felt Elladan’s gaze piercing him, as the young Peredhel tried to decide what to believe.
“Elladan… saes! I didn’t want to hurt you, or Elrohir. And if I did, I’m very sorry. I would do anything for two of you.” Erestor pleaded, tears in his eyes. After long consideration, Elladan finally calmed down, and sighed deeply.
“So, what you are going to do now, Erestor? I ask that if you don’t want us, you came and tell it to me and to Elrohir… personally. Then I will try to heal our hearts, if ever I can.” The young peredhel said with a hopeless tone as he turned to leave.
“But I want you! I have wanted you for so long, and grieved when I knew I could never have you.” Erestor cried out, grasping Elladan’s wrist. He couldn’t look at his beloved’s pain any longer.
Elladan looked anxiously Erestor’s face, his heart racing. Was it possible, that Erestor loved them, after all?
“Tell me, Erestor. No games, no hiding. Only the truth. Do you love us, like we love you?” He asked quietly.
Erestor realized that he had no other option but tell the truth, and take the aftermath, whatever it was. He couldn’t bear the thought that his secrecy hurt his beloved twins.
“I love you. Both of you, and nothing would make me happier than to gain you as mine, forever.” Erestor said seriously, his heart pounding. The moment after his confession felt like eternity, but then a happy smile split Elladan’s face.
“You silly, silly elf! How could someone, who calls himself an advisor, to be so blind? Don’t you know that we have loved you since… before it even was appropriate?” He whispered, and kissed Erestor gently. The advisor melted into kiss, and wrapped his arms around Elladan’s neck. But then he remembered something.
“Elrohir! We have to go to him. He still thinks that I… “ Erestor gasped and started to run towards twins’ rooms. Their journey seemed to last the whole eternity, but finally Erestor pulled twins’ door open, and strode quickly inside. When he saw Elrohir on the bed, his heart almost broke at the sight. The younger twin laid there, wailing like a dying animal. Erestor went to the bed, took Elrohir in his arms, pulling him tightly against his chest.
“Elrohir… don’t cry, meleth. I love you, more than anything. Could you ever forgive me my foolishness?” Erestor said, kissing Elrohir’s damp cheek, and then his trembling lips. Elladan came closer, and held them both lovingly, until Elrohir finally settled.
“Why, Erestor? If you love us, why did you leave like that?” He whispered with a hoarse voice.
Erestor started to cry, more hopelessly than ever before in his entire life.
“I’m so sorry! I love you, both of you, more than you know. But I left because I really thought that you wanted only one night with me. And even if you loved me, I know that there is no hope for us, ever. Your ada would never give us his blessing. I’m your former tutor, for Valar’s sake!” Erestor sobbed, and held the twins like a lifeline.
It took a long time before Erestor calmed down and noticed that the twins were trying to tell him something. With what willpower he had left, he finally composed himself, and tried to listen to them. He wondered why the twins smiled at him gently, as they offered him a letter.
“We told everything to ada, the very day we reached our majority. And we also asked him to write this. Read it, Erestor. Maybe then you’ll understand that we are really meant to be.”
Erestor took the letter, and started to read.

“ Dear Erestor,
If this letter ever reaches you, my sons have finally had their heart’s desire. Nothing could make me happier, and I gladly give my blessing to you three.
You are the only one, who understood my sons' unique bond at the very beginning. I also know that you have always held them in your heart. You don’t need to feel guilty of your love because my sons could never have a better mate than you. I, myself, once trusted my very life into your hands, so how could I not do the same where my sons are concerned? I love them dearly, and they deserve the best.
Your friend, always.
Elrond”

Erestor looked the twins, too stunned to even speak.
“Ada left something else in the cover. Look.” Elladan said, and took out a small silvery item. Erestor gasped, when he saw three identical rings resting on Elladan’s palm.
“Is this true? But how?” He tried to ask, but the twins silenced him.
“It is moment of truth, meleth. Do you want us, till the end of Arda?” They asked, seriously, but hope and love glimmering in their beautiful eyes.
Erestor stared at the rings wordlessly, knowing that his life had changed, forever.
“I love you, with all my heart and I want you, till the end of Arda.” Erestor finally said, his voice thick with emotions. He let Elladan to slip the ring in his finger, and then took another one, slipping it to Elrohir. He looked, how the younger twin took his brother’s hand, and completed their union. For a moment they could only stare each other, but then the twins leaned closer, and started to undress their soon- to- be- hervenn (husband). Erestor yielded to them willingly, with all the love he held for them. When he was finally entered, he sobbed violently, but this time his tears flowed because of overwhelming happiness and joy.
