Summary: Glorfindel finds his daughter diary after she has sailed west and reads it to the others.

Glorfindel leaned against the railing of his balcony. He had always had a room with a good view of Rivendell. He had made that one simple request many years ago back when Anira had first arrived here with him. His reason being that he could see what was going on around him at all times. Part of it also was because he wanted to make sure his only daughter was always safe. It hurt him now to know that he had failed at the one task he swore he do. His daughter had been injured because he had failed to keep her safe.
“ You seem distant.” A familiar voice broke into his thoughts and he turned to see Erestor there
“Do you always just walk into rooms uninvited?” He asked his old friend
“I knocked three times” Erestor grinned.” What is on your mind?”
Glorfindel looked away from the other elf and glanced slowly at the scenery around them
“Anira” he finally replied, sighing deeply. “ Today is her birthday”
The two elves merely shared a look, silently offering the other comfort whether they had realized it or not.
“Come” Glorfindel said suddenly as he went inside and picked up the journal from next to his bed.” The others will be waiting.”
Erestor merely gave a slight nod as he turned and walked out of the room with Glorfindel, both were lost in their own thoughts as they went to meet with the others.

Once he was seated, Glorfindel looked around. He noticed Elladan looked less tired then he had the previous times and that was a good sign. Perhaps his outburst the other day had done him some good. He could only keep his feeling hidden for so long before they would erupt. Glorfindel also knew he was doing the exact same thing but this had always been his way.
“ How long has it been since she has left?” Arwen’s gently voice had filled the room
“ Ten months” Elladan replied, falling silent again after having replied. His eyes had taken on a distant look and Glorfindel wonder what thoughts were going though his mind. With a nudge from Erestor he opened the journal and once again read from it

It has been over a year now that I have been together with Elladan. As any relationships it had had it good and bad moments. I would not change anything nor do I have any regrets. I did laugh when he arrived at my chamber door in the morning. He swore he learned his lesson from my birthday last year and had promised that it was just us for the day, he had been right. We started with a nice ride through the countryside. No matter how many times I may see the view form there, nothing can compare to seeing all of Rivendell, it is even better when I can share that view with Elladan. Once we had reached our favorite place, I saw Arwen there. At first, I had thought that it was another surprise party but Arwen swore she had only been there to help, set up the lunch that Elladan had set up. I told her I was willing to accept it this time. As she always does, she merely laughed and left. Though she had not been alone and if I am not mistaken I could have sworn I saw her grin when she looked back over her shoulder. I wonder now if Aragorn knows what he is getting himself into.

We stayed there until late into the night and I had realized that it was the time I saw the view at night. It is even as, or perhaps even more breathtaking at night as it is in daylight. I was admiring the view when I felt Elladan slipping something around my neck. He had not only given me a silver necklace with a white rode pendant attached, he had it made especially just for me. Just knowing it had come form him would have made it special but knowing he had it made and that no one else hade one like it made me love it even more, love him even more. It had been the prefect way to spend the day and the night’s end was just as perfect. By the time we reached my room we were both exhausted. Elladan agreed to stay with me when I asked if he would like to. When we entered the room there was more gifts that waited for me, all wrapped up nicely. Elladan had known they would be there as he had told everyone we would be gone for the day. I hope no one would mind that I had waited until the following morning to open them. I was more tired then I had first realized and the idea of sleeping in Elladan’s arms was too good to pass up or even postpone for a few minutes.

I was not surprised when I woke the next morning to find him already gone. He had told me had had to get an early start. What I had not expected was the tray of food that was waiting for me, or the single white rose. As much as I love the roses he gives me I sometimes wonder if Celebrian will begin to notice that he has been picking them from her garden. I love him, I love my roses I just do not want him to get into trouble just to give me one. I have asked him if he at least has asked his mother for them. The innocent look he had given me was all the reply I needed. As adorable as that look has always made both Elladan and Elrohir, I doubt that it has ever worked for either of them. At least not with the ones who know them well.

