~Chapter Seven: Wicked Changes~
Elrond began to laugh, a relieved laugh; his friend had been saved, they had him back. Celeborn seemed less happy, looking at the quiet body of the Balrog-slayer, “Elrond, only time will tell if he will awake to us…or if he is lost”
Elrond’s laugh of contentment stopped, he looked at the elder lord, “I will stay by his side”
Celeborn smiled knowingly at him, always having known the greater affection the lord held for his dear friend, “Yes Elrond, you do that” He nodded towards the healers and left with them, giving the lord of Rivendell some time alone with the golden haired elf.
Elrond sat down on a chair besides the bed while taking Glorfindel’s hand, “Oh my dear Glorfindel, my golden flower, do not leave this world a second time. I could not bear to lose you…I..I love you. I never had the courage to tell you, I was too afraid of your rejection. I was afraid you would not wish my company any longer, even as a friend…And now, I regret it, I may have discovered it much sooner if I had…If I allowed myself to watch you as I wish, with nothing but love and affection…and an immense desire to be with you, to be yours and you be mine.”
Elrond had not noticed the smile that had appeared on the face of the Balrog-slayer, he had not noticed the eyes of the weak else slowly opening. He had not looked at Glorfindel’s face, but off into the distance, blaming himself for what happened to the one that held his heart. He didn’t look until a throaty moan came from the Balrog-slayer, followed by a whisper, “Do not blame yourself, raven haired angel, I love you too and I should have come to you when still able to, when I was still in control…I did…It made me do horrible things…and I lost control, I…I don’t want to realize the things it made me do, the things he might have done had no one noticed I was not myself.”
The lord of Rivendell looked at him, smiling softly, “You could not help it, the others will realize that too”
Glorfindel shook his head, “I abused some Elrond, I took advantage of people and … I know it caused one of them to follow such a path himself in his inexperience, his confusion”
Elrond softly caressed the cheek of the Balrog-slayer, “I know of whom it is you speak, but Glorfindel, worry not, he has been shown the right ways, he knows his actions now for what they are. Do not blame yourself for something you could not control nor stop.”
Glorfindel sat up slightly, his eyes locked with Elrond’s, “Did you mean what you said? Is your heart true? Elrond, I need to know, do not toy with my heart” At this he was answered by a passionate loving kiss that left no further doubt. His arms wrapped around the lord’s neck as he returned the kiss with the same amount of intimacy.
Orophin hesitated in his words, not sure how to say it, afraid of their reaction: What if they wouldn’t forgive them? He deserved that, he knew, but still he rather see it differently. Erestor saw this and pressed a kiss to his temple, whispering softly, “Just tell them, do not worry so much”
Orophin smiled slightly and nodded before looking to the others, “I am terribly sorry for all I have put you through, especially you, Elrohir…Legolas, I cannot find the words to express how sorry I am for how I behaved. I was blinded by hatred…by illusions created from my own abuse, I didn’t know right from wrong, what I could and could not do, I can understand if you do not accept my apology, it is no less than I deserve, but I hope that you will find it possible within your heart to do so.”
Rumil had watched and listened with tears in his eyes, remembering the past and standing up, forgetting the weakness of his body to move to his brother. Haldir, who had not forgotten, stood up in less than a blink of the eye, supporting his brother immediately, catching him on the moment he’d have fallen, “Rumil, do not do more than your body can handle right now.”
Erestor recognised the moment and rose from Orophin’s lap. The brother smiled and stood up, moving to Rumil and embracing him tightly, a soft whisper flowing through the room, “I’m so sorry”
Rumil wrapped his arms around his older brother, holding him as tears flowed, “I’m so glad you’re back…that you are who you are supposed to be again”
Haldir watched and smiled, accepting Rumil as Orophin passed him into his arms. Rumil leaned against him, murmuring softly, “I’m tired” The answer given to him was being picked up and he heard Haldir excusing themselves so that he could go to sleep. Rumil smiled, his head resting to his brother’s chest.
Haldir smiled as the entered the bedroom him and Rumil shared when he discovered his younger brother was in a deep sleep already. Laying him down in his bed and smiled, pressing a kiss to his forehead, “May your rest be blessed with the wonders you deserve little one” With that, he moved to his own bed and lay down.
Orophin looked at the three lovers, his eyes pleading but his composure showing that he didn’t doubt a rejection of his apology.
Elrohir looked up at the elf he loathed not too long ago and rose to his feet, “I will never forget what you did to me or Legolas, it will take time to forgive you completely…But we can surely work on that”
Orophin dared to smile slightly, “Thank you Elrohir, that is most kind of you”
Legolas looked at Orophin, not sure what to think. He gasped as he was lifted and put on his feet by Elladan who, apparently, had his own opinion about it that he wished to share, “You do not deserve our forgiveness, you treated Elrohir terribly, then you tried to take advantage of Legolas and now you say we should forgive you?!”
Orophin looked down almost immediately, “I never said you should, I asked for your forgiveness, I never said I deserved it”
Elladan opened his mouth to say more but was silenced by Legolas, who moved to stand before Orophin, lifting his head, “You might have done evil things, but the things you did you didn’t do out of the sheer desire to inflict pain, you didn’t know the difference…Therefore, I can forgive you for your actions, as does ‘Dan”
Elladan stared at Legolas, his face red with anger before he turned and left the room.
Legolas felt tears fill eyes and was surprised by a hand on his shoulder, looking up, he saw Orophin smiling at him, “Thank you Legolas, your forgiveness means much to me, I’m sorry to have caused trouble between you and Elladan though…”
Elrohir grinned, “It’s no trouble, ‘Dan’s just … stubborn, he’ll come around and see he was wrong. Now, please excuse us while we go find him.”
Orophin nodded and smiled again as Elrohir and Legolas left the room together in search for the one they loved. The Lothlorien elf turned to the Rivendell councillor and moved to him.
Erestor wrapped his arms around him and smiled, “See? I told you you could do it ‘Phin, you were wonderful” At this Orophin smiled and returned the embrace, “It is thanks to you that I was, you’ve changed me…you’ve made me a better elf”