“ It has never worked period” Arwen said softly and flashed a smile at her twin brothers.
“ At least we can mange an innocent look” Elrohir replied back before both he and Elladan gave her an identical innocent look to prove his point. Arwen just rolled her eyes at them and looked over to where her parents sat.
“ Thousands of years since your births and yet the three of you still act as if you are elflings with each other” Celebrian said, giving them a soft smile as she had leaned back against Elrond.
Glorfindel sat quietly as he took a sip of wine that had been brought to him. He was being even more quiet then usual and he wondered if it was the reading of Anira’s journal that had him missing his daughter even more or if it was the fact that it was her birthday and he would not be able to see her that was bothering him. He figured it was a bit of both. Sipping his wine once more, he has finished the last of it then opened the journal to continue reading.

It was fun to open al my gifts as I enjoyed breakfast. I love each and every one of the gifts as well. What I had found amusing was Elladan had slipped yet another one from him in with the rest. This time it was a silver bracelet to match the necklace he gave me. A small rose engraved into it with an inscription. I have been wearing both of them since. Along with his gift was a small note saying only that I was to meet him in the garden at midnight. I am sure he knew it would have me wondering all day why he wanted me to meet him there. Erestor has noticed I was distracted and as usual he had to question me about it, I am sure by now he knows the reason for when this happens. He just enjoys questioning me.
I saw Elladan during dinner and he had that grin that he always has when he is up to something. He is also very good at avoiding questions. He really insisted I wait until midnight. He was gone again before I could even think of asking him anything else. Elrohir did not even know what was going on and that had me wondering even more. How was I supposed to do what I needed to do all day when this was the only thing on my mind and I had the feeling that is exactly what the older twin had planned. It would have been nice to have had some time with Elladan after dinner but we both had other duties to take care of. By the time I was done it was just a few hours until I was to meet with Elladan and that gave me enough time to bathe and get ready.

I have walked the path from my chamber to the gardens many times, never had the short walk seems to take so long before. When I saw where Elladan was waiting for me I had noticed he seemed nervous about something though I had no idea what it could be. We sat among the roses for a while and just enjoyed each other’s company. I had no intention of stopping him as he had leaned over and starting kissing along my neck. As he got to my ear he had whispered that he had something to ask me that would change both our lives forever. Of course that had my attention and I waited to see what he wanted to ask. Just a she had reached into his pocket for something, Elrohir had come running up to say that some orcs had attacked close to the borders and they had to leave that very moment, my father was to meet them there. Elladan hesitated just briefly before rushing off with Elrohir.

I watched them leave then had turned to return to my room, hoping that Elladan would be safe as long as everyone else. I fell asleep worrying about them. I do not know when they returned or even when it was that Elladan had entered my room, even my bed. I only knew he was there when I felt him kissing my neck. I turned to face him and was relieved his was unharmed. I wonder if he knows how handsome he looks when he is tired but still managed one of his sweet and charming smiles. It had not even crossed my mind what he had wanted to ask me in the gardens, not until he brought it up. When I told him I was still waiting to hear what his question was he reached over to a small box on my dresser and had me open it. I was focused on the ring that I almost missed his question. I had only one answer for him,

Glorindel never finished the journal entry as he looked up when Elrohir had called for his father. Elrond was on his feet and immediately at Elladan’s side. The old twin had been silent most of the evening and had barely even made a sound as he collapsed.
“ Ada?” The concern in Arwen’s voice was clear to everyone in the room.
“ Not now” Elrond replied as calmly as he could before telling Elrohir to bring Elladan to the healing chambers. Arwen said nothing else as she watched her brother’s and father silently leave the room.
“He is more worried then he tells you” Celebrian told Arwen as she to got up slowly. “It is not easy for him to watch his son fade” she added as she followed the others.

Long after everyone had left, Glorfindel still sat in his place. The journal still open before him as he looked out the window. He never did notice the one elf hidden within the shadows that stood watching him, worried as much about him as every one was about Elladan
